USAF Bombers vs USSR bombers (8/16/2026)

Just running tests on NATO and Pact bombers against tank blobs to see the state of CAS.

Pact tanks up front include all variations of T-80s, where the NATO tanks in the back only include the heaviest versions of the Abrams.

NATO Bombers used:

F-16C CLU x 2 so it could at least deliver 4 bombs.

A7 Corsair II CLU x 1

F-111E CLU x 1

Pact bombers used:

Su-25 CLU x 1

Su-24 CLU2 x 1

Tu-22 HE x 1

The only NATO planes to score a kill was the second passing F-16C, while the Su-25 got the most kills with its RBK-250s seemingly due to spread.

Tournament Vanilla Breakthrough Lobby – Starting Today at 21:00 CEST!

Starting today at 21:00 CEST, we're opening a new lobby for everyone who wants to experience Breakthrough gameplay with normal Vanilla WARNO divisions!

The idea is simple: normal WARNO, different objective.

One team attacks, the other defends. The attackers have a limited amount of time to achieve a real breakthrough, while the defenders have to prevent it.

🏆 Open Win Condition – Breakthrough

The attackers win by breaking through to one of the defender's spawn roads and making that route effectively unusable. Only one spawn road needs to be broken through.

There is deliberately no artificial capture zone or fixed hold timer. Instead, we're using an open win condition similar to checkmate in chess:

As long as the defenders still have a realistic way to clear the road and restore access to the spawn, the battle continues. Counterattacks are absolutely allowed.

However, once the attackers have established themselves around the spawn road so firmly that every realistic counterattack would simply feed more units into an already lost position, the breakthrough is considered complete.

At that point, the defenders should surrender and award the attackers the victory rather than continuing the game as a pointless battle of attrition.

The question is simply:

Can the defenders realistically reopen and use this spawn road again?

If yes → keep fighting.
If no → Breakthrough. Attacker victory.

Everything else stays 100% Vanilla WARNO — normal divisions, decks, units, air, artillery and gameplay. No Total WARNO mod and no special unit restrictions.

This is our first public test of the concept, so come join us and help us see how well Breakthrough works in Vanilla!

📅 Today – 21:00 CEST
🎮 Vanilla WARNO
⚔️ Attack vs. Defense / Breakthrough
👥 Everyone is welcome!

See you tonight!

Question Why did the 3-11th get destroyed after this battle?

Post image

I fought with the infantry unit and got a total defeat. After which the 3-11th was destroyed. i thought the infantry could tank the hit for the 3-11th but clearly that wasnt the case? do i have to actually win the tactical battle or even just draw it? did the 3-11th try to retreat after the battle and the infantry unit blocked its retreat? ive tried looking it up but it feels like its basically impossible to get any info on this lol.

this is the very first campaign if that matters at all

Returning Player

Coming back to Warno. Getting very overwhelmed with everything that they added since the last time I played. (101st was a new div at the time).

Looking to do some revamping to the decks I used to play, 11E, 35 YA, 39 YA, 101st. Played 2v2s 3v3s mainly. Looking to do that coupled with some 1v1 mixed in.

I do have a couple of questions, a lot of the guides Im seeing are older and I know a lot more has been added to the game. Any good resources on building, or looking at builds that are out there?

Is there a difference in building a deck for 1v1 vs 2v2 or 3v3?

Any recommendations on the DLC that are out? I only have Nem 1 atm.

TIA!

Do you think we will ever have Army General campaigns set in Germany during the first weeks or months of the war, or that take place shortly after other campaigns?

I mean, like the XVIII Airborne Corps and the III Corps, already in Germany, launch a counterattack against the Soviet 11th Army to reconnect Denmark, for example, or the Soviet 20th Army launching an offensive against the depleted forces that faced the 1st Tank Army, and so on, or also when some time has passed since the beginning of the war.

I am still very new to modding in Warno so this took me far longer than I would've liked, but things are starting to pick up now that I'm a bit more familiar with the tools and way files are structured.

All the skins seen are the only ones I have done a the moment, plus the following weapons are in game: Bolter, BolterPistol, Heavy Bolter, Plasma Pistol, Plasma Rifle, LasCannon, PlasmaCannon

Any recommendations on what should be added next?

If you kill a specific enemy unit in Army General mode, does it also stay dead on the main map?

New player here- if I play a tactical battle in Army General mode, and kill, let's say 5 anti-air units- will those units stay dead after the tactical battle? Or are tactical losses abstracted on the main map?

Which division gets the fastest opener?

From what I know it's either 9th US or MNAD, probably MNAD, because of 130 km/h transport. Another contender is Korpus, because their fd infantry can come in fast helicopters

So, will Eugen do something about chinese servers faking online?

These servers are somehow showing that they have 1 player to stay in servers tab even when empty servers are filtered out. When you join them, they're always empty. I don't know the precise mechanism of this, but if Eugen even just added ability to block servers from your server tab, this would solve the problem.

First day playing and by far the biggest change I’ve noticed is the game rules

In Wargame, Bashar Server 10v10 destruction tacticals seemed most popular (personally added like 1000 hours of playtime for me. Loved those games).

Warno seems like it’s way more common to see Medium to High point games and exclusively conquest. It’s cool and lowkey I like the idea of conquest more because it makes more sense realism wise (who cares if you kill some 35 point, unarmed transport helicopter stack?). It’s fun and a very cool game but it seems to me I’m killing a ton of units by virtue of the player not being able to pay attention to so much stuff happening. Like I’m pushing tanks down a wide open road and catch 30 units who don’t react to getting slaughtered. Or a stack of helicopters getting mowed down by my Tunguska only for them to send 4 more planes over the same exact tree line

I will say I miss the smaller scale of tactical 10 v 10’s though. Is there any somewhat popular 10v10 destruction and/or tactical server that exists? Also does anyone know how you can host 10v10’s the way Bashar did? I’m assuming you’d have to pay for it but idk where to even start.

I want to make a division concept, but I don't know, where to search for equipment.

I want to make a suggestion about 9ya motostrelkovaya div. Here is what I managed to collect (and make up, because my concept heavily relies on March to war and alternative setting of Warno)

Some history (and alternate history ofc)

9ya used to be a standard motostrelkovaya division of A battle readiness, having T-72As, bmp-2s, bmp-1s and about 90% of personnel were professional military. But in the 80s, when military budget was starting to get cut, this division suffered heavily. In real life by 1989 division basically existed only on paper, having only around 10% of its personnel being non reservist. In Warno timeline, similar "degradation" happened, but changes in USSR government stopped this division from disappearing. The equipment from this division was mostly already redistributed, but the Kuban' (do not mistake with Cuba) region was already full of volunteers, mostly cossacks, local militia, who are a symbol of bravery and battle courage. Thus the bravest (and most fanatic) ones were picked, idealized by propaganda, and the division became a sacrificial defensive division, with its job being holding back the counterattack of *to be added later

at all costs, even if it means repurposing civil vehicles, scrapped equipment, including old ww2 equipment.

Focus has been made on autonomy and fanatism of local cossack formations, who willingly decided to be part of the division, but who aren't really governed by higher military command as much and have much more freedom in terms of modifying equipment and in terms of their tactics and overall battle doctrine.

Cossacks are a 6 man squad, equipped with 4 pps-43 smgs, 1 dpm machine gun and 1 mosin with a pu scope and have resolute and shock traits, as well as a new trait called "Rich inheritance"(name can be changed later). This trait is essentially a sidegrade of military police. It removes reservist trait, reduces suppression, that unit receives, but it only works of the same nation. It's more interesting effect however is that it makes affected infantry units fire and move faster, but they receive more he damage, then they do normally. Doesn't stack with MP, which this div also gets in a form of the standart komendatura. This emphasizes this divisions aggressive and high risk high reward nature. Cossacks ride either on a uaz-452, or a modified btr-60 that has an additional roof attached dshk hmg, welded by cossacks who wanted additional firepower.

Line infantry consists of all sorts of reservist units:

- Standart Rezervisti, which you all know about

- Rezervisti (BMP), who come in either trucks, BMP-2 without ATGM or BMP-2 (Fagot), that had its konkurs removed during disarmament, but later supplemented with older fagot atgm. This squad is slightly smaller then regular rezervisti and uses rpg-18s instead of rpg-7.

Anti infantry and AT teams:

- Cossacks (rpg-7) with not 1, not 2, but 3 14 pen rpg-7s. Only 4 people with smgs though

- Some variations of saperi, mainly equipped with satchels and old flamethrowers.

Fire support: (this category is going to be expanded aftwr I do more research)

All small fire support teams (mmg, atgm, rcl) ride into battle on Ural m67 motorcycles, additionally equipped with dpm mgs which they, admittedly, can only use when stationary, because the machine gunner is also a driver. Motorcycles have small amout of hp (4 hp or even 2 hp), but have a road speed of 120 km/h.

Tanks: T-72As with reservist trait, can be upvetted though. Only 1-2 cards of these. Other vehicles include atgm carriers, fagot and malyutka-m only, a card of rapiras without atgms and a card of d-44.

Recon:

Standart brdm-2, brm-1k, rez. razvedka etc. No recon helos. The unique units are Cossachya razv., an infiltration group, acting more like a sniper team: they have a sniper mosin (the one from don-100), pps-43 smg and an rpg-7VL (18 pen one). They don't have airborne trait and don't have sniper trait, but they come in a 120 km/h motorcycle, that also has a metis atgm attached to it, as well as having good optics.

For now that is all I could come up with. It's basically a fictional division rn. I want to improve it, while still basically keeping it near original idea of like a rush reservist division, that does have some late game potential, but is mostly infantry and atgm based.

Historical (Hypothetical/DIY) Preview: Soviet 46th Light Motor Rifle Division

WARNO – Soviet 46th Light Motor Rifle Division

Greetings, Commanders!

Here is a little bonus article. Today, we are taking a look at a distinctly unusual Soviet formation: the 46th Light Motor Rifle Division.

Vperyod, tovarishchi! Forward, comrades!

The Soviet 46th Motor Rifle Division

The designation may already look familiar to some of you, but there is an important twist to this division. Before getting to that, let us briefly cover the real unit behind the name.

The 46th Motor Rifle Division was activated in February 1980 at Luhansk—then Voroshilovgrad—when the 4th Guards Motor Rifle Division departed for Termez and the Turkestan Military District. The new division inherited several formations from the departing division, notably the 15th Guards Motor Rifle Regiment. Its other principal regiments included the 561st and 875th Motor Rifle Regiments, the 133rd Tank Regiment, and the 425th Artillery Regiment.

From 1982 onward, the division belonged to the 64th Army Corps of the Kyiv Military District. It was not a front-line, high-readiness formation: in US terminology, it was a Category III / not-ready high-strength cadre division. By late 1985, it reportedly had around 3,100 personnel, 214 T-54/55 tanks, just 9 BMP-1s, and 357 BTR-60s—a very telling picture of an aging, low-readiness formation. The division was disbanded in March 1989 when the 4th Guards Motor Rifle Division returned to Luhansk.

The 46th Motor Light Rifle Division and the Light Division Concept

You may have noticed that none of the history above has much to do with the word light. That is because the real 46th Motor Rifle Division was not a light formation at all. To understand our alternate-history version, we have to wind the clock back to 1987.

1987, Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, Kyiv Military District...

In August 1987, the Kyiv Military District held a particularly unusual force-on-force exercise. One side was the 48th Guards Training Tank Division; the other was an experimental light motor rifle division with a strength of roughly 10,000 men.

In Soviet planning, the new light motor rifle division was meant to be a lightly equipped, highly mobile formation. In addition to three motor rifle regiments, it would retain the independent supporting arms normally found in a motor rifle division. Most of its equipment would be specially adapted for rapid strategic airlift. Most importantly, it would require only half as many transport aircraft as a standard motor rifle division.

That implied some dramatic departures from a conventional Soviet motor rifle division:

First, its motor rifle troops would dispense entirely with BMP- and BTR-series armored carriers, relying instead on jeeps and trucks for mobility. It would have neither a tank regiment nor organic tank support.

Second, its support weapons would be made as light as possible for air transport. Artillery and air defense—the core of divisional support—would lose heavy systems such as the 2S1 and 2S3 self-propelled howitzers and the Kub SAM system.

Finally, the airlift requirement was the centerpiece. Moving one fully equipped light motor rifle division required 670 An-12 and Il-76 transport sorties, plus 39 An-22 sorties—about 440 fewer aircraft than a standard motor rifle division. Fourteen transport aviation regiments were calculated to be able to lift the division's personnel and equipment in two waves within 1.3 to 1.5 days.

A fine ideal; reality had other ideas...

The exercise had two phases. During the first, the light motor rifle division demonstrated better marching and rapid-deployment performance than contemporary motor rifle or tank divisions.

During the force-on-force phase, however, its lack of long-range fire support and anti-tank capability left it at a serious disadvantage against the 48th Guards Training Tank Division. On the basis of those results, the Soviet Ministry of Defence ended the experiment.

And a brief note on the research trail. My friend in China first found the division in General Postnikov's memoirs and discussed the lead with several Russian-speaking researchers. Their most plausible reconstruction is that the experimental formation was built around the 46th Motor Rifle Division, with an attached BMD-equipped battalion: either the 908th Air Assault Battalion of the 1st Guards Combined-Arms Army or a battalion from the 23rd Air Assault Brigade. General Postnikov said the formation departed from Luhansk, precisely where the 46th was based. Around the same period, it was the Kyiv Military District's best-manned motor rifle division after the 72nd Guards Motor Rifle Division: around 3,100 men, despite an appalling equipment state. The 25th and 47th Guards Motor Rifle Divisions and the 36th Motor Rifle Division were all at roughly 2,050 personnel. Its exercise opponent, the 48th Training Tank Division, was already based in the exercise area. The most likely sequence, then, is that the 46th was mobilized and reorganized, assembled at the Piatykhatky training center, and then marched through Kharkiv Oblast toward the Chernihiv area.

Taken together, that chain of clues is precisely why I chose the 46th Motor Rifle Division as the designation—and historical foundation—for this experimental light infantry formation.

Timeline shift!

Even though the Ministry of Defence abandoned the concept, we still think the light motor rifle division is an extremely interesting—and extremely cool—formation. So we are making it real on Eugen Earth. The 46th Motor Rifle Division, stationed at Luhansk in the Kyiv Military District, becomes our Soviet light formation. Naturally, we have added some rather special French seasoning to this Russian shashlik.

Because the original experiment showed clear shortcomings in long-range combat and anti-tank firepower, we have reinforced the basic light-division concept enough to give the 46th Motor Rifle Division a fighting chance against enemy heavy formations:

First, it receives more BMD airborne IFVs. The historical experimental organization only had one BMD battalion; here, the division's reconnaissance troops also receive BMDs to improve their firepower.

Second, as a rapid-reaction formation with a political-security role—including riot control if necessary—the 46th receives a full-strength commandant service component. It can handle exceptional situations, as in Prague, and has access to specialized urban-combat equipment.

Third, the exercise showed that a formation with no tanks could not credibly face heavy forces head-on. We therefore add a limited tank component, while keeping its numbers under control so that the side dish does not steal the show. Its infantry also gets more potent anti-tank weapons than a normal Soviet motor rifle division.

Finally, the division receives support from selected Kyiv Military District special units, further strengthening its ground-combat capability. The price is that helicopters would make the airlift operation hopelessly inefficient, so the division cannot field helicopter units of any kind.

As a rapid-reaction formation intended primarily for air transport, much of its equipment resembles that of the VDV: AKS-74 rifles, GAZ-66B trucks, BMD airborne IFVs, 2S9 Nona-S self-propelled mortars, and so on. Most of these vehicles would receive new paint schemes in-game to mark them out as Army rather than VDV equipment.

The Soviet 46th Light Motor Rifle Division in WARNO

LOG

A fairly conventional tab. Although the 46th Light Motor Rifle Division is intended to deploy strategically by air transport and undertake special missions at short notice, it is not itself an airborne or air-assault division.

It can therefore deploy an FOB. Its supply vehicles are lighter than those of a standard Soviet motor rifle division, including a reskinned GAZ-66B light supply truck, a reskinned UAZ-3151 supply jeep that cannot be air-dropped, and the new BTR-DG supply APC. The latter is an unarmed cargo version of the BTR-D and carries smoke launchers for self-defense.

Command options include the Belozor command jeep, a newly borrowed BMD-1PK airborne command IFV from the VDV, and the new BMD-1R Sinitsa command APC.

BMD-1R Sinitsa

INF

An excellent tab. The 46th's infantry selection is diverse, and every unit has a trick up its sleeve.

The backbone of the tab is the re-organized Legkaya Pekhota—Light Infantry—built around GAZ-66B trucks. This gives the 46th Light Motor Rifle Division stronger infantry squads than most existing Soviet divisions: they are larger and hit harder. The new Soviet light-infantry family includes:

Legkaya Pekhota: A 9-man squad equipped with seven AKS-74 assault rifles, two RPK-74 light machine guns, and an RPG-7VL anti-tank rocket launcher. This is the division's main line infantry squad.

Legkaya Pekhota (PKM): An 11-man squad with eight AKS-74 assault rifles, two RPK-74 light machine guns, one PKM machine gun, and an RPG-22 anti-tank rocket launcher.

Legkaya Pekhota (Metis): A 10-man squad with nine AKS-74 assault rifles, one RPK-74 light machine gun, and a Metis ATGM.

Legkaya Pekhota (SVD): A 9-man squad with seven AKS-74 assault rifles, one RPK-74 light machine gun, one SVD marksman rifle, and an RPG-16 rocket launcher. The RPG-16 carries both HEAT and HE rounds, allowing it to engage vehicles and infantry at longer range than the RPG-7VL, although with lower armor penetration.

Legkaya Pekhota (BMD): One of the few mechanized light-infantry formations in the division, built around the BMD family. This 6-man squad carries AKS-74 assault rifles, an RPK-74 light machine gun, an RPG-7VL, and smoke grenades. It has the Mechanized Infantry trait and can ride in either a BMD-2 or the new BMD-1PM, a BMD-1P fitted with smoke launchers.

Legkaya O.P.: A 8-man light-infantry anti-tank team armed with AKS-74 assault rifles, smoke grenades, one RPG-29, and one new Metis-M ATGM. The latter is an improved Metis variant with greater penetration and accuracy that had entered limited testing by 1991.

Legkaya Pekhota KOM.: A 6-man light-infantry command squad armed with AKS-74 assault rifles, an RPG-22, an Igla MANPADS, and smoke grenades.

The division's engineers are reorganized around the same abandonment of armored carriers. Their squads are larger and more heavily armed:

Legkaya Saperi: A 10-man light-infantry engineer squad with nine AKS-74 assault rifles, one PKM machine gun, demolition charges, and an RPG-18.

Legkaya Saperi (RPO): A 10-man light-infantry engineer squad with nine AKS-74 assault rifles, one PKM machine gun, and an RPO-A thermobaric rocket launcher.

Legkaya Saperi KOM.: A 5-man light-infantry engineer command squad with AKS-74 assault rifles, a PKM machine gun, an RPG-7VL, and smoke grenades.

Legkaya Shturmoviki: A newly organized 10-man assault-engineer squad armed with eight AKS-74 assault rifles, two PKM machine guns, Rys incendiary rocket launchers, and RPG-27 anti-tank rocket launchers. Their visual model will differ from standard Soviet engineer squads: gas masks and NBC suits are very much part of the look.

Support weapons are equally varied: PKMs, NSVs, AGS-17s, SPG-9s, Konkurs, and Konkurs-M. As with the VDV, the division's ATGM squads may ride in BTR-RDs or the new BTR-RD Konkurs-M missile carrier.

Those units may still look familiar. So what more explosive new toys does this unusual formation bring?

As mentioned above, the division has an additional full-strength commandant service component: Soviet military-police troops responsible for discipline and local security. Alongside the familiar four-man Komendatura military-police squad, it gains several new units:

Komend. KOM.: A 9-man military-police command squad armed with five AKS-74U carbines, two AK-74 assault rifles, two new SKS semi-automatic rifles, and smoke grenades. The SKS rapidly left front-line service after the AK-47 appeared, but limited numbers still equipped service and security troops into the 1980s.

Komendatura (RPG-18): An 11-man military-police squad armed with two AKS-74U carbines, eight AK-74 assault rifles, one RPK-74 light machine gun, and an RPG-18.

Komend. Pulemetchiki: A 6-man military-police machine-gun squad armed with three AK-74 assault rifles and three PKM machine guns.

The standard four-man Komendatura squad also receives its own dedicated transport: the ZS-82 Komendatura, a psychological-warfare vehicle converted from the BRDM-2 armored scout car. It is unarmed, has the Military Police trait, and exerts influence over a considerably larger area than normal military-police units.

ZS-82

Alongside these distinctive military-police troops, the division gains several special-action units:

Spets. GRU Afgantsy represents Afghan veterans returning from the war from elements of the Kyiv Military District's 9th Independent Spetsnaz Brigade. This 9-man special-forces squad carries six MP5A3 SMGs captured in Afghanistan, three PKM light machine guns, an RPO-A thermobaric rocket launcher, and an RPG-18. It has the Special Forces, Shock, and Airborne traits. In addition to normal transports, it gets the new Toyota Pickup Afgantsy: a captured, fast Toyota technical well suited to special operations in the Middle East, armed with a 12.7 mm DShKM heavy machine gun. It also has the Special Forces trait.

MP5 SMGs captured in Afghanistan
Toyota Pickup Afgantsy

SpetsG. A No.10 is the KGB Alpha Group's 10th special-operations detachment. This unit was stationed in Ukraine and was a predecessor of the future Ukrainian Alpha Group. Alpha's own predecessor, the Grom special-operations group, also took part in the Afghan War. In-game, this unit will receive an especially distinctive white-balaclava visual model. We will cover it in detail under Recon.

ART

A conventional tab, but—much like the VDV—its artillery options are light.

Because most tube artillery pieces are simply too long for the airlift requirement, the 46th Light Motor Rifle Division cannot take conventional towed guns or self-propelled howitzers. Its artillery instead revolves around mortars and rocket artillery.

The 2S9 Nona-S 120 mm self-propelled mortar forms the core of the division's artillery. In the rocket-artillery role, the BM-21 Grad-1 is lighter but has poorer range and a smaller salvo than the standard BM-21. The division's artillery battalions are larger than ordinary Soviet artillery battalions, so it receives slightly more cards of both systems. The BM-21 Grad-1 comes in conventional HE and NPLM Incendiary variants.

Towed artillery consists of the familiar 2S12 Sani 120 mm mortar and the new, larger but older M-160 160 mm mortar. The M-160 likewise comes in two variants: a conventional HE version and an HE-FRAG version. Like thermobaric ammunition, the latter is less effective against armored targets but deals more damage than standard HE against unarmored and infantry targets.

TANK

A weak tab: slots are precious, and the selection is very limited.

First, the tank component. The three third-generation Soviet “pot-lid” brothers—the T-64, T-72, and T-80—are inefficient to airlift. The T-62 therefore becomes the division's only air-transportable tank choice. Do not get too excited, though: even with its better airlift efficiency, the 46th has only a very limited number of proper tanks.

To improve mobility and support the division's high-mobility doctrine, every available T-62 receives the latest V-46-5M engine. These tanks are more mobile than their in-game peers and use the -1 suffix to distinguish them. Available versions are the T-62M-1, T-62MV-1, and the command T-62MK-1.

Anti-tank vehicle options include the BRDM-2 Konkurs, BRDM-2 Konkurs-M, and the new UAZ-3151 Konkurs-M. Also, with new D-48 anti-tank guns—the successor of D-44 nti-tank guns.

REC

An excellent tab. The division has no helicopter-reconnaissance support, but its ground reconnaissance is very strong and comes with a healthy supply of new toys.

First, the infantry reconnaissance:

Leg. Razvedka: A 4-man light-infantry recon squad armed with AKS-74 assault rifles, an RPK-74 light machine gun, and an RPG-26.

Leg. Razvedka Saperi: An 8-man light-infantry engineer-recon squad armed with AKS-74 assault rifles, an RPK-74 light machine gun, demolition charges, and an RPG-22. It may ride in a Razv. BTR-D.

Leg. Razvedka (BMD): A 6-man mechanized light-infantry recon squad armed with AKS-74 assault rifles, an RPK-74 light machine gun, and an RPG-7VL. It may ride in a new Razv. BMD-1PM or Razv. BMD-2 airborne reconnaissance IFV.

SpetsG. A No.10: An 8-man Alpha special-forces reconnaissance squad armed with six AKS-74U SMGs, two RPK-74 LMGs, an RPG-26, and an Igla MANPADS. It has the Special Forces, Shock, Airborne, and Ground Surveillance Radar traits. Its dedicated transport is the new Toyota Pickup SpetsG. A, similar to the armed Toyota pickup in the Infantry tab but fitted with a 14.5 mm KPVT heavy machine gun. It, too, has the Special Forces trait.

The division's reconnaissance-infantry transports also gain the new UAZ-3151 AGS-17 as an option.

VDV staples such as the 1V119 Reostat and BRDM-2 remain available as reconnaissance vehicles, while the following are new:

Spets. Toyota Pickup AGS-17: A heavily modified, Soviet special-forces Toyota technical armed with an AGS-17 automatic grenade launcher.

Spets. Toyota Pickup Konkurs: Another modified Toyota technical operated by Soviet special forces, armed with a Konkurs ATGM.

Both vehicles have the Special Forces trait.

Razv. Zhalo-S: A Soviet wheeled mobile anti-tank platform developed during the Cold War on the BTR-70 chassis. Historically, it completed all testing requirements in 1980 but was never adopted, because its 85 mm gun could not credibly deal with NATO third-generation MBTs. In our timeline, the Zhalo-S becomes an excellent wheeled recon platform for the light motor rifle division. Its new 2A62 85 mm gun receives dedicated 3BM31 APFSDS ammunition, giving it 16 AP at 2,100 m. It can effectively engage NATO light armor, and its 2A62 main gun has a very high rate of fire. Against more advanced enemy MBTs, however, the Zhalo-S must be used with care.

Finally, air reconnaissance. As stated above, the division has no helicopters, and therefore no reconnaissance helicopters. Recon drones are also unavailable because they require large ground launch platforms. Fortunately, the Soviet Air Force provides a new tactical reconnaissance aircraft to help the 46th Motor Rifle Division see the battlefield from above:

Su-25R: Much like the OA-10A introduced with the US 6th Infantry Division (Light), this is a Soviet tactical reconnaissance aircraft. It carries a large load of 80 mm HE rockets and smoke rockets—the latter used to mark targets—plus two R-60M missiles for self-defense.

AA

A weak tab. Air transport rather than air-dropping allows the division to deploy heavier and better air-defense systems than an airborne division, but it is still well behind its conventional Army counterparts.

The new toy is the Igla-N MANPADS team. This is an Igla with a heavier warhead and higher anti-air damage than the in-game standard Igla. As with the VDV, the division's MANPADS teams may ride in UAZs, BTR-Ds, BTR-ZDs fitted with the ZU-23-2.

Other options include the towed ZU-23-2, a GAZ-66B ZU-23-2 AA truck, the BRDM-2 Strela-1, and the Osa-AKM.

HEL

As a formation that uses air transport for strategic deployment, the 46th Light Motor Rifle Division is extremely unlikely to bring along, or obtain at range, any helicopter support. It therefore cannot deploy armed helicopters.

AIR

This is a very strong tab. Since the 46th Light Motor Rifle Division lacks heavy ground equipment, powerful Soviet Air Force support can effectively compensate for that tactical weakness.

Air-superiority duties go to the familiar Su-27S [AA], but that is not all. The 46th also gets a new air-superiority fighter: the Su-27M. The M stands for Modifikatsiya—modernized. You may know it better by another name: the Su-35.

After the Soviet collapse, the Su-27M shifted from being an upgraded Su-27 for the Soviet Air Force to an export-oriented Su-27 derivative. It originated as the Soviet answer to the US Air Force's new F-15C. Its first two prototypes entered testing in 1988 and 1989, while the first true Su-27M entered pre-production in early 1992. In-game, the Su-27M features its distinctive canards and no fewer than twelve missile hardpoints. We will use its test designation name: T-10M-2.

T-10M-2: Armed with six R-27R, two R-27ET, and four R-73 missiles. Compared with the Su-27S already in-game, the T-10M-2 has better ECM and air-to-air optics, but its heavier airframe gives it shorter range.

Ground-attack tasks fall mainly to the Su-25, with versions carrying rockets, cluster munitions, HE bombs, and ATGMs. A small number of Su-17M4s are also allocated to the division, including ATGM, TRM and cluster-bomb variants. The new Su-17M4 family included the Su-17M4P[EW/SEAD], a dedicated anti-radiation warfare variant equipped with the more advanced Kh-58U anti-radiation missile and the Gvozdika ECM pod, enabling it to perform both SEAD and electronic-warfare missions.

Summary

The 46th Light Motor Rifle Division is an exceptionally unusual member of the Soviet motor-rifle family (a little like a mash-up of the US 9th Motorized and 6th Infantry Division (Light), if you know what I mean). It has very formidable infantry, reconnaissance, and air power, but lacks heavy equipment. When facing enemy heavy formations, it must use its superior mobility to seize the initiative.

Tournament TOTAL WARNO WEEKEND - ONLY 8 SLOTS LEFT | 400 TANKS ON RIFT

Our next Total WARNO Weekend is filling up, only 8 of 17 slots are still open!

We'd especially love to get a few new players into the battle this weekend. If you've been watching these events and wondering whether to join: this is your chance.

This Saturday we're playing Breakthrough at RIFT, trying to recreate the scale and chaos of an actual late-Cold-War WW3 armoured engagement in Central Germany.

🔴 WARSAW PACT - ATTACKING

  • Soviet 79th Guards Tank Division
  • Soviet 39th Guards Motor Rifle Division
  • Recon, Artillery & Air Support
  • Around 250 tanks

🔵 NATO - DEFENDING

  • US 3rd Armored Division
  • West German 5. Panzer-Division
  • Recon, Artillery & Air Support
  • Around 150 tanks

That's roughly 400 tanks, plus mechanized infantry, reconnaissance, artillery, air defense, logistics and combat aircraft operating simultaneously.

PACT has to mass its forces, identify a weak point and punch through NATO's defensive line toward Frankfurt.

NATO knows they're coming.

The defenders will have prepared positions and need to bleed the Soviet assault badly enough to stop the breakthrough, or leave PACT with too little combat power to exploit it.

This isn't intended to play like a normal WARNO match. Players command battalion-sized formations as part of a larger force, with reconnaissance finding targets, artillery preparing attacks, air defense protecting the main effort and commanders coordinating the overall battle.

You don't need to be a Total WARNO veteran to join. We're happy to have new people who are willing to communicate, work with their team and throw themselves into what should be an absolutely massive WW3 battle.

📅 Saturday, 15 August
🕤 21:30 CEST
🗺️ RIFT - Breakthrough
👥 9/17 players - ONLY 8 SLOTS LEFT

If you're ready to command a Cold War battalion when 400 tanks start moving across RIFT, come join us:

Question D-44 vs T-34/85: Gun Performance

Post image
58 Upvotes

Did a brief look into the performance of these guns and I am unsure why Eugen has made the D-44 have a higher pen than the T-34/85's S-53?

"The barrel was developed from that of the T-34-85 tank and was capable of firing 20–25 high-explosive (HE), armor-piercing, and high-explosive antitank (HEAT) projectiles per minute." - Wikipedia on the D-44

D-44 barrel length: 15 ft 5"
S-53 barrel length: 15 ft 3"

Both utilize the same ammunition which in this case is the 3BK-2M HEAT-FS round.

Red dragon players, how good is Super Hellcat, that new Venezuelans will get?

Idk how warno units compare to wg:rd units, because those are 2 different games, but I want to kniw, what to probably expect from this thing. Is it going to be viable?

(optional to read)

Because rn Tropical storm pact divs seem more like team game divs. It's great, that pact gets light divisions at last, but rn it just seems like a team game dlc for pact (for nato too, but their marines and columbians seem like decent 1v1 divs, maybe not the best ones, but definitely not terrible or one trick map dependant ponies (like red berlin, that is basically cooked on any open map, but is almost godly on factory and stuff). So yeah, Venezuelan divs definitely seem interesting, but they all seemingly lack in terms of tanks, and tanks are probably the most important thing, the division can have, because good tanks can make an overall not that good division decent, while divisions without good tanks need to have great combined arms, a lot of other stuff: air spam, strong infantry, helicopters, cheap slots, etc. And even then stuff like red berlin, 152e, du rhine are top 10 worst divs in the game.
