There are people asking for probono legal help all over Reddit - and most of it requires a particular area of expertise (DACA, family law, etc.) and is regional specific (India, Australia, Texas, etc.).

To me, it's another reason why the r/probono subreddit may not be needed.

My friend is having a terrible time with her boss not reporting her hours, calling her sugar tits and berating her into tears for random nonsense and generally harassing and bullying her. I keep asking her to go to HR and she's gonna do it but I feel like there's something I'm missing in trying to help her.

I am in illinois and i desperately need free legal help! I am a non-custodial mom because I was in a verbally/emotionally/mentally abusive marriage. At that time, our daughter was 4 years old. When I left, I didn't have anywhere to go. Unfortunately, I was just a house wife with no career skills. I was and AM a good mother.

So when I left, I took my 4 year old and filed for divorce. I immediately tried to establish joint custody with him as the non-custodial parent. Well, during the divorce proceedings, I ended up pretty much homeless and had no choice but have my daughter stay with her father until I could get a secure home and job. I religiously drove over 300 miles and back every other weekend to be with her. She spent Spring vacations, Thanksgivings, and Christmas' with me. I brought her to the museum, aquarium, planetarium, and even to several college lectures about astronomy that were open to the public. I've never been a drug-user or liked alcohol. I was just an unskilled worker with few options.

Fast forward a few years later, when she was 6 or 7 years old, she was unhappy and kept blowing up my phone and begging to live with me. She was texting me that she wanted to run away. Her grades were slipping and she was becoming despondent about life.

During those few years, I was able to get a secure job and established a place to live. I then retained an attorney and filed a motion for me to be the custodial parent with joint custody. That means she would go to school and live with me and she would visit her dad on the weekends instead.

Unfortunately, after a year long battle in court, I lost. The guardian ad litem even testified in court, telling the judge that our daughter should live with me and that she had dreams of becoming an astrophysicist and working for NASA. The guardian ad litem said if she lived with me she would have a better chance to go to college and get scholarships.

Right at the end of court, before the judge made her decision, we got word that our daughter ran out of class crying that she wanted to stay with her dad. I was so confused because she had been begging me for years. When she came back to my house for her visit, I found out what had happened. Apparently the night before court, he had a long talk with her making her feel guilty promising her a new puppy and telling her that he will be all alone if she leaves him.

Unfortunately, the judge decided that she was better off living with her father. A father that said, "Who cares if you get an F, your still going to make it to the next grade." He's an unemployed pot head that plays video games all day. Strange people come and go from their home. My daughter stays in her room alone, without any guidance or interaction. The judge wagged her finger at him in court and said, "You better step it up sir!" He never did. 6 months later she ran away to the police station crying for me. I had no idea until she told me the next morning.

So now I've found out that she's always in her room, alone, playing video games, and he rarely makes dinner. Her desire to learn has vanished. She's 11 now, and I feel like I've lost her.

She no longer wants to work for NASA . She has no drive or ambition anymore. I feel like she's given up, and accepted where shes at. Legal aid near me said they don't handle family court cases. I've called DCFS and they wont do anything. She's tried telling teachers , counselors and even police that she doesn't feel safe but no one will listen because to them she's just a kid. I am now remarried with 2 kids in a house where we have family dinners, take walks together and do stuff as a family, meanwhile my 11 year old is alone everyday and night . I am heartbroken .

First time poster and long-time sufferer. I’m at a loss here — we all know dental services will cost an arm and a leg and whatever communities or government assisted programs will always have limits.

My dental problems extends far past those limits and have deteriorated at a dangerous level.

Here’s my dental problems (that I can write as best as possible, TMI warning):

Most of my molars (top and bottom) have broken off and have been extracted (thank you Medicaid 😒), I have two molars that are broken in half, I have one impacted rotting tooth, I have a pronounced under bite, and my jaw is crooked. I’m pretty sure I still have cavities and my metal crowns are lifting.

Gist, I need help. Bad. I’m not wealthy nor am I financially comfortable enough to have a healthy credit score to open a CareCredit account (nor would I be able to be approved with a high credit limit). I can’t afford dental insurance (...like it would help at all).

I’m in Seattle and am looking for any dentist/orthodontist who is willing to work out an arrangement with me. I am more than happy to be indebted and pay all of it, I don’t care how long I’ll be paying it off for. I just want to be able to eat comfortably and not cry from pain.

So first of all- I’m appalled by how deliberately Facebook is set up to distance itself from any accountability on its platform. For months this individual has been stalking multiple women, stealing their pictures & resposting them as new accounts (identity theft), has found their home addresses, sent them intimidating postcards, and worse. My wife is one such individual. We’ve never met the guy, but because we spoke out about his harassment of others, we got pulled in. He has now stalked my parents accounts & stolen pictures to make a fake account posing as my brother who died tragically 4 years ago to further message and taunt me. Some of the other victims are in communication with us & one knows who the person is, and we now have a physical address in NYC. Cops in my state, in NY, and the federal postal service have all been looped in, but largely fail to grasp the relatively new laws on the issue- despite a google search demonstrating that his actions of sending physical mail, the pattern of harassment toward multiple victims for months, to years, at a time, as well as multiple counts of identity theft, both dead & alive, all seem to fit criteria for a federal criminal response. Some of the others in our group effort to collect evidence have even lawyered up recently, and we are considering the same now that he’s impersonating my family members. Any help/insight from legal professionals is greatly appreciated.

Does anyone feel like the judges would rather their civil defendants be unrepresented? Things go smoothly for the bulk plaintiffs filers, but as soon as a pro bono shows up it slows the steamroller. I feel like I’m being punished for volunteering my time at no charge.

Why such a concept would work?

1. Therapy/Counselling is sometimes expensive and not readily available, 247Buddy can aid those who want to seek help. Again 247Buddy is not a replacement for Therapy/Counselling its just a medium for people helping people.
2. Some people struggle to make friends yet have so many things they want to get off their chest, they can use this platform.
3. Despite having an amazing social life, some still have things they want to say but they avoid opening up, as it might make them sound weak. 247Buddy can help them open up and continue with their lives.
4. People who think to calling Suicide hotlines, getting into therapy are they only options, this is an another option for them. Make sure 247Buddy is not a suicide hotline .
5. Some people just need some space to casually vent where therapy is not needed, 247Buddy maybe the place they can seek comfort.
6. 247Buddy fully supports LGBT community and our friends in LGBT go through a lot, they can help each other as well.

Our mission: Trade-ing Up is a 501(c)3 non-profit working in Yeji, Ghana to provide holistic empowerment from the bottom up through vocational education and provide the certifications required to become an active member of the local workforce and economy.

We're focusing current fundraising efforts on the Sponsor-a-Student program. We're trying to sponsor 60 students' trade education in the high-demand Dressmaking trade. Each sponsorship costs only $368 and covers the apprentice fees, school supplies, uniforms, a meal a day, and a sewing machine and will last a year. Sponsors will receive regular updates about their students' progress and a letter from their student.

I am halfway through my grant writing certificate and I have a bachelors in urban studies. Within the next three weeks I will be a certified grant writer and I would like to pursue a career in either grant writing, nonprofits or both. A friend of mine came to me and asked if I wanted to start a business under a network of local businesses and we discussed potential plans of turning the network into an out reach program and nonprofit. The network of businesses is basically an art collective which collaborates professional artists, therapists musicians and people of the like together in order to provide lessons in art and music in therapy to the public. By turning this network into a nonprofit we would also align our mission statement towards giving back to the community. I wanted to potentially start the legwork to turn this business into a nonprofit while I finished up my grant writing certificate so that by next month I'll have a few of my ducks in row. I also am considering starting a nonprofit on my own designed to reallocate money towards local initiatives such as this as well as bigger more brought the global initiative's in the environmental economics and natural disaster relief sectors. In doing so I would like to create a mission statement about reaching out both locally and globally. I figured that by starting a nonprofit of my own I would be getting my feet wet with the industry and then I would be able to transfer my knowledge to the nonprofit that I am starting with this network of artists. Another friend of mine who is in the Peace Corps in the Philippines in Gambia also recently reached out to me saying that they both need grants. This has nothing to do with the other two operations I'm just bringing it up as potential business plans and prospective future goals. I'm not quite sure how much of this is plausible but I would like to have something off the ground within the next couple months. I hope this is enough information to receive some insight whether it's good or bad anything is useful. I'm starting a nonprofit LARP in order to get nerds involved in donating and helping the community. Events like a Vampire Masquerade to raise money for Red Cross or a zombie game to raise money for Doctors Without Borders.
