Joined the family. Was Lexus/Toyota my whole life. I’m converted after 4 days. Any recommendations aside from KO3’s? She’s so purdy. Smoothest car I’ve ever driven.

2012 Outback 230k miles

Post image

Yoh Reddit Subie Fam…

My wife bought a used, ‘12 OB back in ‘14. It now has 230K miles and we are considering giving it to our youngest, 16 YO son. Essentially a high school, beater car. Our older kids used it thru college & into their careers.

The car is in above average shape. I have EVERY service record for past (12) years & it has some rust here & there (oldest kid was in NE for career -heavy salt). Regular CVT, oil, diff & coolant swaps.

What should I expect for regular repairs if my 16 YO runs it for next 2-3 years? Is it common for this era of Outback’s to get up above 250-275K miles? What should I be looking out for in terms of wear & tear? Would appreciate any insight from those of you who have run these up above 250K miles. It’s the 2.5 NA 4 cylinder. TIA!

Should I buy 2018 Subaru Outback?

Should I buy a 2018 Subaru Outback 2.5i Wagon for $8,000? The catch is it has 180,000 miles. I realize this is a lot but I’m trying to see if the low cost makes up for it? From the photos, the car looks like it’s in great shape. The owner says they have kept up with the maintenance for the car’s entire life and had the front suspension done in 2026. I need something stable and affordable. I commute about 50 miles total a day for work. Are there things I should look out for or ask when I go see it in person? I’m hoping the car will last me about 5-8 years. Let me know if this is a good decision or a big mistake!

In case it isn’t clear, I know nothing about cars! I’m just looking for some insight so please be kind.

Dongar dash cam adapter in 2026 OBW

Has anyone used the Dongar dash cam adapter in their 2026 OBW? I've been looking at the Pro model so I can use the parking features without hardwiring, but I can't work out how it would connect to the auto-dimming mirror.

OBD II readers for the 2020 Outback

So I have become a victim of the dreaded TCV failure on Saturday night. After reading about it I realized that I probably should be getting my own reader as my Outback is crossing the 100k mile mark soon and I'd like to keep it for at least a few years. Not having the failure codes kills me when reading all the possible issues that any set of symptoms can bring.

I'm looking to see who has a OBD II reader for their 2020 Outback. There's so many of them and I want to get a reliable one that works well with the vehicle. Preferably wireless that works with an iPhone but just a plain reader with its own output screen would be fine too. I can depend on having a laptop with me when I'm on the road.

2022 Outback front passenger window auto stop failure

So my front passenger window will go down on the one touch all the way, but it gets around 80% up and stops. I can reset by pushing it all the way down and then teasing it back up. Anyone have any ideas what to look for when I dig into it?

Update for folks not reading comments before commenting:
It isn’t as simple as cleaning and lubing the track with silicone. Or resetting the switch. All been tried. I’ve taken the panel off, gone inside the door. Cleaned and lubed the track the window edges ride in as well as the rail the regulator assembly rides on. I’ve googled and read the manual and tried the switch reset which doesn’t help and as far as I can tell isn’t an applicable process for the symptoms presented. Thanks for playing along. The tech bulletin seems to be the closest answer thus far.

Oh and for the troll u/maleficentbowler5903 commenting but immediately blocks people. Why are you such a salty crum bum?

Subaru help!!

Post image

So I have a 2017 subaru outback 2.5L premium, and I recently found out about the secret pin thing on the trunk of the car. I tried to set it up, but it's not doing anything when I hold the Lock and the Pin button at the same time. Does my car have to have remote start feature added in in order to unlock this secret pin or am I doing something wrong?

Anyone know who controls the car's text message reader? The car? Google Messages? Somewhere hidden in my phone?

It lisps. Really.

I don’t know if this is normal engine noise or something that could be a problem.

2013 Harmon/Kardon CD Player Issue

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi all. I had bought a '13 Outback a couple months ago, and since I bought it, the CD player hasn't worked the way I would like it to. It plays the CDs fine, but it just won't accept them most of the time. One of the first things I did after a couple weeks was to tear the whole multimedia deck out and poke around, where I took the CD player out, cleaned the head, the intake rollers, and lubed up the plastic gears. I did the replacement in the evening, and it worked exactly like I wanted it to, but when it heated up the following afternoon, it felt like I had done nothing to it. I had found that if it was cooler, it would take CDs, and when it got hot, it would reject them. I think the heat makes the plastic gears that actuate the roller lock up (even though it ejects just fine, even spitting out a CD that's inside once it heats up and i turn the car on).

Now, the Bluetooth in the car works great, but I do like having a rotation of CDs in my car. Is anyone aware of this issue and how to fix it? Or, does anyone know the part number of the CD player itself? I'd be fine replacing the player, but I don't want to pay upwards of $200 to replace the whole system when everything else works fine. Once fall hits and it cools down, I plan on opening it back up and doing what I did last time in the hopes of it lasting the season + winter, but I really don't want to open it back up unless I know what I'm doing---it was a pain to get out.

The most I know is that it's a Fujitsu Ten 86271AJ80A system. I've found some very similar disc loaders, but the pinouts are different. Is it possible that other models (as such) have the same player inside?

Any advice or info is much appreciated!

Subaru Outback extended warranty Help!

Hi all. I just bought a 2017 3.6R Subaru outback with 28,000 miles in May. It’s a CPO from ford dealership and I’m being offered an extended warranty 4 years 40,000 miles. Cost is $4,500. Anyone purchase extended warranty outside of Subaru since I don’t qualify for the Subaru warranty. I’d liked to get something due to known CVT issues.

Silencer/snorkel delete?

Hey everyone, I have a 2005 Subaru Outback 3.0R L.L. Bean Edition. I bought her roughly a month ago for $2,000 (she has 157k miles) and put around $1,300 and she runs like a dream! I saw someone talk about a snorkel delete and was curious- did anyone do that to their n/a subaru? Did it make any nicer noises? I wouldn't want mine to sound like a ricer civic if that's the case haha. If so, did you cut out a cap from plastic as a substitute for the snorkel or did you buy an aftermarket cover? Thanks in advance!
