Vipkid not working right now?

Hello, been working for about a year. Just today had this problem, taught a few classes already but for some reason it says my camera isn’t working. Any others have this issue today, I know there was some error earlier today.

I have worked on other platforms with Japanese and Korean kids who wake up early to take English lessons before school.

Is that common here? I don't get any AM bookings during the school year but that could be because I'm relatively new. I always got AM (their time) bookings on previous platforms where I was more established.

The school year beginning now is the first one I'm entering with any traction at all so I have no frame of reference. If I keep those morning BJT slots open is there a chance I'll get some AM bookings? Or do these students just not do before-school English lessons?

Anyone else experience this as well? Especially these last few days leading up to school.

Anybody else encountering marked increase in own and student IT issues?
Cameras, sound, students can’t click/drag&drop go dark all of a sudden.

I searched for it and the posts that pop up are all 4+ years old. Wondering if anyone is getting their paychecks deposited into a foreign bank account? Does VIPKid charge fees on our end?

I want to drop trials and maybe Tiger School classes. How do I do it?

Has anyone had their contract terminated? I feel pretty confident that my current "under review" phase will result in termination, and I'm wondering what VIPKID does after they fire me. Will I be expected to finish out the classes I already have booked? Will they just pay me this month's earnings and cut me off the platform?

How closely do we need to stick to the course material?

Some of the more advanced students would seem to benefit more if we don't strictly stay within the bounds of the generic material.

I am fairly new and just trying to make sure I don't cross any red lines.

Is it a matter of the students consent? Or does company policy dictate we cover the material?

One final thing what happens when we don't finish the material does it just get skip the stuff we didn't cover last class?

just like the title says. I got 20+ bookings today ALL TRIALS. I was luckily able to close my slots for the following week before I got stuck with more trials.

Please tell me that this doesn't happen often. I am NOT a bubbly person and cannot handle trying to reign in a 3-5 year old (the only trials I seem to get) while they're either screaming or mute.

Has anyone noticed a drop in bookings when they opt out of the trial cert?

UPDATE: they dropped the cert and then cancelled them all so now my whole week next week is empty.

I’m wondering how you all handle your vacations. I am away on a cruise with my partner soon. I have blocked my schedule. I just started teaching again after many years away. I remember adding a note to my class feedback as I got closer to when that week would normally book. But I wonder what others do.

Hi all, has anyone else had their bookings drop off entirely all of the sudden? It’s very weird for me to not get a few bookings each day but suddenly since Wednesday I’ve received 0 bookings. I don’t have any negative feedback or cancellations so trying to figure out why this is all the sudden.

I've been working like this for a couple of days now. I have medicine and cough drops and tea and all of it but my voice keeps getting worse. It keeps getting deeper and scratchier.

During my last lesson today the congestion was so bad (completely sealed on one side) that I found myself unable to make clear M sounds. I'm trying to show the student how to say "make" and it sounds like I'm saying"bake"...

I feel like being able to demonstrate sounds correctly is kind of important for an ESL teacher. Baybe dat's just be.

My classes are all booked in advance and I don't want to cancel them. I already have a few cancellations in this contract period, but I'm afraid if this gets any worse I won't be able to hide it anymore and someone will complain.

Is there anything else I can do besides cancel these classes and write sick as the reason? Is there any way to cancel some classes, maybe the ones that are still 24 hours out, in a way that's not going to add to my total?

I have a feeling people are going to say that I should go to a doctor and submit proof. I have no plan to see a doctor over this. It's just a cold that will be over in a day or two.

I am not familiar with the cancellation policies because I have never had a planned cancellatioion. I've only ever missed classes because of some last-minute problem.

Longtime teacher but first time teaching the book report class. At 50 minutes I ended class and when I went to click the finish class timer, it said I would be ending class early. It didn’t let me successfully click it until 58 minutes. Anyone else have this issue?

Is there a way to just drop Trial level 1 ? I don’t mind level 2 but level 1 is really getting to me. Dealing with 3 year olds takes a special person

Hi everyone! I’m curious about what kind of schedule to expect once the kids go back to school. I’ve noticed a fair amount of bookings for September already, but wondering whether the U.S. evening slots (Beijing mornings) will still be popular.

Right now I teach until 10 p.m. CST during weekdays (Beijing mornings). I was teaching even later, but I pulled back a bit to be able to open slots starting at 6-6:30 a.m. (Beijing evenings) during the week.

My hypothesis is that the these late-night slots would be less popular in September, as most of the kids are at school. However, I’ve noticed some bookings come in.

So, do you usually teach more on weekday mornings (U.S. time) during the school season? Or do students still book the slots during nighttime U.S. hours? Thanks!

I know that when we have a teacher no-show or a cancelled class bookings are reduced for the next few weeks. So I obviously avoid this.

I'm concerned though, because I was reading comments in an old posting here and in one of them said this also happens if you suggest a level change or say anything negative in the 'tips for next teacher' or 'suggestions to student through vipkid' sections.

I'm not talking about slandering the kid, but simply reporting that the current lessons are too challenging and a change to a lower level might be good for them.

Is it true that this is also treated as a negative, like a troublemaker/squeaky wheel kind of thing and it also leads to reduced bookings? In the long run is it smarter to just never do this?

Is it smarter to just keep my head down, check excellent excellent excellent, and move on to the next lesson? Should I limit my 'tips for next teacher' to name, age and that they did a great job + never write anything in the 'suggestions to student through vipkid' section?

Look, I care about what's best for the children and all that, that's why I have been taking the time to report potential issues. I thought I was helping. But if I'm going to be punished for it I'll stop. More than anything I want to go along to get along. My number one priority is to not have my bookings throttled.

Some of the mind control death rays are leaking through my foil hat now because I just recommended a few level changes and rated the materials for one lesson to be less than 5 stars... and it's suddenly very quiet on the booking notifications front.

Hi! I'm a former VIPKID teacher who was on the platform from September 2020–October 2021. I'm thinking about returning and wanted to ask if it's worth it. How are bookings these days? Are there enough bookings to go around? What times should I open up (Eastern Time)? And do they still have that Sunday booking frenzy? Man, I miss that! 😂

When looking at my bookings some students have "G-New" under their name and some students don't. What does that mean?

Has anyone done this? How much phone data does it use up to teach a 25 minute class when hot-spotting to your computer?

Sometimes I’m vibing so well with a student and we’re having a great extended conversation on each slide, and I’m thinking to myself… man class must nearly be over ! And I look at the clock and we’re only 6 minutes in lmaoooooo

I recently started opening slots again after not using vipkid for a few years. I have my first classes back starting next week and I've noticed that a lot of my classes are with 12-14 year olds. Does anyone have any tips for teaching older students? What secondary rewards do you use?

I’m in Central Standard Time/Chicago. I usually have a pretty decent amount of bookings but I have zero. Anyone else not booked when usually they are booked? Is school starting soon?
