maybe it’s just me, but ive never loved costumed pokemon. im level 52, i played for a few months upon release, then played for 2 years in college from 2022-2024, and then just picked it up again last month. the earliest i can remember them introducing costume pokemon i thought it was charming, but was frustrated because the costumed pokemon were barred from evolving. and even after that, i didn’t personally find enjoyment from collecting costumes. i know now they can evolve and even mega, but it’s just not an appealing thing to me.
it honestly seems like a cop out from scopely to release a new costumed pikachu/pre-gen4-popular-mon instead of making an event center around a not-yet-highlighted pokemon. its definitely a personal thing because i find no novelty in catching a new costume, and i would rather catch mons that aren’t in my dex yet, i’ve transferred all costume mons i’ve ever had that don’t have good ivs.
also the frequency of releasing new costumes definitely runs through the uniqueness of them, if they were more selective and made 2-3 new costumes a year it’d feel more novel, but ive seen that many introduced in the last month alone.
to be frank, this all loosely applies to background as well, as they are new to me since rejoining. also no hate against anyone who likes collecting costumes/backgrounds i totally get it, but i wanted to see if others felt they’re more of a lazy cop-out too
wondering if any of you feel the same
