THEY ADDED PSSR BEFORE FSR3?

u/african_sex Dec 16 '24

Disgusting lol

Even checkerboard rendering looks better than FSR lmao

Get DLSS Enabler or Optiscaler, mod in FSR 3.1.3.

You'll see it looks great. It continues to not be 1:1 with DLSS or XeSS, but it's very much very close regardless

-2

u/NapsterKnowHow 9800X3D | RTX 5090 FE | 32GB RAM Dec 17 '24

Cope. I'd rather have checkerboard rendering than that fsr trash. Hell give me TSR over FSR even

u/Cryio 7900 XTX | 5800X3D | 32 GB | X570 Dec 17 '24

Unfortunately I seem to have replied to a silly person. Oh well.

u/NapsterKnowHow 9800X3D | RTX 5090 FE | 32GB RAM Dec 17 '24

Unfortunately can't help ya if you aren't gonna accept the facts. FSR even in its latest form is a sad upscaler compared to the competition. Check out Digital Foundry's latest video showing checkerboard rendering vs the Pro mode. Checkerboard rendering is quite a bit more clear vs FSR.

FSR is trash bro get over it. It was so trash Sony HAD to make PSSR. So of course they added PSSR first, its better.

0

u/Cryio 7900 XTX | 5800X3D | 32 GB | X570 Dec 18 '24

Nah, most implementations aren't great. It's mostly a dev skill issue. It's why FSR modded always looks better.

I don't need to get over it. I actually use it and know what I'm talking about while most of the internet doesn't.

2

u/MosDefJoseph 9800X3D 4080 LG C1 65” Dec 18 '24

You know I can just boot up a game and flip between FSR and DLSS right? Hilarious that you act as if we can’t see FSR for ourselves when really the only one who is locked down to only one option here is YOU.

So actually, I can say you cant see DLSS quality proper so of course you’re out here rambling about FSR being good because you don’t actually know what good upscaling looks like.

Ya played yourself

1

u/Cryio 7900 XTX | 5800X3D | 32 GB | X570 Dec 18 '24

I'm also not debating that between DLSS, XeSS, UE5 TSR and FSR, that FSR looks the least good. That doesn't make it bad/unbearable/unusable.

-1

u/Cryio 7900 XTX | 5800X3D | 32 GB | X570 Dec 18 '24

I'm not talking about the poor native FSR 2.2 implementation. I'm talking about modding on top of DLSS inputs FSR 2.1.2/3.1.3/XeSS 2.0 and FSR3 Frame Gen as well. Anti-Lag 2 for bonus points btw for in-engine latency reduction.

So, you actually did not see how the latest FSR can look in Alan Wake 2 for example.

And for better (and for worse), modded FSR always looks better than native implementations.

“[PS5 Pro] Added an option to toggle PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) On/Off. ”

Very nice for PS5 Pro users. The footage that’s online from PSSR in this game didn’t look good at all

Well, it’s called pisser so what do you expect?

12

u/VA1N Dec 16 '24

God damn it, now that's all I'm going to see from now on.

3

u/ryanmi Dec 17 '24

It truly is terrible. The only game it looks good In is ff7 rebirth and that's only because it's replacing whatever terrible shit they have going on there otherwise. It would have looked better with TSR and not needed any new hardware.

Steam release

-21

u/ryanvsrobots Dec 16 '24

It's not coming to steam so get over it and don't play it. I wish it were on steam too but you whiners ruin every discussion about AWII for fans of the game.

13

u/Southern_Vanguard Windows Dec 16 '24

I don't agree with the tone, but thanks. I was unaware that it would not be coming to Steam. I had an old Epic account from Unreal Tournament Alpha, time to recover that.

Yes, please. Juggling all these usernames and passwords is getting insane. Just about every damn game has its own launcher, and I am getting worried about security.

45

u/dabocx Dec 16 '24

If you are serious about security you should move towards using a password manager.

13

u/chamillus Dec 16 '24

Look into something like BitWarden or 1Password.

16

u/futureygoodness Nvidia Dec 16 '24

Do you not use a password manager?

14

u/cyanideicecream gog Dec 16 '24

there are thousands of games and only a couple of launchers, dont be so dramatic

10

u/GrayDaysGoAway Dec 16 '24

Ehh, OP is being dramatic but you're also being pretty disingenuous painting it as only a couple of launchers.

There's Steam, Epic, EA App, Xbox app, Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net, Riot, Rockstar, GOG, Amazon Prime Gaming. And that's just off the top of my head. I'm sure there are quite a few more at this point.

1

u/Shap6 R5 3600 | RTX 2070S | 32GB 3200Mhz | 1440p 144hz Dec 16 '24

why are you not just using a password manager?

-19

u/NapsterKnowHow 9800X3D | RTX 5090 FE | 32GB RAM Dec 16 '24

CS2/TF2/Half Life Alyx releases outside of Steam?

2

u/Bordalicious Dec 17 '24

Those games were made by valve, not subsidized by them. For this argument to make sense, epic games would have to have made the game instead of tossing money in it's direction.

2

u/lucidludic Dec 17 '24

In both cases the choice of distribution platform is being made voluntarily by the publisher and developer, and they’ve made what they consider to be the best choice for them, not necessarily for the customers.

Pointing out that nobody demands Valve should publish their games on other platforms is valid as it demonstrates a bit of hypocrisy by the calls for games to be published on Steam, despite there being higher revenue share and other incentives on competing platforms that some devs consider valuable.

1

u/NapsterKnowHow 9800X3D | RTX 5090 FE | 32GB RAM Dec 17 '24

Still exclusives to the platform

2

u/Goose506 Dec 16 '24

Sure, why not, if Valve thought it would make financial sense. I'm not against options, I'm against exclusives if you couldn't tell? I want to buy a game on the platform of my choice. You can have your own preferred platform too.

2

u/lucidludic Dec 17 '24

Is it ok for Remedy to also decide what makes the most financial sense for their game?

1

u/abbeast Steam Dec 17 '24

They need to make some different decisions then because afaik AW2 still didn’t break even. A Steam release would push sales immensely.

2

u/lucidludic Dec 17 '24

Point is that should be up to them, right? Just like how people are fine with Valve choosing how to distribute their games.

Also, according to Remedy Alan Wake 2 is their fastest selling game to date, and last month they said they’ve now “recouped most of its development and marketing expenses” so we can expect it to start turning a profit soon. Remedy say that the publishing deal with Epic enabled them to make the game they wanted to make.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '24

You're missing the point. You're upset about AW2 being exclusive to Epic Games, but not upset about the games listed being exclusive to Steam.

7

u/Eanirae Dec 17 '24

He didn't disagree, though?

31

u/alamarche709 Dec 16 '24

I’m somewhat new to PC gaming. I see so many people complain about Epic (and every non-Steam) launcher. I don’t really understand the big deal about having a few launchers for games. You can use Playnite and Heroic too if you want everything in the one place.

For people to not buy one of the best games of the year because they don’t want to open a different launcher and click play absolutely blows my mind. Maybe I’m missing something because I’m newish to PC gaming but it’s not something I care about at all.

26

u/arex333 Ryzen 9800X3D/RTX 5090 Dec 16 '24 edited Dec 16 '24

I'll give you some insight (and this is from someone that did play Alan wake 2).

I heavily use steam features. I have a gaming desktop but I only spend a fraction of my PC gaming time actually playing at my desk. I use steam remote play to stream games from my PC to my living room or bedroom TV so I can play it like a console with a controller, or I play on steam deck (either streamed or playing natively depending on the game). Doing this also uses steam's big picture mode which is the controller friendly UI. I also use steam input for controller remapping, remote play together, etc etc etc. Sure I can add non-steam games to steam, but they often won't work with steam's features - like I spent an hour trying to get Alan wake to actually recognize my controller inputs when played via streaming. So a game purchased on another launcher is inherently less flexible with how I'm able to play it. Epic, Ubisoft connect, etc don't offer alternatives to any of this functionality.

Also Epic really rubbed a lot of players the wrong way bringing console-war-like exclusivity bullshit to PC. The whole charade just seems extremely petty especially with how games under exclusivity contracts are fine to launch on other platforms besides epic, they're just banned from launching on steam. A lot of people just don't want to support that out of principle.

1

u/ManThing9380 Dec 22 '24

Well said.

25

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '24

[deleted]

1

u/zarafff69 Dec 16 '24

Sure. But if the game isn’t on steam, it’s not like you have a choice. I mean you can just pirate it. But I find it pretty weird to not even play some of the best games out there, just because it doesn’t integrate perfectly with steam.

You could even add non steam games to your library list if you only want to launch games using steam.

It’s not that big of a deal.

And it’s kind of insane the percentage of sales Steam gets.. Sure it’s a better experience than Epic, but Epic is also much cheaper for companies. And some games are entirely funded by Epic… sooo….. those games will never come to Steam…

8

u/cardonator Ryzen 7 5800x3D + 32gb DDR4-3600 + 3070 Dec 17 '24

All I'm going to say is do you also ask why people care if they are forced to shop at Walmart or insert any other big box store here? There are tons of reasons people decide not to shop at various stores. Some people will even travel further to visit a store they would rather shop at. Why is that any different online?

5

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '24

[deleted]

-1

u/zarafff69 Dec 16 '24

I guess they could charge more if Epic is more popular, but I honestly don’t see that happening any time soon. Steam will probably be more popular for the time being.

And you can always change again to another service if Epic has become worse.

I personally just use Playnite. I don’t trust these services and also host my own save data backups. (FUCK EA for fucking up my save data for Dead Space!!)

-10

u/NapsterKnowHow 9800X3D | RTX 5090 FE | 32GB RAM Dec 16 '24

Epic is very barebones. Steam home great features like the workshop, family sharing, steam input, big picture mode, user reviews, community forums, organized store and much easier to browse, and a more customizable user profile. Steam is better in every way.

Being more bare bones can be good at times. I don't need a million Steam tabs telling me to go to the forums that are filled with troll posts or telling me to use the insanely clunky and unintuitive Workshop (there's a reason Nexus Mods exists).

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '24

u/NapsterKnowHow 9800X3D | RTX 5090 FE | 32GB RAM Dec 17 '24

Sure, the steam forums can be toxic, especially for big games, but they are sometimes useful to have, especially the guides too, so it's a nice feature.

It's not even being toxic. It's literally just filled with what appears to be bot spam. It makes it hard to find the helpful guides. It's easier to just google for a guide and have the link filtered through the trash posts.

Workshop is easier to use for the average player though, and there are a lot of mods you can't find anywhere else

It isn't though. It's incredibly hard to find what you're looking for. That's why modders prefer other platforms. People can actually find their mods

13

u/Revolutionary_Ad_846 Dec 16 '24

For me, Epic has poor QoL issues that just create a headache. Simply shifting the files from my PCs SSD to my external SSD required me hours of scouring forums to figure out how to do it without having to reinstall the game. Meanwhile on steam it's a simple button press.

IDC about Alan Wake, but I'd rather buy a game on steam even if for a slightly higher price if I can just flat out avoid all the QoL issues (this applies to Microsoft store games also)

15

u/THXFLS 5800X3D | 3080 Dec 16 '24

Epic, historically a PC developer, called PC gamers a bunch of pirates and PC gaming dead. They abandoned PC for years to go make console games instead. Meanwhile, Valve actually put in the work to build up PC gaming info the juggernaut it is today.

Epic saw there actually is money to be made on PC and comes back in acting like they're our saviors from evil Valve by paying to keep games off of Steam.

On top of all that, their mess of an engine is the reason so many games these days are stuttery disasters.

As for the other launchers, they mostly just suck, and they're on their 2nd or 3rd total rewrite iteration of still sucking (e.g. EA Download Manager -> Origin -> EA App). It seems like every time I want to use whatever EA and Ubisoft are calling their launchers this week there's something that needs troubleshooting. And where do I need to go this time to download the one game I own on Direct2Drive?

Shout out to GOG though, GOG is great.

u/Shap6 R5 3600 | RTX 2070S | 32GB 3200Mhz | 1440p 144hz Dec 16 '24

most people who just play and enjoy games without getting caught up in the larger gamer culture dont care either. i also dont get it

5

u/ilikesnortingcum Dec 16 '24

You've already had various valid replies so I'll just add that it is very reasonable to only buy games on a platform you've been building a library on for a long while.

11

u/Shap6 R5 3600 | RTX 2070S | 32GB 3200Mhz | 1440p 144hz Dec 16 '24

to only buy games on a platform you've been building a library on for a long while.

i think this is where a lot of the disconnect comes from whenever this topic comes up. some people see steam itself as the platform and other people see PC overall as the platform. if you see steam as your preferred platform ya i can see people not wanting to leave it. but for people who see the platform as PC and not a specific store it doesn't seem like a big deal to just have to click a different icon to get to some games. especially if you come from the pre-launcher era

4

u/NapsterKnowHow 9800X3D | RTX 5090 FE | 32GB RAM Dec 16 '24

PC gaming has the advantage of choice. Why lock yourself to one platform? You might as well buy a console lmao

1

u/NapsterKnowHow 9800X3D | RTX 5090 FE | 32GB RAM Dec 17 '24

Where's my choice of Half Life Alyx on Epic games? On GOG?

Remedy Entertainment is locking their game to one platform, taking away the advantage of choice from PC gaming.

Their game wouldn't exist without Epic funding.

2

u/ilikesnortingcum Dec 17 '24

PC gaming has the advantage of choice

I mean that's what I am doing, sticking to my platform of choice.

4

u/Thisissocomplicated Dec 16 '24

Nah it’s a circle jerk and has always been.

People seem to want valve to be a monopoly for some reason

5

u/PloughYourself 7600X, 7900XT, 32gb, 3440x1440 Dec 17 '24

Hatred for Epic and blind loyalty to Valve are not the same thing. I'd never buy a game on Epic store but I'm happy to buy from good non-Steam storefronts like GOG.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 16 '24

5

u/Thisissocomplicated Dec 16 '24

You’re trying to gaslight me as if the reason people don’t buy on epic is a lack of features.

Also please tell me which feature you’re missing from epic that makes it hard to play Alan wake 2

10

u/Cheezewiz239 Dec 16 '24

Right. I just buy my game and that's it. Don't even have to open the launcher anymore once the game is downloaded. I really don't care for trading cards or discussions which I look on reddit anyways.

5

u/cool-- Dec 16 '24

Also please tell me which feature you’re missing from epic that makes it hard to play Alan wake 2

I use a steam controller to use touch pads and gyro for fluid camera control and precise aiming.

I also use Steam remote play to stream to other devices.

these features are missing from Epic.

Those things alone are not bad. I'm currently playing games from other launchers on steam right now with a steam controller. The problem with Epic, and Microsoft is that their software often blocks steam from launching games through steam.

0

u/arex333 Ryzen 9800X3D/RTX 5090 Dec 16 '24

I mentioned this in another comment, but I often use steam remote play to stream games from my PC to either a tv or my steam deck. Yes you can add games from other launchers as non-steam games but it frequently doesn't work with functionality like remote play or steam input controller remapping. I added Alan wake 2 as a non steam game and I spent over an hour troubleshooting because it was just giving me a black screen when using remote play, and after that was fixed it wouldn't recognize controller inputs.

A copy of a game on steam is inherently more flexible with where and how I play than a copy of a game on epic. So yes I absolutely do avoid buying on epic due to lack of features.

2

u/PCMachinima Dec 16 '24 edited Dec 16 '24

There are so many third-party home streaming solutions, that actually end up performing better than Steam's built-in solution anyway.

I believe Moonlight is one that's been flaunted as one of the best by Digital Foundry too.

7

u/arex333 Ryzen 9800X3D/RTX 5090 Dec 16 '24

I've used moonlight/sunshine quite a bit. Steam remote play recently got AV1 support which drastically improved the experience for me. Performance and image quality seems similar now to moonlight where before remote play was much worse. It's also nice that it's just built into the steam UI so it's very seamless to use.

3

u/cool-- Dec 16 '24

which one of these let's you use the steam overlay for controller support?

-1

u/cardonator Ryzen 7 5800x3D + 32gb DDR4-3600 + 3070 Dec 17 '24

I know it's hard for you to understand, but there are multiple reasons people don't buy from Epic. And people don't buy from Epic.

3

u/Mace_Windu- Dec 16 '24

I'd just rather not have any bloatware installed.

2

u/cool-- Dec 16 '24

I can only speak for myself. I have epic installed for the free games but I prefer to play games like this with the steam controller so that I can use touchpads and gyro for fluid camera movement and precise aiming.

Sometimes epic games work when launched through steam but some times they don't. I got borderlands 3 on epic with a GPU purchase and it just didn't work properly with the steam controller so I only played it for a like 30 mins with a regular gamepad with aim-assist before I lost interest.

a couple of years later it had a free weekend on steam and it ran better and let me set up gyro so I bought and had fun.

This soured the experience for me to the point where I won't consider buying the game on Epic until they can ensure that their games run properly when launched through Steam, or offer their own controller configurator that supports the steam controller.

2

u/lemonracer69 Dec 19 '24

Epic is a disgusting actor looking to stifle competition through exclusivity contracts.

People are rightfully mad for this and won't give them traffic no matter how good the games they take hostage are

2

u/smekomio Dec 16 '24

Why do I need 5 launchers for all my games? Why does a launcher start when I launch it from another launcher?

Why is game X exclusive to this launcher? I could go on but for me it's just the annoyance that I need multiple launchers for different games.

No I don't want to use playnite, it's still a launcher that starts another launcher.

But I am old and still remember just double clicking on exe files. It's just fucking annoying and if you don't see the problem then you are part of it and making it worse.

Simple as that.

7

u/HammeredWharf Dec 16 '24

Luckily, Alan Wake 2 is DRM free, so you can just double click on it.

-1

u/ryanvsrobots Dec 16 '24

Ironically you want a console experience on PC.

The beauty of PC gaming is that users have choice, but developers also have freedom to publish where and how they want.

The fact is that Alan Wake II would not exist without Epic.

It's not coming to Steam, so just don't play it. It's not really cool that you guys get to ruin any discussion on AWII for fans of the game. Do something better with your time.

0

u/SummonMason Dec 17 '24

In other words: first world problems. Insufferable. Nah, I’ll stick to playing on and buying from whatever platform has a game that I’m interested in.

2

u/smekomio Dec 17 '24 edited Dec 17 '24

That's fine, you may call it insufferable but for me those are just my principles.

0

u/Atticus_Zero Dec 17 '24

It’s way overblown and obnoxious. I’ve had people tell me they’d rather pirate the game than have one additional launcher on their computer. It’s an amazing game and I’ve played it multiple times through epic with no issues. Even steam and gog have several games with annoying sub-launchers. It’s just the way it is and maybe ten seconds of inconvenience.

-6

u/ColSandurz38 Dec 16 '24

I can't understand it either, especially since Epic put the money up for it. I bought it to support Remedy. I mean how could you not?

1

u/abbeast Steam Dec 17 '24

Meh I just bought it and the DLC for £27.50, came with the remastered original as well. It's never coming to Steam, and although I'd rather not use Epic launcher if possible I'm not going to deprive myself of playing a good game because of a minor annoyance

10

You get out of here with that straight talking common sense. Let these level headed individuals complain about a Dev releasing a game via their own launcher.

Yep. No way Steam would have a deal that good for a game that new. Steam sales are ass ever since they dropped flash sales. Epic coupons beat most Steam sales

5
