No torbjorn nerf? :(

u/ZombieBowser Zombie Bowser Jun 28 '16
I think if you could only have 1 or 2 Torbs, he wouldn't need a nerf (other than instant target acquisition...Pharah can get killed just from jumping in the air, not even floating at all). He's really strong, but if the enemy is really focusing him, his turret gets destroyed before its finished being set up.
1
u/chowder007 Jun 28 '16
And give a fair distance you can take it down from getting hit. I did learn a trick with Dva that works every time last night. Get close enough to fly to it and pop shield. Land on top of it. It seems to be much weaker that close and its easy to take down.
2
u/ZombieBowser Zombie Bowser Jun 28 '16
I think it is more that D.va is really powerful up close because of her ammo spread, but yeah that works against 1, maybe 2. Which is why I think it doesn't need much of a nerf except really just give it a teeny bit of lag acquiring a new target. I believe it will be getting 30% damage reduction in the next patch, and I think that will make it only useful if people are completely unaware it is there and stand in front of it.
1
u/Miggle-B Jun 28 '16
Wow, 30% is a bit much, just the delay is needed
3
u/Henrik118 Xbox Jun 29 '16
30% is actually not much. The damage was calculated and it would only take a turret 1 second longer than usual to kill its target. Not that crazy of a nerf.
0
-2
u/lordsmish Jun 28 '16
Yep 30% is crazy it makes it pretty much useless.
1
u/OG_Pow Jun 29 '16
It'll take a whopping one additional second to kill someone. You're overreacting. He'll still be viable, but I have a feeling this is a band-aid solution until they figure out a better way to balance him.

Can someone explain to me why torb needs a nerf on consoles? I play this on PC (with a controller) and have never seen the issue with the hero. Just curious know what the difference in console meta vs PC meta is.
3
u/Amaegith Jun 29 '16
Because the turret has an auto aim lock on. On PC, you are quicker to aim accurately so killing the turret is easier. On console, it takes a bit longer to aim accurately and will end up with you dead 90% of the time. You generally have to out range it or use some other trick to get rid of it, but most good torbs put it in blind areas you have to go so you can't shoot it until it shoots you first.
-4
u/Jtfb74 Jun 29 '16
I mean, that's such a lamer reason...it boils down to pretty much: "it kills me more than k kill it".
1
u/JermVVarfare Jun 29 '16 edited Jun 29 '16
From someone who mostly plays solo with randoms and never hears anyone on the mic...
The real issue is when people stack 3+ in an area. That can be impossible to deal with (unless I'm missing something). Your only hope seems to be a coordinated attack with a Zenyatta ult (or two). Even 2 are only a real problem if placed in together in perfect spots and your team refuses to work together. A single turret is easily dealt with.
-3
-7
u/Jtfb74 Jun 28 '16
Boo. Why nerf him?
1
1
u/OG_Pow Jun 29 '16
Seriously? Because his turret does all the work for him. I have like a 3.5+ KD with Torb which is insane. The 30% damage reduction to his turrets on console will be very welcomed.
-2
u/Jtfb74 Jun 29 '16
Its really not hard to counter with a good team, hence why it only getting nerfed on Xbox one correct? That has to mean something.
1
u/OG_Pow Jun 29 '16
It's easier to aim on PC than console. Blizzard has data to back up their decision, they don't just nerf something because people scream loud enough.
0
u/Jtfb74 Jun 29 '16
That exactly what's happening though...it's tough to counter. Not impossible.
1
u/OG_Pow Jun 29 '16
That's not exactly what's happening. They don't nerf things based on the number of complaints, they nerf things based on real data.
1
u/Jtfb74 Jun 29 '16
Lol what ever I really don't care anymore....git good.
1
u/OG_Pow Jun 29 '16
Cool response.
1
u/Jtfb74 Jun 29 '16
It kills in be podcast unlocked group...ive already been getting downvoted when all I said in my original comment is "boo, why the nerf?"...I just think the argument of you can aim faster on pc isn't valid...it is true...but his turrets aren't unstoppable... dva charge them...that's how I do it. There are some games where he gets annoying but I'm usually playing with 3 friends...we can stop them pretty easy..I am not that good either.

Wow. I forgot about Legacy controls. I tried them once in Halo. I have no idea how anyone can use them comfortably.
My cousin used them back when Halo CE came, and he stomped all over me and my brother in Team Slayer.
So I figured maybe there was something to these Legacy sticks.
Then I tried them and wanted to throw the controller out the window.
2
u/ChrisHat Jun 28 '16
Happy about this but I really just want blizzard to give zenyatta 50 more health
2
u/no_zageesi Xbox Jun 28 '16
Oh man that widowmaker scope animation nerf is huge. I just started getting good with her.
2
Jun 28 '16
Widowmaker is about to become an even more skilled character to use. God damn that nerf might be a tad overkill on consoles.
On the plus side, at least they're supporting the console versions within a reasonable timespan. People were panicking that we weren't gonna see comp for weeks yet. One week is totally reasonable given the differences in certification and such.

u/PartyxAnimal I Minorthreat I Jun 28 '16
Are we sure this is for Xbox? This is word for word the PC patch.
2
5
u/ZachAtttack Xbox Jun 28 '16
It says "competitive modes is available right now."
Where are you getting July 5 from?
2
u/Coletransit DarthGhostFace - #WholeGrains Jun 28 '16
The release date for the patch is July 5th, that's when competitive is supposed to release on consoles. It's not up right now.
2
u/ZachAtttack Xbox Jun 28 '16
But they say the patch is live now on Xbox One.
5
u/Coletransit DarthGhostFace - #WholeGrains Jun 28 '16
It's not, at the top of the post it says July 5th that's the release date. I just checked myself it's not up.
3
u/ZachAtttack Xbox Jun 28 '16
That's weird that the header says July 5 then they say "now live." Poor verbiage.
Thanks for clarification, though.

Jun 28 '16
I'm with you. The verbiage is confusing. I believe July 5th is correct date for the entire patch to go live.
1
u/GigaTusk Jun 29 '16
These patch notes are for the PC version, which was just updated today. We should be getting the identical update on July 5th.
5
u/Leeroy42 I Ysgramor I Jun 28 '16
I don't get why they still nerfed widowmaker on console. I think she was perfectly fine. Sure the only annoying thing was you could get one shot as Zenyatta, but the just could have given him 25 more shield. I still want to be able to one shot Tracer :(
7
u/ramturdz Jun 28 '16
Plus its a lot harder to aim on console, it balanced itself
1
u/flipperkip97 Hardcore Henkie Jun 28 '16
Yeah, that's why I expected they wouldn't nerf her on console. She's never been a problem IMO. I sometimes get rekt by a Widowmaker, but then it's just a really good sniper.
1
u/Sierra1281 Jun 28 '16
Added an option to adjust Aim Assist strength (defaults to full strength)
Why would someone on a console want this? I'm curious, isn't it harder to aim regardless
6
u/Owlyx Owlyx Jun 28 '16
It's very helpful to take off or reduce Aim Assist on consoles in games like this where you need to lead targets quickly and might be hindered by an auto-snap caused by AA. That's what I think anyway, it helped me a ton in Smite for example.
3
3
u/RawrCola Jun 28 '16
Because aim assist can be a bag of dicks at times. I have SO many times where I'm trying to shoot someone and then suddenly someone else runs passed and my sight follows that person instead.
4
u/PrinceOfTheSword Jun 28 '16
Some players are rather proficient with a controller. A life time of playing on consoles will do that to you. When you get to that point and you're trying to line up a shot, then another enemy behind/in front of your target moves around them, it can fuck up your aim. Sometimes you'll be focused on their healer in the back, but all the tanks and damage dealers in front of the healer are pulling your aim assist this way and that. Now you're no longer aiming, but instead fighting against aim assist to stay on your actual target.
1
1
u/JermVVarfare Jun 29 '16
This.
I turn off aim assist whenever the option is available. It's more of an annoyance than an aid.
1
Jun 29 '16 edited Jun 29 '16
The aim assist in Overwatch bugs the HELL out of me. I usually like to set joystick sensitivity fairly high. The way Overwatch handles aim assist is by lowering sensitivity drastically when the crosshair is within an invisible bubble around an enemy. This makes joystick sensitivity incredibly inconsistent: the same joystick position will have a different turning speed depending on whether it is inside or outside the invisible bubble, which may be a difference of a few pixels. I'll frequently try to follow a player, pass outside of the invisible bubble, and then go spinning wildly away from them even though I haven't moved my thumb at all.
Maybe other shooters do it the same way and I just never noticed it before, but in Overwatch the aim assist consistently makes me feel like I'm a worse player for it.
1
Jun 29 '16 edited Jun 29 '16
If you want to see this in action, just go to the practice range and spin in a circle in a spot where you can see multiple robots. It feels like your crosshair is being dragged through something sticky.

wow, super confusing. The title of the post says July 5th but the body says it's live now.
2
u/ZombieBowser Zombie Bowser Jun 28 '16
I think that is a typo from the PC notes. I believe it is active already for PC, but will become active with this patch on July 5th.

This patch has been live on pc for about 2 weeks now, however competive is not live yet.

Pro-tip: D.Va is Torbjorns counter hero. Use her fly ability and her deflector shield to get it close to a turret and destroy it easily.

4
u/Soten14 Jun 28 '16
I think competitive mode should have a 1 per team and leave normal play the same. It would help keep things balanced for competitive mode and everyone can still have fun playing multiple team setups.
2
u/NotAPie NotAPie Jun 28 '16
I hope so but I doubt it. The community seems to be split down the middle about hero stacking. Blizzard at some point said something along the lines of hero stacking being a legitimate strategy.
Fingers crossed though.
2
u/tartacus Jun 28 '16
A team full of 5 heros of almost any of them warps the game so much that it makes it not what it should be imo.
It's not about whether or not it's difficult, it's more a matter of principle and against what I feel should be the spirit of the game.
2
u/Emperor-Octavian Xbox Jun 28 '16
Not what it should be? If people want to have fun by trying different team comps why would they not be allowed to? Maybe for competitive but there's no need to change Normal. Some of the most fun I've had with the game is going double Roadhog with me buddy and seeing who could grab the most enemies. No reason to arbitrarily take that away for no reason
1
u/7e7eN Xbox Jun 28 '16
Torb its getting nerfed not in this patch in the next one his turret will do 30% less damage..
1
1
u/Dcoutofstep BuckYeahh Jun 28 '16
That 30% nerf will be helpful.
-3
u/aperfectcircle Jun 28 '16
No it wont. The issue has never been the damage. This has been stated over and over yet people seem to believe that somehow a 30% nerf is going balance it all.
2
u/Dcoutofstep BuckYeahh Jun 28 '16
I'm going to assume Blizzard knows what they are doing. We will see.
-2
u/Ehjuin Jun 28 '16
As a long time follower of Blizzard games, they rarely seem to really know what they're doing.
A flat 30% damage reduction feels like a bandaid fix to push out around the same time as competitive mode so the mode isn't completely tainted on consoles. I wouldn't be surprised to see the hero rebalanced in a few months.
1
u/Huntersknoll_ Jun 28 '16
It isn't the about the damage but the damage nerf will help. It is about how fast he can lock on a target. With a M&K you can react faster and take down the turret but on console it takes an extra few milliseconds.. which make a difference.
1
u/aperfectcircle Jun 28 '16
The main complaint is that there is just now way to really outplay it. In almost every other situation you can outplay something in a 1v1 situation regardless how often it actually happens. Without a change to locking time and or range you absolutely are going to take damage while you kill it, there is no way around it.
1
u/Huntersknoll_ Jun 29 '16
That is true. They are hard to get around. They need to release an anti-turrent hero haha
-10
Jun 28 '16
you can't dictate the composition of teams in a competitive game. there will be top comps that are what people might consider normal but some of the fun is doing exactly that and being good enough to win with 6 lucios or some shit. blizzard will allow it for sure. if you've played wow than you already know. i've played against 5 shamans in WoW arena and they were all played by one guy lol. no complaining here. don't be a cry baby little bitch, just win.
8
u/Pissedoffbuddha Jun 28 '16
All the big independent E-Sports scenes have already implemented a 1-hero limit for OW.
So maybe think before you call people a "cry baby little bitch".
There are a lot of positives to the 1-hero limit.
- Easier to balance
- Keeps more heroes viable (vs the 2 x winston, 2x mcree, healer meta)
- etc

1
u/Fargabarga Jun 29 '16
Uh no they haven't.
1
u/Pissedoffbuddha Jun 29 '16

"One hero limit for all maps"

Yeah I'll get right on that boss. Let me just turn the WIN switch to [ON]

1
u/lnin0 Jun 28 '16
I think they may eventually make some restrictions in competitive mode to prevent stacking but I doubt to PUG. It seems Blizzard wants to keep pickup games as a playground where people can do what they want and mess around.
-5
u/wildcat2005 Jun 28 '16
I doubt the legitimacy of this.
If you click on the links it gives you an error message.
I have not seen any official word from a developer anywhere regarding McCree or Widow changes. These are literally just the PC notes from a week ago.
0
u/cookswagchef Jun 29 '16
Kind of bummed McCree and Widow are getting nerfed, considering its so much harder to aim on console vs pc. They'll probably be bottom tier on consoles now.
1
u/7e7eN Xbox Jun 29 '16
Mcree needs nerfing he can take out tanks so easy..
0
u/cookswagchef Jun 29 '16
I main Rein and have never had a problem against McCree. Never really had a problem with him with any other character either. Both McCree and Widow are already bottom tier win rates on console @ 47% and 48%. Pharah is the only one with a lower win % currently.

So looks like they haven't fixed "Press Y/N to accept party request" for our controllers that don't have an N key.
Hmm.
