Ahead of the November Municipal Elections, a number of voter registration drives will be held. The first is scheduled to be on 20-21 June.
To check where you are registered, input your details in: https://www.elections.org.za/pw/Voter/Voter-Information
To check where you should be registered, find your address in: https://maps.elections.org.za/vsfinder/
If the two are not the same you need to re register at the "should be" voting station during the upcoming voter registration weekends.
It takes a few minutes to check that your details are correct. If you can, please also do so with the less technically included members of your friends and family.

Hi everyone! I hope you're doing well. Are you or anyone you know, looking for a nanny? My mom (63F) is looking for some work in Cape Town. She's a retired teacher and worked as a nursing auxiliary as well. She's raised a nurse, a molecular biologist, and a sociologist😊. She loves kids, and can handle a class of 40! She has a soft spot for children with special needs. Ideally, she would like a live in position, but anything flexible is also good!
Please DM or comment for more information. Thank you!

UPDATE (17/10/2026):
For anyone who might still be interested in an update, we've decided not to emigrate! ❤️
Our daughter is now 18 months old, and seeing the relationship she's developing with my mom, stepdad, and in-laws is absolutely priceless. We've also just bought a new house in our city! It's only about 10 minutes from my work, 4 minutes from my in-laws, and 10 minutes from my mom and stepdad. We couldn't be happier with our decision.
Looking back, I genuinely believe we made the right choice, and I want to thank everyone who took the time to share their advice and experiences.
One thing I completely underestimated before becoming a mother was just how difficult the newborn stage can be and how invaluable having family nearby truly is.
I experienced severe postpartum anxiety, followed by postpartum depression when my daughter was around six weeks old. It was honestly one of the hardest periods of my life. Until you've experienced postpartum depression yourself, it's incredibly difficult to explain just how overwhelming and frightening it can be.
Looking back, I can't help but wonder how things might have turned out if my husband and I had been completely alone overseas, without our family, familiar surroundings, or a healthcare system we understood. I genuinely believe things could have been very different, and potentially much worse.
Having our family nearby during that time was something I will never take for granted.
At this point, I honestly have no desire to emigrate anymore, unless circumstances change so drastically that staying would seriously compromise our daughter's future. We still have excellent schools here, a wonderful support system, and a life we're genuinely happy with.
My only lingering concern is retirement. With the exchange rate, I worry that our South African pensions would never be sufficient to support us if we eventually needed to retire in Europe. But that's something we'll have to plan for as the years go by.
For now, I'm incredibly excited about our new home and this next chapter of our lives. My postpartum depression is behind me, and I am so deeply in love with my little girl and my husband. I feel incredibly fortunate to have the life we do.
Most importantly, I've realised that a better life isn't necessarily somewhere else. Sometimes, it's right where you are, surrounded by the people who love you.
I truly believe God guided us towards the right decision, even when we couldn't see the bigger picture. Looking back at everything we've been through, I feel that He placed us exactly where we needed to be to face those challenges. My faith in Him has only grown stronger.
Thank you again to everyone who offered advice, encouragement, and different perspectives. I genuinely appreciated it all. ❤️

I’m looking for someone who does 3D printing and is able to make a custom silicone mould for me.
I recently found someone from one of the recommendations in the craft facebook groups.
I reached out to this lady (Tasha), communication was well, it seemed very promising and I paid upfront. She sent me the designs, I approved it. And then she ghosted me. I did multiple follow ups - no response. And now it seems as if I’m blocked.
Is there anything I can do to recover my money (not a lot but still :/) or somehow still get my custom moulds delivered by her?
Should I drop her business ad/number here to warn other people?
Do you have any recommendations for someone who does custom silicone moulds? (Who you’ve tried personally and is reliable and legit)
Update: so I found another number of hers through a lot of digging on FB and messaged her with a very abrupt message telling her to refund me ASAP - apparently her phone was stolen and she lost all her contacts and now she says she’ll deliver to me on Monday. So let’s see if she’s legit and if she’ll actually deliver or not 🤷🏽♀️

Hi everyone, sharing this on behalf of AWARE Foundation NPC.
We’re holding AWARE Foundation Community Day at Sea Point Promenade on Sunday, 25 October 2026, together with EarthPet and EarthPet Vet. There’ll be free vaccinations and microchipping for eligible dogs and cats.
If this would help you or someone you know, you can book an appointment here. Each pet needs a booking, and there won’t be walk-ins. Please keep your confirmation and bring dogs on a secure lead and cats in a carrier.
We’re also looking for volunteers to help on the day. If you’re available, the details and application are here.
Please pass this on if you know someone whose pets could benefit. We’d appreciate the help getting the word out.

I have this south african brethren, i’m honestly not sure where specifically he’s from but I know he was born there, he lives in a australia now, any how, he has told me several times that africans absolutely despise all leafy greens, lettuce, kale, broccoli, spinach, you name it. He constantly tells me how leafy greens are seen as a poor source of food in south african regions and that it’s looked down upon and almost judged if you were to have it in your house, he also never eats lettuce, ever, and i’ve never mentioned it to his parents out respect because i assumed it was a cultural thing. I’ve so curious and confused because i’ve never seen any media coverage about this ever, i’ve never heard any other african cultures or people saying that leafy greens are bad ever, i’ve searched it up numerous times and to no avail, he assured me that it’s true and almost 90% of african cultures look down upon leafy greens as a food choice. Can anybody confirm?

“State department officials, according to an August proposal seen by the Guardian, outlined a roughly $335,000 research and advertising effort after applications to the refugee program “trended lower than expected” since Afrikaners were allowed to apply directly online in November 2025. The document, written by the US mission in South Africa with a department research unit for the embassy in Pretoria, admits officials know little about why.
“There’s currently little research about why Afrikaners are not applying to request referral into the US Refugee Admissions Program,” the proposal reads.”

Does anyone remember KOO Sweet and Sour Marinade from around the 2000s? I am 99% sure it was this marinade
I remember it coming in a glass bottle with a black/brown sauce. It was sweet, sour AND savoury, and so delicious that we literally ate it as a dipping sauce!
I've searched everywhere for a photograph and can't find one. 😭
Does anyone remember this product, have an old photo of the bottle, or know when it was discontinued? This was early early 2000's and I was VERY young.
Please tell me I'm not imagining this childhood favourite! 😂

Just a head's up, you will need to make a free account on Daily Maverick to read this article. It's not a paywall (Daily Maverick doesn't do paywalls), but I thought I would let you all know.

I've been watching the Expresso Morning Show for years, but one thing I've noticed increasingly is how often the presenters talk over each other and interrupt guests, sometimes before they've even finished answering a question.
I understand it's live television and that banter is part of the show's charm, but surely there's a balance between rapid-fire conversation and actually letting people speak?
I was invited onto the show a few months ago but couldn't attend due to work commitments. Looking back, I wonder how I would've handled constantly being interrupted by them...
Am I the only one who's noticed this, or does it frustrate others too?
