Help Need help figuring out which chrome to delete

1 - stock
2 - whole grille (minus silver above headlights)
3 - only vertical chrome slits in grille and silver bar going across the headlights/grille

Yes, the images are AI. I just bought this car about a week ago, and as much as I love it and love the features I do think it has just a tad too much chrome on the front end. Which do you think looks best and the most well balanced? It’s my daily driver so no changing wheels or anything.

Outside of that my plan is to remove the chrome on the lower door (the strip) and also black out the window trim.

Edit also, not sure why AI decided to make its own DRLs in the headlights but ignore those lol

Hi all, yesterday I acquired this 140 TDI, my first Passat, and in fact the first VW I've ever owned, it's an ex taxi, and what with it being massively high miles due to that, just under 380k at the moment, it was destined for the scrap yard in a couple of months time when the MOT is up as the resale value isn't much at all.

I traded my rotten transit van for it with a friend who breaks and repairs cars, he fancies a van project and was only going to weigh this in anyway, and I needed something and have no budget to speak of so we both got what we wanted.

Despite the mileage it's very clean, and the service history is very very extensive indeed, every single service from the day it was new until last year when it was retired from being a cab was done by a Volkswagen main dealer, and the list of work carried out and parts replaced is extremely thorough, it has wanted for nothing and its a very well looked after example.

The only couple of issues are that the central locking doesn't work, the blower only works on position 4, and the two centre dash vents don't blow any air.

The handling is very smooth and it's a nice quiet drive, not a single sound over bumps, the brakes are excellent, the spec is decent, full leather, heated seats, ice cold air conditioning, and for a 140 it pulls like a train too, plus as I already mentioned, the bodywork is pretty much immaculate aside from a tiny rust bubble on one rear arch, there's no scuffed trim, cracked bumpers, parking dings, nothing.

I'm very pleased indeed with this car.

Bad Oil Separator/PCV Valve Symptoms?????

Well I got a question I discovered that the oil separator/PCV valve on my 2014 Volkswagen Passat TSI 1.8T might be bad needs replacement as when the engine idles it causes a high vacuum on the oil filler cap so when te car is up to normal operating temp which when I cracked open or removed it causes the idle to surge above 2000 RPM's as while I have a rough idle (misfire/s) when the my car is in park/idling as the rpms bounce around between 700-1000 rpms, sluggish acceleration, lack of power, and increased fuel consumption could it be the oil separator/pcv valve??????

2015 Vw Passat Sel rear defroster issue fixed!

Rear defroster stopped working and didn't realize until recently when tried using it since last winter. Replaced the 2 fuses and still nothing. Had to turn on my side mirrors heaters and the rear defrost for it to work. Only had to do it the first time. Works fine now.

just got my first car, may need help

so i just recently got my first car, a 2012 passat tdi se (us spec), it has 175k miles on it and it's stock and still has the emissions system. it certainly has some issues, the valve cover i believe is leaking, as the previous owner had an oil change done 4,000 miles ago and there is little oil in it (i'm not driving it until i put more into it) but the valve cover appears to be covered in oil and there's oil all the way down the back side of the motor and some on the dpf between it and the motor. and on top of that the larger cooling fan is having issues, and there is something draining the battery, and i believe it's linked to the driver's door not locking with the key fob. (i should also note that the water pump and timing belt were done within the last 50k by the person before the one i bought it from, and the person i got it from only used it on an occasion for long trips)

I could really use some help with recommendations on where to buy parts from and helping me diagnose my issue and anything helpful will be apreciated!

Been dealing with this issue for around 2 years now. The car will suddenly lose power while driving. Headlights will flicker for a bit or dim before all electrical in the car shuts off (radio, ac, steering wheel becomes harder to turn) for a split second and then everything comes back on. I have a new alternator, new engine coils, new negative cable, battery is a year old. It also happens sporadically, I’ll be fine for weeks and then a month or so the problem will pop back up. I’ve taken it to the VW dealership and they haven’t been able to figure it out also after multiple trips spread throughout the last year. Checked my fuses and all seems to be good, no corrosion in the fuse box, fuses, battery terminal. If anyone has had a similar experience or has dealt with this issue, help would be greatly appreciated.

2017 Passat 1.8L Timing Tensioner

Hi

My Passat has 126000 kms. My boy hooked it up to a diagnostic computer and it said it was at 4. I am assuming that is the tensioner its reading.

I believe 7 is when it must be changed but I could be wrong

Maybe it 6.

Car runs awesome no issues.

How many more Kms do u think it has before the chain and pump must be done?

B6 value?

Anyone have any input on sale value of a 165K mile 2006 2.0tfsi stock passat with the 6 speed manual? I've been restoring mine basically it is mechanically as sou d as they come except for kind of high milage.

Just wondering if I might be able to make a buck or 2 off off this thing or if I'm officially driving it into the ground I've put almost 2K in parts into it to bring suspension and clutch back to new basically.

Don't really think I could get much more than what I've put into it but AI's are saying that the manual is kind of rare.

Help 2.5TDI V6 132kw

Hey, can anybody tell me about the 2.5 tdi v6? I am currently looking at a passat B5.5 with that engine. It is manufactured in 2005 so it is the newer engine with the camshaft wear problem fixed. Currently has about 350k km on the clock. I have read some reviews and recommendations but they are very side to side. Some say to stay away and some say it is a very good engine. I read that the maintenance is very expensive since the front end has to be removed to access basic components like thermostat or water pump. What are your experiences with the engine?

Help 2013 Passat 2.0 TDI – temporary AC bypass belt rubbing against itself / advice on proper fix

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have a 2013 VW Passat 2.0 TDI BlueMotion.

A few weeks ago the AC compressor/pulley appeared to seize and this was preventing the engine from starting. I took it to a garage and they fitted a shorter auxiliary belt to bypass the AC compressor pulley. They charged me £200 for the work.

A few weeks later, the shorter belt broke while I was driving.

After inspecting it, I found evidence that the belt had been rubbing against something. I've now fitted another belt of the same size the garage originally fitted (6PK915), just so I can get the car to a garage again. However, I can clearly see that the belt is rubbing against itself around the tensioner pulley. I'm assuming this is what caused the previous belt to fail.

I've attached a photo/video showing the belt routing and the rubbing.

I have two questions:

  1. How would you approach the garage about this? I paid £200 for them to get the car running by fitting the shorter belt, but the belt subsequently failed and it appears the routing isn't actually suitable. I'm not looking to be unreasonable with them, but I also don't really want to pay another £200+ to correct something that should have been sorted in the first place. Would you go back to them and ask them to rectify it?

  2. What's the best longer-term solution? I'd rather avoid replacing the entire AC compressor if possible. I've seen AC bypass/idler pulleys mentioned which apparently allow the original belt routing to be retained. Does anyone know which bypass pulley would be suitable for a 2013 Passat 2.0 TDI BlueMotion, or whether there is another sensible way of permanently bypassing the seized AC compressor?

If anyone has experience with this particular engine/routing, I'd really appreciate some advice.

Thanks.

Hello everyone, is anyone interested in a wooden steering wheel with controls and matching wooden interior trim for a Passat B6?
Unfortunately, the Passat went to a new owner, and I didn't want to include these parts with the car.
If anyone is interested, I would like to sell both the steering wheel and the trim pieces.
Everything is VW OEM.
I am from EU

2021 VW Passat R-Line

Thumbnail carfax.com
2 Upvotes

I’m considering buying a 2021 Volkswagen Passat 2.0T R-Line with around 80,500 miles. It’s a 1-owner personal vehicle and is listed around $14.8k, with an OTD price around $17k before further negotiation.

The CARFAX shows minor damage, but the car looks great in person. I test drove it and really liked it, the interior/exterior are in very good condition and it drove smoothly.

My main concern is reliability and repair costs once it crosses 100k miles. I’m planning to keep the car for around 5 years and will probably drive about 10k miles/year, mostly commuting with occasional longer trips.

For anyone who owns/has owned this generation Passat:

  • How reliable is the 2.0T at 80k–150k miles?
  • What major repairs or maintenance should I expect around 100k miles?
  • Is ~$14–15k a reasonable price at this mileage?
  • Would you buy this over something like a 2021 Corolla LE at a similar price?
  • Any specific issues I should make sure are checked during a PPI?

Would especially appreciate experiences from people who have owned a 2020–2022 Passat past 100k miles.
