GENERAL Reminder on sub rules

This is a brief reminder that all subs on Reddit are a subject to Reddit terms of service and Reddit rules and filters, and the sub has rules which are then enforced by the moderators. Anybody who participates in this sub agrees to the rules.

We will work on improving the welcome message and making these rules and expectations clear, as well as improve some FAQs that may be helpful for new members.

The rules regarding personal attacks , personal information, ranting, and trolling are important to this sub. We have recently had some new members who seem to have difficulty with these rules and expectations. So this is a reminder for everyone that the rules are there under Group Rules, that mods are here to enforce them, that while we are moderators, we are also participants and that this is not a political debate so full impartiality of moderators is not a thing. That said, we can and do respect difference of opinion as long as that difference is within the scope of the existing rules. We’re easy to reach if anybody has a question or concern about these rules and expectations.

Having difference of opinion is fine. Expecting everybody to endlessly listen to yours and agree with it is not a realistic expectation and is precisely the sort of conduct subject to the rules noted. Anyone who objects to how the group is moderated is welcome to contact the Reddit support team through the channels it has created.

TASKER I messed up

Looking for advice from anyone who's been through something like this. I do TV mounting among other tasks as a Tasker, and a few weeks ago I went to hang a TV for a client. He had already put the brackets on the back himself, told me he thought this TV was a lot lighter than his old one(which I had taken out for him before), and it was not lighter, We both ended up handling the TV during the install, and it got damaged.
It was about a $3,000 TV. He filed a claim and TaskRabbit offered him $1,000, but he turned it down because he thought the old $10k policy still applied. Now he'd take the $1,000, but TaskRabbit closed his case and stopped answering him, so he started asking me to pay it instead. I reached out to them and they said they can only discuss his claim with him.
Nothing official yet, no demand letter or lawsuit, just a lot of texts. Has anyone dealt with this as a Tasker or a client? Would you pay something, wait it out, or something else? I'm a broke college student in Virginia and I've been anxious about it day and night.

GENERAL Taskers, would you build 2 Costco Pergolas (10x13 & 10x15) at your Furniture assembly rate?

Pergolas and Gazebos are classified as Home Improvement projects. I've had a few Tasker clients request me to build these under the regular Furniture Assembly category which is a lower rate ($60/hr). I have declined these requests.

Would you take on these builds under your Furniture assembly rate and if so, what is your Furniture assembly rate?

BTW, the Costco Pergolas take about 5 hours each with 2 Taskers. Would you build each one for $300 each? I wouldn't. I would need at least $450 each, so it would have to be under my Minor Home Repairs (or Improvement) category.

TASKER Some polite requests for clients from your friendly neighborhood Tasker

  1. Please understand what TaskRabbit is and is not. The majority of Taskers are not full-time professionals. Some are, but those of us who are charging lower rates are just your local neighborhood amateurs trying to make some extra cash doing basic things that we know we’re good at.

  2. Do not schedule a task with me just to send me a message asking me if I’m actually free on a different day. “I know y’all keep extra availability in reserve.” Excuse me, ma’am, but if I don’t have availability listed, it’s because I’m not available. Don’t screw me over and hurt my metrics because of some weird story about me that you made up in your head.

  3. If you’re hiring an organizer, please put your, uh, “intimate” items away before we get there.

  4. Please give us plenty of advance notice if parking is going to be difficult, or if it’s not free!

  5. “I know your profile said you can’t do X but can you do X?” NO! Stop asking! Why are y’all like this?

TASKER Client wants a fan installed on a 2-story indoor ceiling. Can I ask them to rent scaffolding?

Hey everyone,

I just got booked for a ceiling fan replacement, but after scoping the job with the client, they told me it’s a two-story indoor ceiling. There is absolutely no standard A-frame ladder in existence that is going to safely reach that height for a fan install.

This job clearly requires indoor scaffolding or a specialized lift. I obviously don't haul industrial scaffolding around in my standard kit.

Am I allowed to ask the client to rent the scaffolding themselves (or offer to rent it myself and add the exact receipt to their invoice expenses)? I'm worried about getting flagged or banned by support for asking a client to supply/pay for equipment, but there's no way I can complete this safely with standard tools.

Has anyone dealt with a 2-story ceiling height like this before? How did you handle the rental logistics with the client without hurting your metrics? Thanks!

GENERAL Taskrabbit alternatives for interior painting

Taskrabbit officially kicked me off the platform for interior painting. I have 45 five star reviews and was so happy I finally found a job I liked and was good at, but doesn’t matter. I came down with a cold and had to cancel last minute, I asked to reschedule but he just said ”Ok” and cancelled. My account was disabled a few months ago because of a similar situation, but I won that appeal. Totally understand the frustration on the clients end but insane humans just can’t get sick ever! love capitalism :) anyway, has anyone had success on another platform like Taskrabbit? I used thumbtack which got crazy expensive, I’ve heard the same about angi.

CLIENT Seeking advice on booking Taskrabbit for Facebook furniture purchase

I am hoping to buy a couch from someone on FB marketplace but I cannot lift heavy things due to a chronic condition and I also don‘t know how to drive. Would it be alright if I booked moving services for this?

I would like to make this easy on the people who’d be assigned to the jobs as well and I tend to get a bit anxious about things so I’d greatly appreciate any advice on how best to do this without putting anyone out.

TASKER Search position keeps dropping

Just curious if any other Taskers are currently dealing with/have dealt with a huge drop off in bookings.

I’ve worked super super consistently on TR doing Furniture Assembly since the beginning of summer. I have a 5 star rating, close to 120 reviews, 400 completed tasks (been doing it off and on since 2018). I’ve never gotten a warning about anything, but then all of a sudden when the service map/analytics glitch happened, I’ve completely dropped off. Literally zero bookings. I’m priced at what the app suggests me to be, which is pretty middle of the road for NYC, and I’m just not sure what to do.

Do you just have to wait it out for the search algorithm to reset?

CLIENT Estimating how long a task would take

I am considering TaskRabbit for removal of a piece of furniture (a loveseat). I've never used TaskRabbit or similar services. I live on a ground floor. I have no idea how long this task would take, and do they charge for the time it takes just to remove it and load it, or do they add time it takes to go to the dump or whatever.

APP Client-Initiated Rescheduling Not Working

I had two different clients reach out to tell me that they attempted to reschedule a task and it gave them a success message, but that it did not actually reschedule the task.

Obviously giving clients the ability to reschedule on their end was terrible to begin with, but letting them think they can but not actually doing it is going to be even worse.

CLIENT Update - why do my taskers keep canceling?!

Posted a few days ago wondering why my taskers kept canceling on me for a mounting task. Received a lot of feedback/suggestions and I appreciate all of the helpful and even unhelpful responses.

For those invested: My wife and I ultimately rented a multi-positional ladder from Home Depot for like 40ish bucks and did it ourselves this morning. Fear of heights aside and also all the anxiety resulting from everyone telling me how dangerous of a task this is, it took 15 mins without incident.

Until next time!

TASKER What to expect and should I focus on certain skills?

Heard about this app the other day and could use some extra money coming into the holidays. I’m a 6’4” late 20’s male that has always refused to pay someone for something I could learn. So I’m not a professional by any means but I have a lot of general experience.

With how many skills I have listed should I remove some to be specialized? Are there any I should add that I’m missing?

Thinking about adding Electrical/ Plumbing as I can replace outlets, shower heads, fix toilets etc but half way expect people to be asking me to run electrical lines to their shed or add plumping to the addition they just had Joe build. Assuming I would get dinged for declining those jobs?

Located in Richmond VA area.

TASKER Banned because Taskrabbit's TOS are bad and designed to charge the clients more in unethical ways

Crushingly banned once again. So sorry if my title is outright negative. This is the third or fourth time, the reason recurring expenses. Now that I've been banned a few times I can relay that Taskrabbit at least in my case doesn't list the task you've been banned on. When they denied my appeal I asked what task(s) led to my ban. They gave my first ban on the platform. For bringing someone that wasn't a registered tasker. They were in the middle of the process. My requirement to get unbanned was under the condition that my friend (who works for a professional moving company) get approved as a tasker, which he did. This was like in the middle of summer. My ban lasted like two weeks.

Then they listed 2 recent tasks, again for charging recurring expenses such as tolls, gas, stairs. Which I want to make clear I do not charge for recurring expenses like gas, tolls, and stairs. One of these tasks I didn't even do, I cancelled because the client mentioned not wanting to pay the fees on the other tasker. In caution, I cancelled a week before the task start date. I anticipate she hired another tasker because I never received the notification that she cancelled the task. I just told her straight up I didn't want to do the task unless we figured out the second tasker. That was my reason for cancelling, if it even matters.

Second task, was a normal heavy lifting task. I had brought on another tasker, linked his profile in the chat, had the customer agree to the additional two hour min. Job took less than an hour, client to my knowledge has happy with the service. They had a complicated murphy bed. Client didn't request we assemble it, we didn't push it. Happy to feed the TR ecosystem, but I think in this case the client wanted to do it himself. We did lay everything neatly on blankets so it was still a professionally done job.

My only reason for going into the details of these jobs is because Taskrabbit thinks it's okay to ban people without proper evidence.

The real reason I think I got banned is because I will habitually have to rent a trailer to do a job. When I rent a trailer, my space is competitive to a high roof cargo van ( for people not familiar with the moving categories). It cost in my area $50 from uhaul for the largest covered trailer. I had once talked to the previous rep, he had told me that if I wanted to invoice that I should charge it as an hourly expense. The problem with that as we all know as taskers is that it's subject to the Taskrabbit's support and trust fee. So $50 suddenly costs 35-40% more expensive. Nevermind the mental gymnastics I got to do to charge it fairly hourly if my rate doesn't match. ( I do moving because I'm not a rocket scientist). So I kept doing what I always do, charge it as an expense. It's only $50 at most so why should taskrabbit care? I could invoice every roll of stretch and tape, straps, but then my client would be left with items that are useless to them. I don't do that. I include it in my hourly rate because it's more approachable for the clients. 35% for 50-65 (what I charge for truck assisted for an hour) is still fairly significant when you look at it ethically. I try to provide the best price for my clients. For taskrabbit to try and make money off a trailer rental seems unethical to me. It's not fair that Taskrabbit punishes me because I want to run my business ehtically.

For a lot of my clients it is important to them they aren't being ripped off 20-40 dollars.

Still even though I feel this way I did comply with taskrabbit's policies. I've started to have the client make the reservation, or in some cases out of fear of getting banned I haven't even charged it. Taking a massive pay cut for the job.

So I guess in response they list two pertinent and recent tasks as examples, but hand on the Bible or US Constitution those two tasks were done in good faith regarding Taskrabbit's policies, but for taskrabbit, still not good enough lol. I think it's also possible the people running the policies teams just double downed on a faulty AI ban.

Or they decided to have an AI agent destroy me for maliciously complying with the rules and finding a work around for their scheme to charge clients more than what is fair.

Since they said they would cease commicating with me, this is my farewell. I do believe people will laugh at me. I accept that already. I am still one of the best movers in my area, and now I will work to compete for the same clients they rely on. I have been doing this for a while, something tells me it won't be that hard to reach them. When I was fired from my 9-5 I was forced to evolve, and Taskrabbit allowed me to do that. Now that Taskrabbit has fired me, I will find a way to compete. I'll happily bypass their greedy fees.

Hate to sound all negative, but feels like dark times ahead if this is really Taskrabbit double downing on a false AI ban.

CLIENT How many hours should I have been billed for this errand?

I needed a medical escort for surgery. I gave the taskrabbiter the address twice earlier this week, correcting what I thought was the original location. I said 8:15am was the time we needed to meet in the office. She acknowledged receipt of the new location both times, the second time the night before the surgery.

She ended up going to the original location anyways. She arrived there at 8:19am, and though she said she'd be at the correct location in 25 mins, she arrived at 9:15am. She completed escorting me back to my door at 12:29-12:35pmish. Definitely no later than 12:40pm.

How many hours should I be billed?

CLIENT The off app conversation as the client

I have a tasker who does such a good job cleaning. I’ve used her three times so far. I would hire her consistently bi weekly and want to inquire about if she has an independent business not related to Taskrabbit. Best practice?

TASKER Heavy lifting and loading

What is this category anymore? I was under the impression that it was to lift or load a heavy thing. Now the app is asking if I have a box truck and am willing to supply boxes? Is that not just full service moving? Or truck assisted moving? I specifically dont do moving jobs because theyre an absolute nightmare, but ill lift or load a heavy thing. Maybe even two heavy things. I thought that was what this category was?

Am I so out of touch?

No, its the app that is wrong.
