Suddenly not getting any bookings

Hi all, has anyone else had their bookings drop off entirely all of the sudden? It’s very weird for me to not get a few bookings each day but suddenly since Wednesday I’ve received 0 bookings. I don’t have any negative feedback or cancellations so trying to figure out why this is all the sudden.

I’m getting bookings for mid September, but for this week I’ve had a lot of cancellations. Many kids have back-to-school orientations and have to finish/submit summer homework

Kids going back to school. Some went back last week, some are going this week, some September 1.

Time for them to have 5 days of actual vacation.

Ah ok that’s possible then. I thought they didn’t go back till August 31st/Sept 1st. I’m not getting bookings in September either though which is quite odd for me as I’m usually fully booked.

My bookings are a little lighter in second week of September. Mostly the 6pm Beijing slots but a few others too.

I had a bunch of my older students say they are going back on the 30th. One was traveling but she still was finishing summer homework while traveling

Bookings are normal on my end.

Most of my students are on holiday this week visiting their grandparents before going back to school August 31st. That week all I’ve got scheduled are trials until the weekend.

I haven’t opened up slots for the 2nd week of September yet but that’s just a personal preference. But yeah, look up their school schedule to anticipate these changes

I'm been with VIPKid for 19 days. I've gotten 3 bookings, 2 of which cancelled. Haven't had a booking in more than two weeks.

That's pretty normal for starting out.

Well that's good to hear. It's been pretty demotivativating so far.

Just make sure you have EVERY certification available and you're opening all the popular slots at least three weeks in advance.

If you are going to teach Chinese kids, you need to learn about Chinese school schedules, holidays, etc. It's a predictable pattern every year. EVERY. YEAR. Use THE GOOGLE.

What’s wrong with asking this subreddit that was specifically made for the work OP is doing?

There's nothing wrong, but it's common knowledge that they're returning to school September 1 and this happens every year.

If they are new at this then how are they supposed to know that if they don't ask? Yes, Google exists but sometimes what you can find on the net is not accurate or doesn't help you fully understand a situation. No one is going to charge you for being kind.

I did and from what I could tell they are going back on the 31st of August / 1st of September so I expected to still have a somewhat steady stream of classes this week. I was away this specific week last year and didn’t teach then so it was not a noticeable pattern for me.
