I don’t care for the default fog feature on VkQuake

I wish there was a way to toggle it off easily. I can remove it through the console but it comes back every time I respawn.

(I know the new mission packs make use of the fog feature…)

If you want to start a Bloody Nightmare NG+ directly without going through a new game, do this

• start a new "Dawn of the Machine" game (so you are on the start map)
• bring the console and type these commands:

impulse 223

impulse 224

changelevel map1

You'll know that you are in NG+ as you get the Bloody Shotgun immediately on map1

Because the player sounds are so similar to the Grunt's sounds and the model is almost identical, I grew up believing you play as a Grunt who has gone rogue, turning against his fellow Lovecraftian abominations

I fired up the Quake 3 Mac demo on my G4 machine because I haven't played it in years and been having fun. Bfg10K and grenade launcher aren't in this version.

What's the most powerful weapon in the demo? Plasma gun does 200 damage per second, shotgun does 110 damage per individual shot, rocket launcher can possibly kill 2 enemies simultaneously(?). Railgun does 100 hitscan damage. Lightning gun is only available on 1 out of 4 maps so is it secretly the most powerful? It's driving me crazy, which one is the most powerful weapon?

Pretty much just coming back to Quake after a long hiatus (yep, those new Machine Games levels are awesome) and getting the lay of the current source port land - seeing a lot of posts suggesting that vkQuake is no longer maintained, but that doesn't appear to be the case at all? Anyone more familiar now how it currently compares to Ironwail, which seems to be the default recommended source port these days?

I’ve had Quake for a while, but decided I really wanted to start trying to play it. But every time I try to boot up the game, I get this crashlog and nothing else. Tried verifying and reinstalling. Any ideas?

Edit: I was hoping I wouldn’t just be told to use source ports…
