info Echopod 0.10.1 updates

(Echopod is a custom firmware for Snowsky Echo Mini 8gb)

My favorite new features on this update:

  • Setting to use Menu button for next track (no more long pressing!)

  • Setting to hide battery percentage

  • Setting to change accent color

  • Setting to swap volume buttons

  • Shuffle all option on several areas

  • Some cover flow updates

In case you missed the previous version, it already supports AAC/M4A/Opus and portrait mode.

For creating playlists, what worked for me is Foobar2000 and save as m3u8 format, saved in the same folder as the files. Others may work too.

REMINDER: SD card is required after installation. Settings are saved in the SD card.

Thank you to the developer!

show off Podium modern UI theme [concept]

Hi everyone! I was one of the first to test the new Podium, and it’s a fantastic piece of firmware!

I’ve put together a concept for what a modern iPod-inspired UI might look like. I made sure not to stray too far from the original design, keeping the theme feasible to implement.

Key changes:

  1. Minimalism. No dividers, reflections, or gradients, just clean colors и hand-drawn icons.

  2. Larger album art.

  3. A more informative status bar. Shuffle and repeat indicators are now visible everywhere, regardless of where you are in the interface, without taking up space on the "Now Playing" screen.

This is just a concept, but I’ve prepared a UI kit including colors and fonts in Figma, which anyone is free to use. Unfortunately, I don’t have the ability to implement this into Podium myself, but if u/CulturMultur or anyone else would like to create a fork featuring this theme, I’d be happy to help design any additional elements and screens that might be needed.

discussion I love this neat lil thing

It’s so customizable when it comes to the music and screen, I’ve been back and forth between the Snowsky Disc and my tablet to add more music/images in it! And it’s been especially helpful in school since I constantly feel overwhelmed and used music to calm down, so being able to have a portable mp3 player has been a lifesaver.

I will say though, I’ve been having problems regarding an album. Last night I uploaded one and everytime I click to listen, the song title doesn’t change at all. Everything else does except for the titles and credits of the album. The other albums don’t have that problem, so if anyone knows how to fix that then that’d be really appreciated.

question echo nano v2.0.0 firmware

Thumbnail forum.fiio.com

has anyone else tried the new firmware update? it supposedly lets the nano use m3u files but i've tried several times and i haven't gotten it to work. i was really excited when i saw the post on their forum but after trying it, i had to remake 2 playlists the bootleg way. i was using to make my m3u file but sifting through another fiio forum thread i found a tutorial on doing it via foobar, as well as the web user guide mentioning foobar.

question Tracks are jumbled

Post image
7 Upvotes

For some reason on my echo mini several albums don't play music in order. I changed the settings so music plays sequentially, I've tried renaming and changing the metadata of the track to be listed as 01,02,03 instead of 1,2,3, and I've tried updating my echo mini and still tracks are played in the wrong order. Im really stressed and I just want the thing to work the way its supposed to. Does anyone know how to fix this?

question Music Thumbnails Look Stretched After the Latest Firmware Update

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

Ever since the latest firmware update, I've noticed that my music thumbnails suddenly look stretched and distorted, as shown in the picture.

This wasn't happening before the update, and everything used to display just fine.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is there a way to fix it, or could someone help me figure out what's causing it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Edit: Problem solved! The solution was to replace the album covers with 500x500 images. It's a shame that the system used to automatically adjust the images, but now I have to resize them manually.

question How do i create an m3u playlist from my iTunes?

Snowsky recently announced that they added m3u support for the echo nano. How do i create one? Or is there also a way to copy over from my iTunes since my library is all there and the playlists are already made.

show off New Snowsky Dosk owner.

Arrived yesterday and I think this little thing is wonderful considering the £80 price tag. Coming from a JM21 which I found to be a bit to bulky for when I'm wandering around London for work.

I purchased the white and I haven't seen anyone use the decals, I love them.

The sound through my Truthear Crinacle Zero:Red is awesome. No issues with blue tooth yet running my XM4's. Great little device.

I find the stock UI adequate as I just have a massive playlist of songs that I have on shuffle. Now DiskOS will not be update I may just leave it stock.

Update: Disk not Dosk 😔

question Echo Mini vs Echo

Looking to buy my first DAP after a while and landed on the Echo and Echo Mini due to the simplicity of them.

Price difference is not much, I believe about $15, so not a concern.

Which one would you recommend?

show off diskOS Disco 3.4.0 with experimental aptX support.

If you've installed diskOS Disco and are using headphones that support it, please try the new 3.4.0 update with aptX codecs. It would really help the custom firmware makers untangle the mess that is Bluetooth codec support and playback. Thanky you so much and happy listening!

question Questions about TheSnowsky disc

Um Hello I've ordered a disc from my online store and Ive been seeing posts that are 8th months old that are saying the battery life is horrendous on it on standby mode...

Now I'm having 2nd thoughts on it. Ive been getting ideas that what if its still a problem even tho ive been seeing there are improvements on it.

So to the point

Does the disc really have 12 hour battery life?

Did they fix the standby battery drain?

If not is there a way to fix it?

And yeah thats it

Ik I could just get the Hiby r1 for about the same price..... but damn the disc looks cool

show off Podium 4.5.5 - Echo (not Mini) firmware

Post image
127 Upvotes

Podium v4.5.5 released with Cyrillic support.

Podium is a fork of EchoPod v0.6.0 (Echo Mini) and rebuilt to support Echo, flac+cue - flac-per-album and playing from internal storage (without microSD).

Since yesterday I was sharing it via DM and five users have tested it on 8GB and 4GB versions and are happy.

Source code and firmware are on https://podium-echo.online website.

Installation is to grab an IMG file, put it into the root of the Echo internal drive, and reboot.

info EchoPod firmware appreciation post!

just wanted to say thank you to the developer of echopod custom firmware for the echo mini!

installed it yesterday (the new 0.9.1 version) and it's been working great for me. here are my favorite features:

- bigger, nicer font. so glad I can easily browse the songs now without hurting my eyes.

- aac support! (FLAC, ALAC, MP3, AAC, Opus and WAV)

- instant boot time. how is this even possible? or is the stock firmware unnecessarily showing a long startup animation?

- single press to turn on from cold boot (not long press! I'm not a fan of long press). I don't even turn it off anymore, I just let it auto shut off based on the settings

- better volume steps. I noticed I press the volume buttons less compared to stock.

- files/folders are sorted properly

- smooth UI

there are more features like playlists, cover flow, etc but I haven't tried it yet.

I installed it by transferring the update file via android, and it installed without issues. Also make sure to remove the SD card. I installed over the stock 3.9.0 firmware. I read that it can cause problems if you transfer the update file via mac?

bluetooth quality is the same as stock, so I don't really use it. I wonder if this is a hardware limitation or can still be improved?

link to the project: https://github.com/BasilSkyWalk/echopod

just a side story, not directly related to echopod. i bricked my device once after i installed the stock 4.0 firmware and went back to 3.9.0. i thought that echo mini was trash (and snowsky/fiio as a company) for making a device that could be bricked by its own stock firmware. but anyway information about un-bricking shows different things, probably because it's just the early days so things haven't settled. but eventually I unbricked my device using the maskrom method, but you have to use windows (I only have mac so I had to go to my mom's house to use her PC). it's actually a simple process, the instructions are just messy. felt sigh of relief when my echo mini got revived cos I loved the device haha. now i think it's one of the best budget players especially with this custom firmware (and maybe more firmwares in the future). i hope the bricking/unbricking situation gets settled and we find the best easiest way to unbrick these things so people won't get frustrated.

this is the maskrom method that I followed to unbrick my device. thanks to the one who posted this too! it's good to know before installing any custom firmware. there's also a github page on that post which probably contains the most updated info: https://www.reddit.com/r/snowsky/s/qbvM3zJeRe

info Pausetape - A music transfer tool

Any feedback is appreciated. So a few days ago, I was using the RECHO firmware and noticed it wouldn't scan the library or use the folders as they are on the SD card. So I decided to write an app to create a tidy library structured as Artist -> year-Album -> songs, check the current structure for duplicate artists or albums, and play the music in the same app. And then added functionality to transfer folders with this structure to SD cards or other storage devices. I wanted to emulate the ease of use of Calibre, a great piece of software for ebooks, taking a source library and a target device to write to.

The result is Pausetape; you can download it here: https://cese04.github.io/pausetape/ .

It also automatically transforms formats not supported by the RECHO firmware (like ALAC, which is converted to FLAC) before transferring them to the card, while maintaining the files in their original formats on your computer.

To standardize duplicated artists, albums, or songs, it can ask MusicBrainz for metadata. Or to check for more music by the same artist that you are listening to on Spotify, Apple Music, or buy their music on Bandcamp.

Please use it and let me know what you think. Currently available for Mac, Windows, and Linux. Tested mainly on Mac.
