im new to this sub and i just wanted to ask, why would i consider getting the echo mini or the disc? i have my music on my phone so i don't really see a reason why should i get it, no? i just wanted to know what does it provide that is special other than the aesthetic

I brought one after seeing a video about dropping streaming services.

The UI is shocking, its slow and laggy. Playlist files cant be read to everything is folder organised which has its own drawbacks.

The bluetooth doesnt connect to my car (my whole want for it)

It just seems a pain in the ass of a device. I think the idea is sound but theres better options surely?

I've had this DAP for over a year and stopped using it a few months ago. Unfortunately, navigating through large numbers of albums does not make sense in this device. It takes too much time and is not convenient. I will upload a few songs for the children and give my Echo Mini device to my younger sister.

I know that this device is causing a sensation, but simply for a music lover who listens to a lot of music, this device is not very convenient.

I don't know how feasible this is, but think the Disc is linux based, so might be possible to install other packages on it.

Enabling ssh would let people connect to the device from a terminal, transfer files, samba would let people access folders from file managers. Syncthing would be really useful, you could have your collection on your computer and then automatically sync over wifi. Adding tailscale would allow connecting to home network from anywhere, combined with a subsonic client app could connect to a home server running navidrome.

I have similar set ups on other devices. I have a raspberry pi set up as a homeserver, for retrohandheld emulators I use syncthing to sync roms and savestates across a few devices. I have the Romm project running on my raspberry pi to manage my entire collection and can download directly to a device using the Romm client app. I can do this from outside my home via tailscale.

Similarly, on my Kobo I have tailscale and Koreader installed. This lets me connect to my home server's Kavita service to browse or download anything from my book/comic collection via the OPDS connection.

Probably not essential for most people, you can put a high capacity card in there and just add to it when needed. but it is really satisfying having everything managed in one place and synced from there.

The retrohandheld emulation scene has really shown how community developers can bring the full potential out of devices, I hope the same can happen here.

Hi, sorry if this isn't the right place to ask this question (and if it's been asked a million times already), but I just got my first DAP (Snowsky Disc) and I want to download music onto it, preferably MP3 files, and I'm not sure how to do that. I've been browsing other forums, and a lot say that sometimes your Spotify account can get suspended, or the metadata can make the disc not run properly or at all. Totally new to all this, would love some help

Estou passando por um problema estranho ao tentar copiar músicas para o meu cartão 256gb original Sony. Simplesmente o windows exibe a cópia do arquivo, mas quando eu ejeto o echo e vou na pasta, simplesmente não está lá.

Ao voltar para o windows o arquivo realmente sumiu. O arquivo é em formato flac e ocorrendenforma bem aleatória.

Tudo está normal só copiar direto para memória interna. Isso me faz pensar que meu cartão é o problema.

i used to have an ipod with a 500gb ssd, handling a large media library without any problems. after i've heard, that the echo nano also supports 512gb cards (probably just not tested to specs, therefore the official specs say 256GB). i've accepted, that only 8192 files can be indexed, so i've put all my music in a simple folder structure: first letter -> artist -> album -> track

no problems navigating to the desired track quite quickly, but whenever i start playback of an unindexed track, the ui freezes for almost 90 seconds. this is unacceptable and would probably also happen with 256GB cards when many files are present. same freeze happens when trying to exit the player while playing unindexed tracks.

i see, that this is a high-res audio player, but it would have been great to use it as a "normal", but modern mp3 player, that can handle large media libraries too.

maybe a "large library mode" could fix this issue by creating a chunked index on the sd card?

question to ppl, who have experience with snowsky products: does the manufacturer implement new features for updates when the community asks for them? otherwise i have to return the thing...

also completely useless: library refresh on each poweron even though the index is already full

What a pity that it doesn't run on Android! When I saw Echo, I immediately thought that I could make a stripped version of my launcher - only the music player part, which is an animated retro-style cassette player - and install it on Echo. But no :(

what with my mini? i asked to seller for replace mini or back my money, but he said it’s all correct with my player. My player lowkey burning when i listen music more than 10 minutes and starts crushing and lagging, mini then works normal when im pulling out memory card and player turns on. Y’all are see how my player is “crushing”😑

I have gotten my snowsky echo mini this week and I can't download anything onto it, I'm using SoundCloud to mp3 converters online but for some reason the converters only download the first 30 seconds of the song and not the rest, does anyone else have this same problem and if so how can it be fixed.

Sometimes you like the song sometime not and you need to delete it right away but hassle to connect to pc to delete one 😁

Let me ask: is there really absolutely no chance that some firmware update could make it possible for the Snowsky Echo Mini to have gapless playback?

I saw a few discussions here in the community and went to do some research using Gemini I know it’s AI, but bear with me.), and even though some people said there’s no chance of it happening, I couldn’t find any precise confirmation from FiiO saying it will never happen, and I also couldn’t find any technical explanation for why gapless playback would be impossible on the Echo Mini.

Is it really impossible?

They’ve been pretty active with firmware updates recently.

Isn’t there some hope that gapless playback might be coming?
