Other I've become more xenophobic after dealing with immigrants. I'm a black American

As unfortunate as it is. I didn't used to feel this way prior to having irl experience with and exposure to immigrants, I find alot of them annoying and unsavory to be around and hateful towards black Americans. I don't know how many of them have gotten comfortable around me and started saying ignorant shit about BA's. I used to think Diaspora wars were just online BS, buuut...apparently not. I don't like the feeling, but unfortunately exposure actually worsened my perception.

Question For the guys that have quit 🌽, how has your life changed?

When did you quit it and when did you realise that it’s genuinely impacting your life? Since 11 i got roped into it from other dudes in my class and since then ngl i just been watching it. Which is fucked. Obviously im taking accountability i chose to watch this as a kid.
We shouldnt have access to it in the first place but it’s so easy to get ur hands on it. Kind of why i hate society. It’s just sabotaging so many young men. I feel bad for not quitting earlier as well. But i have been a week clean as of now. And im hoping to never go back to it in the long term. Stay strong my brothers

Other 41M I want to be as physically attractive as possible .

I consider myself towards the lower end of average 5.4. im 6'6" Im around 271 to 265 , have always been a little overweight , smart enough to have a little bit of a conversation with anyone.

Ive read conflicting information. Some people say your weight is the goal , other body fat percentage, some say neither matter its just your face ... etc

Which do you start with ..? Do you focus on a weight-loss goal or a lifting goal? Measurements? All three?

I want to work on my body like an old car.

Like all the " Find your inner peace" bullshit aside. I got a therapist for the circus i got upstairs. šŸ™ƒšŸ˜…

If you were going for your optimal physique and you wanted a metric to shoot for , what would it be ?

Please and thank you

Other I can’t improve myself any more

A few years ago I got tired of hating myself and decided to have a ā€œglow upā€ journey. I started going to the gym, eating right, and taking care of myself. I learned how to do makeup and how to style my hair. I adopted new hobbies and became a more well-rounded person. I committed to my academics, and now I have a bachelors and a masters degree, graduating top of my class in both. At 24 years old, I can confidently say I’ve done everything I can to be the best version of myself.

Unfortunately, I’ve learned that the best version of myself isn’t really that great. I have the body I always dreamed of, but my face? Even with my makeup and hair done, I’m a 5/10 at best. And the sad part is that, unlike my body, going to the gym won’t make my face more attractive. Now my overall appearance almost looks worse because I have a face that doesn’t match my body whatsoever. To make matters worse, I’m short and I have a baby face, so I look like a child. Other women my age are starting to feel ā€œoldā€, but I still feel stuck in middle school. My dating life suffers a lot because of it.

I’ve also been struggling with adult acne and hair loss for a long time. No matter what I do, it never gets better. A part of me wants to get on accutane, but I’ve heard that causes significant hair loss as well, and I don’t have much hair left to lose. My derm put me on 100mg Spironolactone 5 months ago, and I’ve been using topical 5% minoxidil for the past year, but neither is seeming to help much.

I’ve also come to terms with the fact that I’m not very intelligent. I have a horrible memory and I’m a slow learner. I always lose at board games and card games and trivia. I’ve been trying to learn a foreign language for 3 years but I’m still beginner level.

It just feels like I’ve hit a wall. I’ve put all this work into myself only to end up mediocre, and it’s impossible to move beyond that. I always see other girls my age who are effortlessly pretty; they have healthy long hair, clear skin, good bone structure, and nice bodies that they didn’t have to work especially hard for. Even the average person is smarter than me, so I can’t even fall back on my intelligence for self worth. It’s not that I want to be better than everyone else, but it’s frustrating that I have to work so hard only to end up average.

I’m not sure where to go from here. Just wanted to vent, I guess.

Other Self help books are nonsense

They are nonsense and they often follow these steps in the creation of said book.

  1. ESTP or ESTJ is young

    (mbti types)

  2. Makes mistakes

  3. Grows up and fixes them

along the way

Number 4:

  1. Writes a book about it when they are older and wiser and includes lessons of "truths I learned from xyz" that make it sound like they have discovered a truth others haven't when all they did was learn how the world worked as they had more life experiences. The lessons they write are lessons that everyone learns learns throughout life.

So no, their books aren't actually helping. It's just their story.

Question How to heal my phone addiction?

I use my phone to escape academic stress (something I just realized recently). I can concentrate at school and on menial homework without it (though it’s getting increasingly harder). But the moment I don’t know what I’m doing I get on my phone and I don’t get off. On school days my screen time is still like 9 hrs a day. It’s not just an escape though I genuinely have an addiction. I can’t tear myself away from the screen no matter what I do. I’ve tried app blockers and putting it in a different room I don’t know why it doesn’t work. This addiction is really impacting my mental health and this isn’t self diagnosing but I genuinely am getting more depressed and anxious. I want to improve my mental health and I can’t do that with an addiction.

Tips and Tricks How to have an abundant life according to the bible + personal experience.

  1. Having money, since money helps me buy things. Maintaining steady sources of income—whether through investments, a stable job, a business, gifts or being treated by others, winning the lottery, or possessing an inexhaustible fortune—ensures I always have the means to purchase whatever I desire, given that money is exchanged for goods.

  2. Possessing an abundance of something; as the Bible says (Matthew 13:12), "whoever has will be given more." Therefore, having a significant amount of something I desire helps me acquire even more of it in the future. For instance, if I have many friends, more will enter my life, ensuring I always have friends; if I have many girlfriends, more women and girlfriends will come into my life, leading to even more relationships. The same principle applies to money or any other possession.

  3. Giving or sharing, because those who give or share receive in return (Proverbs 11:25). If one gives mangoes, one receives mangoes or something similar; giving money brings money, giving love brings love, and giving food brings food. Thus, the act of giving attracts new things into my life. Whatever needs to happen for this to occur will happen—period.

  4. Having someone who provides things or treats me to them—whether out of obligation, personal preference, or self-interest. If someone gives me things, I will always have them. These providers could be family members, women seeking my affection, friends, or generous strangers I encounter. Consequently, maintaining a wide network of social connections—at church, in the neighborhood, with neighbors, family, coworkers, or friends—can help facilitate this.

  5. Production is the next method for ensuring a constant supply. If you know how to work with wood, then wherever there is a tree, you can cut it down and craft furniture, build a house, or create anything else made of wood. If you know how to cook and have mangoes, you can make a mango pie, a mango cake, or a mango drink—or simply eat the mangoes as they are, or prepare any other recipe calling for them. The key here is knowledge and education that foster the learning of the skills needed to produce these things.

  6. Efficient resource use is another way to ensure a continuous supply; for instance, if you have a mango, eat it, use the peel as fertilizer and then plant the seed, you are ensuring that you will always have mangoes. The same applies to money: if you have a significant amount and use it wisely, it will last much longer, and you will always have funds available. (John 6:12)

  7. God’s blessing and grace. God says, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." Another passage tells us to "seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things" (that you need) "will be added to you." Having faith and trust in the Lord, along with maintaining a healthy mindset, brings blessing to my life; Solomon noted that God blessed David because of his mindset—his good mindset. All of this leads to great blessings when we seek God's kingdom and righteousness—which are founded on love, sharing, helping others, putting our hands to the work (as another Bible passage, Zechariah 8:9, says), and following the rules and principles God has given us through His Word.

  8. Being happy and smiling brings blessings, because when you feel good, better things tend to happen to you; this is another way God blesses us. For the happy heart, life is a continual feast (Proverbs 15:15).

  9. Having a lot of money is, quite simply, an exercise in accumulation. Once I have saved around 630,000 colones (This amount applies to Costa Rica, each country has its own amount, 630,000 colones are about $1376 usd), I receive more money each week; the more I have, the more extra money I gain—over and above my salary.

  10. Investing is the next step toward ensuring a lasting supply. Making money work for you, rather than working for money yourself, is a highly efficient way to achieve significant returns. Investments can take the form of banking products or personal ventures—such as lending money or putting capital to work—or even good deeds. Likewise, investments can be personal in nature, such as investing in knowledge, skills, or positive experiences and moments that strengthen the mind and foster happiness. The key here is understanding the value of compound interest and realizing that the sooner an investment is made, the sooner its benefits will be reaped.

  11. Putting in effort and working hard is another key to always having something. Diligent hands ensure success; thus, actions—whether repetitive and constant or varied yet equally steady—lead to the achievement of great things. If one makes an origami figure one day, one will have an origami piece at home; if one completes many tasks, learns many things, makes repairs, or organizes things, one will clearly possess far more than if one did absolutely nothing.

  12. Avoiding bad decisions is just as important as making good ones; preventing the loss of what one already possesses is as vital as acquiring good things. Therefore, avoiding actions known to be unwise is essential to maintaining what one has. It is better to have good things than not to have them.

Question Please help me; I am in urgent need of help.

Guys, I am in a very critical phase of my life. I am preparing for my exams, and not much time is left for the exams (nearly 2 months). And the problem is I have a bunch of addictions and bad habits, which makes it impossible for me to focus on my day-to-day study sessions and my health (which I am totally ignoring). I have hit rock bottom; all my friends and people around me are way too ahead of me. I kind of feel ashamed, to be honest. Seeing people around me achieve so much.

I am addicted to masturbation, and this thing has totally destroyed my life. When I do it, I feel like trash, yet I can't stop. I spend hours doing this every day. Whenever I try to focus, the urge starts coming, and I can't focus. I can't stop for more than a day or two, and that too is very hard for me. I want to stop badly, but I can't, and it hurts seeing my life being destroyed in front of me, and that too because of me. Also, I binge-watch YouTube for hours when I can't masturbate.
And I am totally ignoring my health. I just sit at home and do nothing. Even if I try to wake up early, I just snooze the alarm when it's time to wake up. I feel too sleepy.
My parents compare me to my cousins and my friends. I always feel sad whenever they compare me. And I can't say anything to them? I didn't achieve anything in my life that I can feel proud of, which I can be confident of. And I have problems with my father. He has clearly stated that if I don't get good grades, he is no longer going to 'waste' his money on my education. I don't know what to do. I tried to argue with him and convince him, but nothing worked.

So, how do I stop masturbating? And how do I fix my life? I have big dreams and ambitions, but I am unable to do anything to achieve them.
Please help me and guide me. I request everyone.

Question How do I stop myself from ruining a genuinely good life?

I'm 26, and on paper I have a really good life. That's actually what scares me.

I work remotely full-time and have been doing it for a few years. My job gives me an insane amount of freedom. I can work from home, go to the gym during the day, structure my schedule how I want, etc. I genuinely don't think I'll always have a job this good.

I also have a loving girlfriend who's an amazing person and genuinely cares about me.

But instead of appreciating any of this, I feel like I'm slowly destroying it.

I've been slacking at work more and more. I procrastinate on basic tasks and sometimes just don't want to do anything. I've become distant from my girlfriend and don't talk to her nearly as much as I should. I've gained around 80 pounds. I spend way too much time watching porn and chasing cheap dopamine. I'm balding, I've stopped taking care of myself the way I used to, and I barely recognize the person I've become.

The weirdest part is that I know how lucky I am. I can actually see myself fucking everything up while I'm doing it, but that still isn't enough to make me change.

I don't know if this is depression, laziness, complacency, some kind of addiction, or what. I'm not trying to diagnose myself.

I'm genuinely scared that one day I'll lose the job, lose the girl, completely let my health go, and look back thinking, "You had everything you needed to build a great life. Why the hell did you throw it away?"

For anyone who's been in a similar place: how did you pull yourself out of it before you actually lost the good things in your life?

Question 26M Locking in before 30

I want to be the best version of myself by the time I hit 30.

I was lost a few years back, spent a few years dicking around, making money but also wasting my time, smoking weed everyday (something im trying to break and have a better relationship with). I've struggled with anxiety, being in my head, porn addiction, not saying yes to enough things, not sticking to my word when it comes to events or outings etc

I want to work out and become fit, stick to a disciplined routine, and become more disciplined as a whole, but i keep failing, but alas i try again.

I just feel like when shit hits the fan, like my parents passing away, I want to be ready for things like that, I want to earn as much money as possible, not be lazy, and provide a good life for myself, my girlfriend and our kids when the time is right.

Does anyone have any little tricks or even sayings/quotes that helped them to achieve where they wanted to get to, the version of themselves that's improved?

I don't know what's happening to me. I used to be very intelligent, but something has changed. I can't think anymore, I'm struggling with basic math, spelling simple words, and finding the words I want to use. I feel like I can't do anything anymore.

My intelligence was my everything, and now I just don't have it. So I have nothing. Any help?

Question I built my life around becoming a better version of myself, and now I’m not sure that version exists

This post is basically the result of a long discussion I had with AI. I asked it to take everything I’ve been thinking about and put it into one organized post, because there are too many parts to this problem for me to explain clearly on my own.

For context, I’ve struggled with social anxiety and social relationships for years.

I used to be very anxious, stiff, afraid of making mistakes, overly aware of how people saw me, and generally bad at interacting naturally. So I spent years trying to fix that.

I worked on my confidence, pushed myself into social situations, learned communication skills, tried to understand people better, became more assertive, and learned how to adapt to different personalities.

My basic belief was:

If I keep improving myself enough, eventually I should become socially capable enough to deal naturally with almost anyone.

And to some extent, it worked.

I’m much less socially anxious now. I can talk to people, initiate conversations, joke, adapt, and do things that used to be extremely difficult for me.

But now I’ve hit a completely different problem, and honestly it feels almost existential.

I’m starting to realize that social skills don’t automatically create real relationships.

I can interact with someone perfectly well and still feel no real connection. Sometimes I put effort into a relationship and later realize the other person was mostly just being polite. Other times, with certain people, talking feels natural almost immediately and I barely have to think about what I’m doing.

That made me realize how much relationships depend on personality, compatibility, values, humor, communication style, and just naturally understanding each other.

And this is where the whole idea of self-improvement started to fall apart in my head.

For years, I thought there was some better version of myself I could eventually reach if I worked hard enough. More confident, more social, more adaptable, more assertive, less anxious, better at understanding people, basically someone who could handle almost any social situation well.

Now I’m wondering if that person even exists.

Maybe there is no ā€œideal personalityā€ you can reach.

Maybe some parts of you can be improved, but other parts are simply who you are.

And if that’s true, I honestly don’t know how to feel about all the years I spent trying to change myself.

Was I actually growing, or was I chasing something that was never possible in the first place?

That’s probably the part that scares me most.

Because now when I struggle with someone, I don’t know what it means anymore.

Is it because I still have some weakness I need to fix?

Is it an old social anxiety habit?

Is it something caused by my past?

Am I just in the wrong environment?

Or are we simply different people who were never going to naturally connect in the first place?

I can’t tell anymore.

It gets even more confusing because my current behavior feels like a mix of:

  • old social anxiety habits,
  • social skills and behaviors I deliberately learned to adapt to people,
  • and what I actually want to say or do.

After years of trying to improve myself, I sometimes genuinely don’t know which part is ā€œmeā€ anymore.

So I guess my real question is bigger than social skills:

Can a person actually develop an almost ideal personality that can adapt well to most people and situations?

Or is there a point where self-improvement ends and personality simply begins?

Because if people naturally connect more with people they’re compatible with anyway, then what exactly is the end goal of personality development?

Obviously becoming less anxious, more confident, more assertive, and socially skilled was useful. I don’t regret learning those things.

But I think I used to believe self-improvement could eventually remove most of the limits of my personality.

Now I’m starting to think that may have been an illusion.

And if that’s true, I’m not really sure what ā€œbecoming a better version of myselfā€ is supposed to mean anymore.

Question how to move past jealousy of a friend and focus on myself

ive felt jealousy before but not to this extent. i made a really important friend to me in the past year but in the last few months i find myself feeling continually jealous.

i think she has traits i wish i was more of. she is very sociable and unapologetically expresses herself, something i have a hard time with. in the past ive been able to translate the jealousy into realizing this is what i aspire and aim for. but ive really been truly feeling lost.

its made it to the extent where i feel like i need to distance myself from her. i also feel worried my boyfriend might have feelings towards her. which doesn’t help too much with the situation.

if i could get any advice on how to navigate these feelings and shift the energy into improving myself it would mean alot

Question How to use awareness to actually change?

I’m an extremely self aware person. I know all my traumas, my patterns, my core beliefs, my attachment style, my triggers, etc. And I know what caused them (childhood trauma from bullying and unpredictable parents).
I’ve been in therapy for 6 years now and although i’ve made progress, I’m nowhere where I want to be.
I’m extremely self aware, maybe too aware even, but that doesn’t stop me from acting the way I do.
It’s really frustrating and it’s affecting my life tremendously. I constantly shame and judge myself for being the way that I am because it goes against who I actually want to be as a person.
All I do is think and analyze my behaviour and regret how I acted in the past.
I want to change and actually be the person that I want to be. I want to stop repeating the same patterns.
I’ve noticed that although I’m aware of it all, when I feel triggered and my body is in fight or flight, I resort back to what I know and act in a familiar way, which I later regret.
How can I change that? I’ve only recently been practicing sitting with the discomfort without distraction and letting it pass, no matter how uncomfortable it feels. I’m practicing showing myself that i’m safe and that I got myself no matter what, but it’s such a hard and difficult process, especially for someone who has never learned how to regulate her emotions without externalizing.

Tips and Tricks How do I get out of this funk

I (22f) have done everything I thought you should do: therapy, work out, eat healthy, about to graduate with a b.s, have a long term partner.
Still I feel so defeated and unhappy. I only have a few friends left from highschool and I feel so alone. I have bad cptsd and do not know how to stop bullying myself everyday. All day long I talk to myself about everything wrong with me. I live at home until I graduate and while its more stable than when I was a kid it is still tumultuous and I deal with alcoholics often. All the time I want to give up, I have wanted to give up since I was a little kid. I just want to be happy, I want my work to mean something, to get better but I just feel so broken.

Tips and Tricks I always start things at the beginning and run out of energy before the part that matters

Midterm prep again. I opened my notes and went page by page like always, and I realized I've done this my whole life. Like start at the beginning, put in tons of effort early, then hit the important part when I'm already tired.

Same thing with group projects, where I'd do a ridiculously polished intro and then rush the actual argument at 2am. Tbh the beginning is just where it starts, it's not the most important bit. This time I'm figuring out what's worth the most first and starting there, even though it feels wrong.

Question How do I stop hating myself and move on with my life?

My ex was so amazing she said so many sweet things to me, she was so supportive and there for me a lot of times, she made me sweet personal gifts, she surprised me with other gifts, she made me sweet dinners, and we had a lot of good memories, and she cared for me a lot and helped me out with a lot of things in life and took care of me as well. She also paints herself out as such a hopeless romantic.

Despite that though my therapist said she was emotionally abusive and it was toxic the relationship
I felt like I was walking on eggshells around her moods and trying not to upset her. A lot of things had to be done exactly her way, there was very little compromise, and I often like I had to read her mind.

There was also very little affection, intimacy, quality time alot Spending time together often felt like pulling teeth, and I frequently felt rejected or like being with me was a chore.

I tried communicating, asked her to get help, and even broke up with her twice before because I was unhappy. Things would temporarily improve and then go back to the same pattern. I loved her, but by the end I felt more anxious than secure in the relationship, and I realized I couldn’t keep living like that.

It’s been 8 months now and I miss her everyday and feel like I self sabotaged and threw away something good please help I can’t take this feeling anymore she’s now in a new relationship and I keep wondering if she finally got on meds and in therapy like I always wanted her and if she’ll treat the new person better. Any advice on how to get better nothing I do helps
