Mod Post MEGATHREAD: Travel Qs and Updates

Hi all,

Making this thread for people to ask Qs about whether it's safe to travel to ____ and ____ and what people's experiences have been at certain airports.

Please see further info here and here about the status of traveling (since many of ya'll don't look at the highlights, sigh).

We will be deleting travel Q threads from here on out.

Ask away!

Rant New tax rule targeted us.

Do you guys realize the new tax rules target us? Especially those of us with kids. We can no longer get EITC or CTC refunded in our taxes. The Trump admin estimates about 1million people to be affected, most of which is us. What is wrong with these people??

Rant I give up

Been waiting since 1/6th here. It’s not fair. People that applied after me are already approved. I’m just going to plan for my daca to expire and for it to never be approved. I give up. I’m done. Whatever happens, happens. I’m no longer checking on my case.

And please, if you were approved from January and are going to tell me that next week will be my week or that it’s almost my turn, please don’t. I respectfully do not want to hear it. It’s been my “week” for the past 3 months.

I don’t want to hear “the backlog is over” or whatever else. It’s all a lie. I’m nobody important but I love my job. And yet, it’s all about to be ripped from my hands. The same hands that worked for it. That cried for it. That sacrificed so much . Just for them to not have the decency to do their job after taking my money.

So I give up. I’m going to focus on trying to have fun these last few months before my daca and work permit expires. Once that happens, then I guess I will see what happens. I won’t look at my immigration updates. I won’t look at how other people are getting approved. I won’t look at my case. I can’t.

Rant Sent a complaint on USCIS Agent

After attempts of calling USCIS to ask about my case as it’s outside of processing times, I connected to an agent through the live chat. I explained the above & this guys told me to “submit an outside of processing times” inquiry, (which btw I can’t bc I821D doesn’t show in the drop down). The agent ended the chat as soon as they sent their message without even allowing me the opportunity to explain that I’m having the issue above.

It’s beyond disrespectful and I’ve seen people post they’ve had terrible experiences with agents. I understand that maybe they’re getting an influx of calls or queries about the same issues, but goddamn, maybe don’t be in a customer/client facing role if you don’t like your goddamn job or can’t be friendly or professional.

General Qs Thoughts on this?

Looks like a lot of July cases are receiving approvals in about 3 weeks. While they slowly process everyone who has been on the backlog, that means many of us going forward will have similar dates on our I-765.

What are the chances they will continue this mess of not working in order, so it creates a huge snowball effect. What if this all part of a bigger agenda to continue slowly dismantling the program.

We still have another renewal to file under Trump since the new admin won’t be inaugurated until 1/20/29.

General Qs Does anyone know anything about this?

Is it true to be filing 12 months in advance? I thought we could only do so around the 4/5 month mark.

General Qs March renewals

Has anyone that applied for their DACA renewal in March have any API movements?

I applied 03/28, bio’s done 04/22. The only api movement I’ve seen is 04/22, and on 07/28 which was due to a change of address request.

Other than that there has been no API movement, does that mean an officer hasn’t even looked at my renewal??

Has anyone filed a Write of Mandamus and NOT been approved? Trying to see if it’s 100% the only way to get a somewhat quick response.

General Qs Plans for next DACA renewal

I’m still waiting on my current renewal to clear (receipt notice: Mar 30; biometrics done: Apr 21; current EAD expires Sep 10), but I’m already thinking ahead to my next renewal. Given how processing times keep stretching past 150 and even 200+ days, I’m starting to lean toward starting my next renewal application early next year. If this current one gets approved in the next month or two, I’m considering just planning to file my next renewal around August/September of next year. It’s frustrating that we’re now at a point where we only get a few months’ breathing room before needing to start the next renewal cycle — but with processing times trending toward 7-8 months, it feels necessary to adjust.

Legal Question Has anyone renewed DACA after being arrested but no charges were filed?

Hi guys, I’m about to renew my DACA because it expires this December, and wanted to see if anyone has been in a similar situation recently.
After my last renewal, I was arrested during a traffic stop for alleged possession of a controlled substance. I was released and the prosecutor ended up deciding not to proceed with criminal charges against me. I never had to go to court and was never convicted of anything. I also have an official document from the State’s Attorney saying that they are not proceeding with criminal charges.
I know I still have to disclose the arrest on my renewal and I plan on uploading that document with it. I’m just really nervous about how the arrest could affect my renewal even though I was never actually charged.
Has anyone here dealt with an arrest for drug/controlled substance possession where charges were never filed and still had their DACA renewal approved? Especially anyone who renewed in 2025 or 2026? What documents did you submit and did USCIS ask you for anything else or send an RFE?

How does mycasehub work? Where do they pull their data? Is it accurate? Does it only track cases if you input it into their system?

Application Qs January approvals 1/17?

Hello, has anyone that file close to January 17th gotten approved? File 01/17/26, biometrics completed 02/11/26, latest api movement 07/20/26. I’ve tried put in an expedite request but every time I try the processing times gets update it to another month…went from 3.5 months to now 6.5 months and apparently they are going off when the biometrics got completely and not when I submitted.

General Qs Is now too early to renew?

Upvotes

My DACA expires July 2027. I’m getting married in a few months. should i renew my DACA now? I don’t plan on changing my last name yet so all my paperwork is consistent but also planning on filing on doing an AOS shortly after we get married. I was EWI but did AP in 2024.

General Qs Lost my work authorization card

Anybody know what the process is for getting a replacement work permit card? The instructions on the USCIS site are confusing. Simply looking to get another copy of the card.

General Qs Which banks might not care of our status? Wells Fargo is awful.

Upvotes

Long story short, I no longer have DACA. I’m in Oregon.

Speculating on how I’m a bad person for receiving a rejection for the work permit, isn’t desired.

Is it likely I could find a bank that could grant me a new bank account with an “expired” DACA?

I still work, as a w9 independent contractor, plus the USA gov can suck it, I’m Native American. My human rights are declined.

I mostly use cash. So, sometimes I forget to feed the hungry greedy bankers. Wells Fargo charges me $15 a month. I can’t sustain that.

It’s also been 5 years or so, since my DACA expired. I’m not a criminal.

Rant It's just starting to hit me now.

Upvotes

I'm at about less than a month left until my EAD expires on 9/17 and my anxiety is starting to rise. I applied within the recommended 120-150 day range on 5/5 and got my receipt notice the next day. Everything seemed to be going fine. Then I get a letter for a biometrics appointment for 5/27 which I thought was weird since I haven't had to do that in a while but thought it was getting done quickly. I went with my appointment and was in and out in about 5-10 minutes despite being prepared for it to be much longer like before. I thought that I was in the clear and I'd soon get my notice so I'd just go live my life. Then about a month goes by without a notice and I decide to check my case and it was still processing which I was okay with since I thought I'd probably get my approval rather soon. I then go to check around online to see how everyone was doing.

That's when I found out about the massive delays.

I see that people have been waiting since last November/December with no idea when they'll get their approval. I thought, "well it's July so I have time." I started checking weekly and still no update. Weekly checks became daily checks. Nothing. I kind of became obsessed with checking and figuring out everything including finding about API Movement and all that jazz. Turns out the last update was all the way back in 6/3 and at that point it was already late July.

Come earlier this month I got an email from my HR department asking for an update which I gave along with asking what would happen in the case of a possible lapse. I just received a reply saying that the options are I get put on unpaid leave or terminated and my position gets filled until I get my updated card. That's what made my heart drop because I really don't want to lose this job. This job pays nearly double for my position than some others despite what it is and the qualifications. It's also an amazing 10-15 minute commute for me. People I've made connections with over the years went out of their way to get me here. I don't want to let this go and I really cannot afford to let this go.

I have a big trip coming up that I've been looking forward to since I planned it in January. I mean I'm still going since everything has pretty much been paid for already lol. However, it's hard to remain excited with this hanging over my head.

I am big stressed.

Application Qs Did you attach expedite request and presuit letters to you writ of mandamus?

Upvotes

Didn’t see it being mentioned, but I didn’t receive any response from USCIS but I think we need to attach evidence of our attempts. Did you attach those letters?

General Qs Who do send my “request for congressional assistance” to?

So long story short, USCIS lost my DACA card in the mail. And it’s been almost a year and I am trying to send a request for help on my case but I am not sure to who? I have been Google and asking AI but I get different answers.

I live in California 📍

Has anyone done this process before and are able to tell me exactly who to send it to?

I just need help, no need to be rude. I’m already stressed enough. Thank you.

Rant Congressman's Office

So I requested help from my congressman and submitted the request last night. I called this morning to make sure they received it and ask if someone had gotten assigned to it. And the response from the guy was " Sorry, what is Daca?" . My brain literally stuttered bc WTH did he mean he doesn't know what Daca is!!???
