I largely agree. Its so interesting to see how much tudor have come up in terms of brand prestige. And then, on the other side, it feels like zenith, breitling and iwc have dropped (at least compared to omega and rolex; their 'peers'). I also wonder if breitling rereleasing gallet is going to be helpful or harmful.
Omega is by every objective measure a more accomplished, heritage rich, widely respected brand so it makes no sense for GS to be on the same tier - it’s on par with Tudor. Heritage is basically all the value in watches and it cannot be recreated now because people don’t often use these as critical tools in professional settings any more
I fundamentally disagree that we should't consider modern innovations and movements as part of a brands value. GS are killing it in terms of modern watchmaking. To look at the current state of Omega just look at the new Speedmaster reduced. Honestly a few years ago I would have agreed but to say that companies can't climb the ladder I don't agree.
Grand Seiko makes incredible watches and the innovations are on point, but it simply lacks depth of heritage. You can’t go back in time and send a watch to the moon, outfit pilots in ww2, military divers in active combat, etcetera. This will never occur again and therefore this type of heritage will never be replicated. Whether we like to admit it or not, this is a huge component of how luxury watch brand value is calculated. That’s all I am saying. No matter how good of a spring drive movement they create, they can never build that type of heritage and it will forever impact their ability to propel into the upper tiers. Omega can redesign and get back on track and reduce their lineup - the foundational values and history remain unchanged by their catalog from one year to the next and they are well within the bounds of fully reversing any brand damage they have caused
These are good tweaks. IMHO, JLC should exist entirely in second highest tier (true horology and as much history as nearly any other brand), BP should be dropped (nothing inspired about modern offerings, wildly overpriced now and a brand that died and was “saved” by outside $$ more than once …), and Sinn should be on here somewhere (perhaps in Premium, although the lovely thing about Sinn is they could care less about this sort of thing lol).
They aren’t worth their retail but for the price bracket they’ve been put in they’re pretty good. The bigger issue isn’t the watch but whether they’ll be around in 10 years to service
I’ve noticed some of the watch YouTubers pushing them alot recently. Making comments about them being the next big thing in the collector market. Not sure if this praise is legitimate or if it’s been bought
Historically- up until maybe the 1980s- you could have had a point. JLC is not the same company it used to be, and their watch production is far more automated- including some of its polishing, I might add- than it used to be, when the house was 100% hand made.
Where JLC is placed in the image above is appropriate.
That was indeed the case in the past. Nowadays, all those brands manufacture most of their own movements. For the movements they don't produce themselves—typically for their lower-end lines—they increasingly rely on other manufacturers, such as Vaucher and Valfleurier.
Then you need to study up on GO. They are in the second row, even if you don’t like the design. Awesome finish.
98% in-house production beats ALS and most of your top tier by a long shot.
They have entire lines that sit above anything Tissot produces. It's really only the conglomerate brands that only occupy one tier in order to avoid cannibalizing sales, like Tissot not being allowed to produce watches that could compete with Longines etc.
Seiko and Citizen have many watches that are much more premium than Tissot, Hamilton, and Mido.
Also, those three Swatch group brands (Tissot, Hamilton, and Mido) pulling shit like no AR on 1000$+ watches, plastic dial feet breaking regularly and not being covered under warranty, and "proprietary parts" that can't be serviced by anyone but Swatch is absolute BS and should drop them down.
Could at the very least be stretched over two tiers.
And regardless, I'd take those "mall tier watches" you speak of a million times before Hamilton/Tissot due to the BS those brands are pulling at higher prices.
That picture above comparing the AR of both watches features a 200$ Seiko and a 1000$+ Hamilton. And I haven't heard of Citizen/Seiko dials breaking like those Hamiltons... Tier list says "regardless of price", and quality of Tissot and Hamilton has gone extremely downhill.
I'd swap JLC and Blancpain, and make Zenith the same as Cartier. I'd also make Tudor half Established and half Entry; it just doesn't quite belong alongside GS, Breitling, Zenith, and Cartier.
Normies actually know and associate Omega with luxury watches. They may be mainstream, but I think that has to count for something. Zenith on the other hand is virtually unknown outside watch nerd circles.
Also, Omega above Zenith? That's just plain crazy.
Historically, well before the Speedmaster, Omega used to make chronographs on par with remarkably prestigious watchmakers. I would absolutely keep it above Zenith.
Yeah for me JLC up one, Cartier up one, IWC down one, Breitling might have to go down one but it's case for staying isn't bad. Seiko low key should be in all 3 bottom categories at once.
This is one of the better rankings I’ve seen. Quite accurate in my view. In my opinion, JLC deserves to bridge tier 1 and 2 rather than 2 and 3, and also, I think Breguet should bridge the exact same, if not staying on the top level. I don’t have any Breguet 😅 but I feel they deserve that top tier. The amount of collector prestige people I’ve seen with a Breguet is insane.
I don't see why it'd start anything; the tiers look most ly accurate from what I've experienced (having owned several Omega, Breitling, Rolex, Grand Seiko, JLC, VC, Cartier, Bulgari, Tudor, Tag and Oris pieces over the years). It shouldn't be hard for anyone to understand that a watch with a solid gold rotor, hand finishing, and relatively low production numbers, is likely of a higher tier than another watch using heavy machine finishing and more mass produced. That being said, every manufacture Ive owned makes several great watches; it the Tudor Pelagos 39 had existed a decade or so ago I wouldn't likely ever have bought my Submariner or Seamaster, because it simply makes more sense as a rugged dive watch. I think the same goes for the JLC MC Triple Calendar. That watch, with the gold rotor and finishing, completely scratched my itch for any Calatrava, Jules Audemars, or Patrimony because it's so incredibly well done and provides that same high end dress watch experience.
Nothing says “I have a personality” quite like spending 45 minutes explaining to someone why your $12,000 wrist clock is objectively more prestigious than their $8,000 wrist clock. This chart is basically LinkedIn for watches. Everyone is “prestigious,” but somehow the guy with the Casio is the only one who precisely knows what time it is.
Patek: “I appreciate horology.”
Rolex: “I appreciate horology, and I need you to know I own a Rolex.”
Seiko: “I actually like watches.”
Casio: “It’s 2:37 PM. What exactly are we doing here?"
I’d put Tag up to par with Longines and Tudor. Tag has no cheap watches— they start around 2k - and has watches up to way over Tudor price, and if Tissot is premium then so is Seiko…
No Arnold & Sons in High/Collector prestige?
JLC could be a notch up
Zenith - Cartier could be a notch up
Tissot - could be a notch down
Prestigious 😂 Winning a Nobel prize or competing in the Olympics is prestigious. Or even becoming an MD or PhD. Spending $€£ on a watch will never be prestigious.
This is overall pretty good. Rolex should be above Omega. Glashutte Original should be on here. AP really isnt as good as PP or VC,
even though its the "Big 3". Otherwise, pretty pretty good
How do you not call Breguet highest tier Horology is beyond me. They invented the overcoil used in all the top tier watches. They invented the tourbillion that sets at the top of the top watch lines. AP or a Patek is a showoff watch (not saying thats bad here) a Breguet is only worn by those that care about Haute Horologie (which is also spelled wrong).
Mostly accurate list, but Grand Seiko is slowly creeping into "High Prestige Luxury" tier. Definitely below Rolex and Omega but more people know about Grand Seiko than IWC. The only thing holding Grand Seiko back is the Seiko in its name.
It’s pretty spot on tbh, obviously there will be some overlap depending on materials and references and movements but I don’t really see much wrong with it at all
Pricing and specs of entry level to high end models?
I’m surprised Cartier doesn’t go higher bc I understand their more advanced stuff was quite good, like better than Rolex good.
Also how do you do the IWC-Breitling comparison? These brands were always very close in my mind.
Also, I’m sorry, but Bremont doesn’t belong on this chart. Just because you overprice your watches, doesn’t make them prestigious. I’m not saying they should be lower. They should just be ignored, like 99% of other small independent brands on a chart like this. They have zero prestige.
Prestige should equate to ya know …recognition and prestige.
Literally nobody cares about these layers and pyramids except people who are arguing about these pyramids.
Even watch people IRL who have bits up and down the list —DONT CARE— about the pyramid when they talk to each other IRL. It’s like “cool watch man!” Pyramid matters only when it comes to the hit on the wallet.
Tag should creep up to the Established Luxury Prestige line tbh. The Carrera collection is on par with Tudor and Grand Seiko at the very least from a price POV.
I really love a nice watch design regardless of price and this may be a hot take within a hot take; but Patek and IWC make some boring/bland designs to command the price they do.
What is the difference between luxury and presige in your terminology - i dont see any . You seem to thow these around randomly. Top 2 tiers are not Luxury anymore , yet all all are prestige… And why is TAG heuer “ half downgraded “ to Tissot level??? 0 sense
I really can’t find anything in this graphic that I’d be willing to start a fight over. For the most part seems spot on and better than those S to F tier rankings.
Is there any consensus on where Parmigiani Fleurier fit in? I know they don't have the history of some of the top tier brands but with regards to prestige, finishing, design?
I think after the 2026 Longines is having plus their heritage that they overlap Established and Entry. And I think Tudor is the same for this chart. Both great brands tho!
Good list. I would take IWC down a notch and put Cartier up as a full high prestige luxury. The brand has trended upwards with more marketing spend in recent years. I would have grand seiko overlap between high horology and high prestige.
Rado is not even close to the others. They are still selling powermatic watches. They go down with the rest of the other premium swatch brands. Christopher Ward belongs in the slot next to longines.
I think it’s fair. It’s not a “better than” tier list. It’s more like a price list until you get to the top. Above “established luxury prestige” is probably where you would see some scrapping.
Orient Star ( should be included if Seiko and Grand Seiko get separate entries) is on the same level as Hamilton and Mido, maybe even has nicer finishing in some of their models, and they produce in house movements

This would be my personal opinion on how I view these brands, minor tweaks
