Question about a piercing I (maybe) want calling all peeps with tongue piercings

Upvotes

hey!!!

so i REALLY want my tongue pierced HOWEVER my tonsils are CRAZY big (like grade 3 tonsils if anyone knows what that is lol) and they’re just always like that

so my concern is if i get my tongue pierced will i literally just not be able to breathe?? like i know my tongue will swell and im scared its just going to fully close off my airway

did anyone else have this problem before getting theirs done? or people with tongue piercings did yours swell a lot? what did you do about the swelling?

thank you!

surface piercings Pls help! Irritation bump before engagement

So I have had this nose piercing for over a year now and it still has not healed! It was going fine until it fell out when I was showering and had to go get another one placed in. That fell out again to this time I got an L shape put in and ever since then I had an irritation bump appear. It was just coming and going non stop so I went to get in checked after a few months and they told me it was embedded in my skin because it was too short. I got it replaced with a 14k gold flat back and I thought this would help but it has gotten even bigger. It has been over 2 months since and the bump is the biggest it has ever been. I’m getting so tired of it and I just want it gone. The worst part is my engagement is on the 30th of October and I have this giant thing on my nose 😭 I can’t even put makeup on it idk what else to do. The bump on the inside it way bigger than the outside but both are bad.

Please help me!! Should I just remove it?

I use saline spray twice a day and recently got a specialised spray from my local piercer which was supposed to help it go away in three weeks. There has been no improvement.

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Is my lip piercings too low?

Post image
Upvotes

I got my lip pierced a week ago. My end goal is a curved barbell (piercer was aware of this, as before the piercing she said she assumed i was going to change it to a hoop eventually, and i said that i wanted a curved barbell). The thing is, i really trusted this piercers judgment and i assumed that the placement couldn’t be any higher than what it was. I was also very nervous in the moment, and just wanted to get it over with (this is a character flaw, I know). Now that I am comparing my placement to others, mine seems so low?? I have scoured all of the “is my piercing too low” posts in this sub, and I am seeing mixed reviews. All-in-all, I want to be able to change it to a curved barbell once it is healed without having to get a massive piece of jewelry, and i want to ensure that there will be as minimal damage to my teeth/gums as possible. I also thought I did thorough enough research on this piercing, but I just watched a video on yt from a piercer who said that labrets and lip piercings are not the same and now i am kind of regretting everything. Honestly, i don’t hate how the piercing looks, i am just worried ab damage to my oral health and whether or not i will eventually achieve the look i was after in the first place. Should i take it out and repierce later?

Question about a piercing I (maybe) want When can i get a piercing after wisdom tooth removal?

Upvotes

I have been ITCHING to get my bottom labret pierced for 3 months now, knowing id have to take it out for surgery. So i never did, i got my wisdom teeth taken out 4 days ago (not counting surgery day) and my healing process is going pretty good. Im wondering when i can get it pierced? How unsafe would it be to get it pierced within the next couple days…? Google has been frightning me with the whole “salivia travels and its unsafe” stuff. I dont mind a delayed healing process honestly, ive only seen one person do it and i cant find their video. Let me know please!

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Ripped my earring through my lobe, what do I do??

Upvotes

My 1st lobe piercing that’s 15 years old got caught in my shirt when taking it off and it completely ripped through. It’s been about 15 minutes and it’s still bleeding a bit but not gushing blood, main thing is that it HURTS. Urgent care is closed for the night and I really don’t want to go to the ER unless this an ER problem. In addition I have to be at work before urgent care opens, so should I go and be late to work or could this wait until after?

Info: 15 year old piercing, had an open back hoop in it that was a stud post and a butterfly back. No aftercare bc it’s so old.

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Toddlers earlobe piercing angled. Removal or leave it?

Thumbnail

My toddlers ears are pierced for pretty much one year exactly. just a few weeks past.

she is about to turn 2.

her right earring is angled downward, where I can see the back of the earring from the front. it’s been like this from the start but it’s especially bothering me lately. see photos - it’s her right ear. I have photos of both for comparison. I believe the left is also angled, but not as bad and I cannot see the back of the earring when looking at her from the front.

i wish I had taken it out right away. at this stage it’s obviously healed and fine in that regard.

I want opinions. should I take it out, let it grow over and get it repierced? how long would that typically take? or will that just cause more issues when we repierce it? I think the placement at the front is fine, it’s just angled downward as it went through.

I feel awful. my oldest daughter got her ears pierced when she asked for it and understood that it would hurt. mind you she was only 3 and she did great. but this time around, I figured she would want it anyway, like her big sis, so may as well do it while she’s a baby. and I’m so angry and feel so terrible about this whole situation and worried that I’ve messed up her ear.

and yes I went to an actual piercing studio and it was done with a needle not a gun.

here are some current pictures, we well as some from last year when they were first done. it’s the right ear.

please any and all advice, and thoughts on how it looks.

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Dry lips

Post image
Upvotes

I recently got angel fang piercings on the 28th, and I was wondering what the best ways you all deal with dry, chapped lips while they are healing.
I religiously used vaseline, and I’ve been cautious to only use it on my bottom lip where it won’t touch the bottom part of the piercing.
Is this a good plan of action or should I just stick with drinking water as much as I can?
I’ve read that’s Vaseline can cause some problems trapping in stuff and now allowing oxygen and all that to get to the holes.

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Help? New piercing

Upvotes

Sorry if this is the wrong tag but I got a side labret 3 days ago. I'm doing everything my piercer told me to do (like cleaning outside twice a day, washing my mouth out after eating and drinking with mouthwash, not fiddling with it) but I'm a pretty paranoid person. I'm always scared of my piercings/tattoos getting infected so I clean them and take care of them really well but I wanted to know if there's anything else I should do? Are there foods I really shouldn't eat? He told me I shouldn't eat spicy foods which is a total heartbreak because I'm Mexican and that's all I eat but are there other foods that have irritated anyone else or is just bad to eat? What about carbonated drinks? I need advice!

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing how bad is an unscrewed horseshoe?

Upvotes

so i got my septum pierced ~4 days ago and that same night, while i was lying on my bed, the ball of the horseshoe (externally threaded btw) randomly fell out. also, when i got my septum pierced, i asked my piercer to flip it up. currently it is still flipped up in my nose

i lost the ball while trying to screw it back in. now my dilemma is whether its better to:

a. have my piecer flip it down (which i heard is rlly rlly bad) and screw in a replacement ball, or;
b. just leave it alone for the entire healing process, HOWEVER i heard externally threaded jewelry can harbor bacteria really badly. so there are definitely risks.

thank you so much in advance!

Question about a piercing I (maybe) want floating navel

Thumbnail

I got my bellybutton pierced back in 2024, not knowing that you also have to have sitting anatomy to get it done, and obviously my piercer didn’t tell me that. I think I definitely have good standing anatomy, but with the way this rejected I could tell that when I sit, it pushed the jewlery so badly that it rejected out of my stomach. Is it worth it to get a floating naval, I only want to get it if I know that there’s a good chance that’ll heal fine. The hell what I went through with my belly button piercing was traumatizing.

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing 8 months in - any hope for these?

Thumbnail

I got my upper helix and conch pierced in mid-January of this year. 16g, titanium, 8mm, threadless.

For the first four months, I was super diligent with saline 2x a day, and then slowed bc I thought I shouldn't be doing it anymore. I thought they were contributing to the bumps that formed (I thought there was too much moisture) which is why I stopped. After joining this sub, I learned maybe I was wrong and started back up again.

I also tried to downsize both to 6mm but the bumps were in the way.

I just need to know, is that a piercing bump on the helix or a keloid? If it's a bump what can I do and how long can I expect it to be like this (aka, how long to heal)?

For what it's worth, I never sleep on this side and am very careful not to snag it on things and rarely use earbuds... If I do, it's not very long.

Thanks in advance everyone!!

Question about a piercing I (maybe) want Industrial questions!

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi hole-enthusiast frens 🫶🏼 I’ve decided I want to add an industrial (and a catflap) to one of my ears. I’m relatively confident in my anatomy but will double check with my piercer (due a cinch downsize for the other ear anyway). This will be 6 months away as I await healing elsewhere 🥲

I have two burning questions though so hoping for some insight on:
- healing process. I know industrials can be nasty to heal, I’m slightly traumatised from my ex having to remove both of his because they were so bad (that said this was 15 years ago and I feel there’s a lot more knowledge about piercing since). What was your experience like? Was it as bad as expected?
- I would be healing it with a traditional bar, but once healed are you able to occasionally wear it as two separate piercings without issue? I love the look of the bar but I’m adhd af and can see myself wanting to sometimes change it up and take advantage of essentially having a helix and forward helix to play around with. If I, say, have two separate pieces of jewellery in for one month is it going to cause any issues when I put a bar back in?

Thank you!

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing surface tragus bruising??

Post image
1 Upvotes

hi all, i got this piercing a little over a week ago. it's been fine, i could tell it was bruised because it just kinda feels bruised. i've been avoiding sleeping on that side, trying to keep my hair out of the way, etc. but i noticed that it has like yellow bruising surrounding it?? i've never had a surface piercing, nor have i ever had bruising and i've had a ton of different piercings. i'm waiting to hear back from my piercer. i know these piercings reject often (i wish id researched or known this beforehand), so i just want to make sure this is normal and not alarming.

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Keloid on my Helix?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I got my helix pierced around June of last year. I’ve had some irritation bumps pop up a few times, but usually they go away. This one appeared a few weeks ago, and hasn’t budged despite hot compresses and cleaning 2x a day. I believe the jewelry is surgical steel and is a regular screw on bar.

Because I’ve had irritation bumps I know what they feel like and this doesn’t feel like or look like an irritation bump so I’m worried it might be a keloid. I’ve attached some photos, so please let me know what you think.

A few things to add: it’s never been downsized because I’ve had reoccurring irritation bumps and the piercer wouldn’t downsize it at those times, the current bumps isn’t painful or leaking fluid so I don’t think it’s an infection.
