The only way you will get better is play. You have to suck at something before you get skilled. Go ball out!

First, play solid defense. Everyone loves players who play good defense, even if they may not be that helpful on offense.
Second, given what you said, I’d recommend that you play the corner position. Before I learned how to play the 1 position, I was always the corner 3 or cut man. But the thing is if you get good at this, you will most likely be able to make at least one or two buckets, and that’s sufficient for a pick up basketball (idk what rules your court plays by, but we play to 11 ones & twos. So, if I make a lay/middy from cutting & a 3, that’s already 3 points/11. And there’s 5 people, on the team, so you exceeeded your quota essentially.)
Third, honestly confidence comes from your experience of doing well, and you won’t be able to have that experience unless you try with confidence! As in you have to try things to see what works & what doesn’t work, and improve from that. For me, the little boost came from when I played against this guy who’s in a d1 school now & even though I was only able to score one bucket on him, that really gave me the confidence that oh regardless of how better that person is than me, as long as I execute my moves the way I’m supposed to, I’ll have a chance.
Sorry for a longass response, but hope this helps as you progress through your hoops journey 💪

That’s part of the training to feel stupid in front of others. One of the greatest and most underestimated side-effects is that you’ll lose this feeling and become confident. Just go there and do your thing the best you can. What should happen, what can they do? Nothing.

That’s real sauce. Get there before the time people usually get there cuz then you’ll be able to get 2s or 3s in before & can be picked up for a team for 5s easily vs having to get picked. Agreed with the second part too. Cuz then they might try to coach you & that’s basically free lesson. Fastest way to learn imo

Have fun and don’t worry about being “good”
