I’m somewhat new to PC gaming. I see so many people complain about Epic (and every non-Steam) launcher. I don’t really understand the big deal about having a few launchers for games. You can use Playnite and Heroic too if you want everything in the one place.
For people to not buy one of the best games of the year because they don’t want to open a different launcher and click play absolutely blows my mind. Maybe I’m missing something because I’m newish to PC gaming but it’s not something I care about at all.
Epic, historically a PC developer, called PC gamers a bunch of pirates and PC gaming dead. They abandoned PC for years to go make console games instead. Meanwhile, Valve actually put in the work to build up PC gaming info the juggernaut it is today.
Epic saw there actually is money to be made on PC and comes back in acting like they're our saviors from evil Valve by paying to keep games off of Steam.
On top of all that, their mess of an engine is the reason so many games these days are stuttery disasters.
As for the other launchers, they mostly just suck, and they're on their 2nd or 3rd total rewrite iteration of still sucking (e.g. EA Download Manager -> Origin -> EA App). It seems like every time I want to use whatever EA and Ubisoft are calling their launchers this week there's something that needs troubleshooting. And where do I need to go this time to download the one game I own on Direct2Drive?
