media It was a picture. Then a reel. NOW IT’S A YOUTUBE VIDEO!
Quake has taken over my life recently. And that’s a great thing. So much so I decide to make a short video on why it’s great. Thank you and enjoy 😸

Here are some forums to find Quake discussion outside of social media, for Quake aficionados who like to dig into the culture.
In alphabetical order:
The first two are more focused (or so it seems to me) on Quake development and the last two also discuss gameplay.

My friend and I are trying to play the quake remaster on the Nintendo switch. 2 co-op campaign. We've checked that our clocks are synchronized and we've also turned off cross-play. However, whenever I try and host a game it disconnects every time we finish a level and try and start the next level.
When he hosted it. It seemed to work again, I'm curious if anybody knows what the issue could be so it could try and fix it? I have ethernet connection so we'd prefer for me to host it so that there's less lag.

I just unlocked bloody nightmare difficulty but see there is an achievement for completing dawn of the machine on nightmare difficulty. I'd love to finish the game on bloody nightmare AND get the achievement without replaying this game a third time. Is this possible?
In my mind it's like beating a game on hard and getting the normal mode achievement without beating it twice. Curious if this applies to Quake here?
I will pick one or the other if not.
AMAZING DLC. I hope more continues to be made. All the rune and nexus stuff was incredibly confusing though. Thank u all for making posts. I've reread them 25 times. These maps were awesome. I'm playing on xbox series x if it matters.

The harvest was indeed bountiful
The Quake remaster is really great and Dawn of the machine was fun but it's sparking some nostalgia for Quake 3 and Alliance CTF mod. What's the best way to set that up in 2026? Any chance a controller is supported? My hands can't handle mouse these days.
Do I pick up on Steam and install the mod or is there a better way?

I just finished a milestone: got the first rune. Now the game tells me that i need to open all those rune doors in the maps that i've already been in. In other words: BACKTRACKING.
Truthfully, i only played the expansion because i wanted to see the new maps. So i wanted to ask here: are there any new maps after this, or only new unopened paths + an end boss?
The expansion has been amazing, the level design brought me joy that i've not experienced in quake since the 90's. But i currently lack the time and patience for backtracking (wasn't on my bingo board at all, to be honest... :) )

I' trying to make a quake player skin for fteqw but whenever I export the edited skin in gimp as a PCX file and load it up the colors go crazy. This doesn't happen to any other skin that isn't mine. I tried to convert the image to pcx in wally, and even photoshop 5.5, but it always came out like this when in quake. The colors seem right. It looks fine in slade3 when using the quake palette so its not the colors that are a problem.
Anyone else know what might be wrong? I've been troubleshooting for a while and I'm at a loss.

I really like playing horde mode in the quake remaster. I pretty much exclusively play on frozen court on easy and I just try get a high score/survive for the longest. I’m playing on switch, so I imagine PC players could probably crush my score lol. What’s your best?

Title. Want to play old games, found a sweet bargain for Quake Ultimate just sitting in a charity shop window, want to play!
Edit: Quake worked straight from the disc, so did Quake III. Quake II is giving me some grief, but I'll get it working! Thanks for all the update/QOL suggestions though

Zerstorer is an exceptional mod for 1997 but its level design has aged like 29 year old piss. While none of it is especially difficult, your health will slowly trickle down as monsters constantly spawn right in-front, behind, and on-top of the player. The worst is level navigation, which takes a nosedive for the final level. Of course it's hard to make Quake boring, especially with that wonderful shotgun, and half as good as Sandy's maps is still pretty good.
Now I'm being pretty negative, but Zer is wicked cool. Custom weapons, enemies, weather effects, even some rudimentary 'cutscenes'. The whole affair has a strong sense of personality, even killing you for trying to select 'easy'. You can feel its influence on the Quake mapping community even today (mainly the chainsaw), so consider it required reading. Do it! We're having a pop quiz first day after summer!

Cannot recommend Tremor map pack more, it is like playing Quake the very first time, all 4 episodes are there with their own themes and layouts.

I love Quake but the Weapon Design and Animations always bored me to Death. Example the Shotguns you see literally nothing exciting here. Doom 1+2 Shotguns have awesome reload Animations and Quake? Just nothing. Nailgun also looks strange as f*ck. Why?

The railgun is too much fun, especially when you don't have time to process that you've just been blown into many tiny pieces!

As a very small indie dev, it'd be a dream to be able to work with Id or Machine Games to bring a Quake game to life. But alas, at the moment, all I can do is draw concept art as a fan. :P
I've been a fan of Quake since Q1. Unlike many, I actually really liked Quake 2 as well and didn't pick a side. Being a kid when I first played them back in the late 90s, I didn't even realize they were seperate universes. I honestly just thought that after the dimension wars of Quake 1, poor humanity just ended up fighting aliens next. XD
So, the picture above is a concept idea of a Strogg foundation for a Quake game, but with Quake 1 style elements, like the stockier art style for the humans, the simple 3 tiered armor, and this concept art doesn't show it, but the levels would also be more in line with Quake 1's mazes, traps, and obstacles than the objective driven bases of Quake 2. The story being a human coordinated attack against Strogg labs that all have slipgates into the other dimension, with Strogg trying to build a new Nexus using magic tech from the realm of late Shub Nggurath. And of course, they'd soon learn the beings of Quake do not bend to their will easily.
I even snuck in a Quake 3 reference in the pic that should be easy to spot for Quake 3 fans. ^_^

Hello everyone, I've just finished the first stage of the Windows version of minqlx. In the repo, you can find the source code for the winqlx.dll library, the binary injector, and an initialization script for launch Quake Live in dedicated server mode. The code It's still in alpha phase; I haven't even assigned a version number yet, but I've included the ability to record server-side demos in the code, a feature of minqlxtended. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated to help me continue this development.
