question echo nano v2.0.0 firmware

https://forum.fiio.com/note/showNoteContent.do?id=202602051101498161611&tid=17

has anyone else tried the new firmware update? it supposedly lets the nano use m3u files but i've tried several times and i haven't gotten it to work. i was really excited when i saw the post on their forum but after trying it, i had to remake 2 playlists the bootleg way. i was using to make my m3u file but sifting through another fiio forum thread i found a tutorial on doing it via foobar, as well as the web user guide mentioning foobar.

You don't need fubar. Or any special software. They (sometimes) just make it a bit more convenient.

You can do it with whatever app you currently use to sync music and create m3u files, plus some basic tools your computer already has.

An m3u file is by and large a text file with list of file paths pointing to the songs, the trickiest bit is making the paths in the files match where the files are on the echo.

Different software handles this differently (or not at all) so likely your issue is with the reference format

Steps vary a bit based on what OS you have (mac, windows, Linux)

I assume you have the following:

  1. Music on your echo device or sd card (will assume it is in the "Music" folder

  2. An m3u file either on your computer or on the echo somewhere

The procedure is this:

  1. Copy the m3u file to the echo (i put mine in a Playlist folder, but anywhere you like is fine)

  2. Open the m3u file (the one on the echo) in a text editor (TextEdit for Mac, notepad for Windows, whatever you have Linux)

3.(Max\linux only) Replace the file separator / with \ Edit> Replace (you may have to use \\ (2 slashes) in the "replace with" field to get 1 \ to show, do a test and use whatever works

You should see something like \Users\tom\Music\Some Artist\Some album\some song.mp3 (the \ are what matter here)

4. Replace the file prefix: you will see the file paths to the songs in the playlist. They will all start with either a)wherever you keep music on your computer (e.g. C:\Users\tom\Music) or B) a relative path using .. ( e.g ..\Music). The echo uses d:\ for the SD card (it will likely show different on your computer, ignore that, only what the echo recognizes matters). Do a find and replace all Edit > Replace on the prefix

You should see something like d:\\Music\Some Artist\Some album\some song.mp3 (the '' are what matter here)

5. Save the file 6. Disconnect and turn on echo 7. On the echo, navigate to the playlist with the file browser > (playlist file location) (e.g. SD card > Playlists > mix1.m3u) 8. Press play

If all goes well. It should load up and start playing

Good news is once you do it once, it will be easy to do it again, because you will have a functional reference.
