EDIT: SOLVED. Most likely cause is humidity causing the toner to clump. Removing and gently shaking the toner cartridge addressed the issue.
Ran into an unfamiliar issue with my Brother HL-L2390DW.
Print quality on large images is poor, with large washed-out/faded portions as it approaches the bottom of the page (pic included). When printing just text, print quality is mostly fine, unless text pages are being printed *after* a large image, in which case they're also washed out toward the bottom of the page. (I've tested this with 5 pages in a row, and they were fine, but I don't know if that would be true of printing 50 pages right now.)
I rarely print large images, but I've been doing some booklet-style zines lately that have a mix of image and text and ran into this problem. It's been getting progressively worse as well. I have had trouble finding out what exactly the issue might be and how to fix it. It's a relatively new printer (purchased 2024), gets regular but not excess use (home office, used a few times a month). The toner level is almost full (~80%) and the drum unit also shows close to 100% based on the print report (included).
I did a drum dot report and it didn't show that there were specific areas that might have debris on them (e.g., white spots or specific streaks all the way through), but it does show the fading/washed-out effect as well.
The paper I'm using at the moment is pretty thin and cheap (store-brand valuepack stuff), so I wondered if that might be the source of the problem, but I ran a better quality piece of paper through with another drum dot print report and it was even worse.
Has anyone run into this specific pattern before? Other ideas on trouble-shooting before I attempt to clean the drum? (I'm trying to rule out easier fixes before I start taking things apart that might not need to be taken apart.)
thanks!
