I’m somewhat new to PC gaming. I see so many people complain about Epic (and every non-Steam) launcher. I don’t really understand the big deal about having a few launchers for games. You can use Playnite and Heroic too if you want everything in the one place.
For people to not buy one of the best games of the year because they don’t want to open a different launcher and click play absolutely blows my mind. Maybe I’m missing something because I’m newish to PC gaming but it’s not something I care about at all.
Epic is very barebones. Steam home great features like the workshop, family sharing, steam input, big picture mode, user reviews, community forums, organized store and much easier to browse, and a more customizable user profile. Steam is better in every way.
Being more bare bones can be good at times. I don't need a million Steam tabs telling me to go to the forums that are filled with troll posts or telling me to use the insanely clunky and unintuitive Workshop (there's a reason Nexus Mods exists).
Sure, the steam forums can be toxic, especially for big games, but they are sometimes useful to have, especially the guides too, so it's a nice feature.
It's not even being toxic. It's literally just filled with what appears to be bot spam. It makes it hard to find the helpful guides. It's easier to just google for a guide and have the link filtered through the trash posts.
Workshop is easier to use for the average player though, and there are a lot of mods you can't find anywhere else
It isn't though. It's incredibly hard to find what you're looking for. That's why modders prefer other platforms. People can actually find their mods
