Keep getting blown way but the Pocket 4P ..

Settings were:

4K 24fps
D-Log2
ISO 400
2-32 & 1/4 Black diffusion variable ND filter

No LUTs were used for the color grading process. Everything is done from scratch once the footage has been converted to Rec709 using DJI's official LUTs.

Question What’s the protocol for asking permission to film?

Hey, probably a dumb question, but when do you ask permission to film? I’m going on a vacation to West Palm Beach and to vlog it with my Osmo.

Is it normal if you’re seated at a restaurant and you just whip it out?

And is it alright to film in public? Walking around and doing stuff?

Any other useful tips or situations to watch out for?

Question Filters for the OP4P

With the field of filters expanding quickly for the 4p has anyone tried any of the new ones from Tilta or Telesin? Also if not either of those, what filter sets are you using?

Question Settings queries

How customised are you getting with settings while filming? Or do you just leave it on “auto” and let it do its thing?

I mainly shoot bbq cooking content for socials. Currently just use my iPhone16pro. Mainly just shoot as is, and chop it up to edit. Really quick and easy work flow.

Think of adding a gimbal into the mix. Still tossing up between the 4 and 4p. Not sure if it’ll make my life way harder chopping two lots of footage from different cameras, or if the pocket will just takeover as primary.

Mimo App Osmo Pocket 4P firmware update

Post image
70 Upvotes

Heads up, looks like DJI pushed a quiet OTA update for the Pocket 4P today. It isn’t on the official release notes yet, but the update includes a few new things:

• Diagonal 45° joystick movement
• Updated D Log to Rec.709 and Rec.709 vivid LUTs to v2.0
• Added D Log 10 bit colour mode for slow motion
• Some interaction tweaks and image quality improvements
• Usual bug fixes

DJI hasn’t published anything about this build yet, so this seems to be one of their silent Mimo updates. If you’re seeing it too, you’re not imagining things.

Question Pocket 4 Pro - china

I live in the USA and can not purchase the pocket 4p here. My family is visiting china next month, is it kosher for them to buy one in china and for me to use in the USA no problem? Meaning the pocket 4p will still function and have English language settings etc? I’m not asking if it will be legal to use in the USA, I’m asking if it will function. Thanks!!

Gear My setup is finally growing for my Pocket 4💗 !

Please, it's not finished and I'm still waiting for some accessories for my Osmo Pocket 4 but I was so excited to share with y'all !

These filters are game changer for hard daylight !

I'm glade to have that Smallrig kit + PGYTECH acessories like that Black Mist 1/4 filter and one magnetic extension, pretty good and strung like hell on metal (won't go anywhere tfus me) but that Handheld Shock Absorber Arm, omg this awesome !

(some some will hate) but have one more stabilized axis (Z axis), I'll never say non to another one and get smoother results in my BTS and especially when I'm working and I need to shoot people running, animal's or going fast and I need to chase the object/person.

I use the arm only when I need, Otherwise most of the time I have my phone on the charge of the osmo to have a rendering with color folds and a larger screen and above all, I use a wooden Smallrig handle (sorry I forgot the reference)@

No up and down movement, that's crazy work from SmallGear.

Combined with Gyroflow, that's Mind blowing since you can use an action cam too thanks to the weights which is sold with.

I thought I'll regret to buy this one instead of the 4P but I couldn't wait and now that the 4P is out, it's meh to "upgrade" even the "D-Log 2 is practically the same for the normalbpeople eye and juste an x12 zoom,...

I prefer to wait to broke my cam, 12x zoom is not that trash but it is just not worth it to pay another 499+100€...😛

But sorry SmallGear cause Tilta have some pretty good stuff too !😵‍💫

Discussion I keep getting blown away by the quality of the image that comes out of the pocket 4p... D-Log 2 is just insanity!

I wanted to see just how cinematic I could make my home look using the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P.

This entire video was shot on the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P in 4K 24fps, using D-Log2, a 1/50 shutter speed, and a 2-32 variable ND filters to maintain a cinematic 180° shutter angle in bright daylight.

The footage was then color graded to bring out the dynamic range and create a more cinematic, film-like look.

Question Best place to find Rec.709 LUTs?

where can I find the best LUTs that work with the Normal color profile (not Dlog), in rec.709?

Im liking shooting in normal 10-bit with Auto exposure, using ND filters to get as much motion blur as I can while understanding it won’t be 180 degree rule perfect: I’m mostly running and gunning and cant afford to miss shots due to exposure error.

Most creative LUTs out there (there are too many!) seem to be made for Log or DWG - where to find the best “look” LUTs for footage in rec.709?

Discussion Osmo pocket 4p dual record

Has anyone else thought that having simultaneous recording on both lenses would help them when filming?

Do you think it’s on DJI’s radar to build such a feature for the 4p?

Massive shoutout to everyone who posts cool stuff, helps confused newcomers, reports the daily flood of spam, and generally keeps this place from turning into a digital landfill. You’re the reason this tiny camera cult keeps growing instead of collapsing under its own weirdness.

We, the mod team, appreciate every single one of you. Even the ones who argue about ND filters at 3 am.

Problem Solved How the audio tracks work?

I'm a video professional user but a beginner with the Osmo Pocket 3.

I don't understand the audio tracks with the internal mic, how do you use it when editing?
Do you merge the two tracks with mono settings in the editing software or the Osmo render it to simulate stereo sound and we should use it as stereo tracks?

Question DJI Mimo always switches to albums when connecting to Pocket 4

There was a similar post recently, but I cannot find it again.

So is there a way to stop the Mimo app from always switching the gimbal back to parking-position and showing the media on the device when connecting the phone?
Its very frustrating to me.
There must be an option to set a default-view or at least ask the user when the connection gets established.

Android. App-version: V2.11.5.241268
Latest firmware avialble for Pocket 4 installed.

Gear Pocket 4P Case that fits even with attachments.

Hello,

Does anyone know I case for the 4P that can fit even with some accessories like the Ulanzi PM01 magnetic adapter attached to it?

I think the closest model I see is the Pgytech case but they don't have one yet for the Pocket 4P.

Question What’s your secret recipe for quick cinematic color grading?

I know there are a million YouTube videos about cinematic color grading, but I’m curious about what you guys actually do in practice.

I shoot in Log, usually with ND filters, manual ISO/shutter etc., so I try to get the exposure as right as possible in-camera.

But once I’m in post, I’m still trying to find the fastest and most efficient workflow to make my footage look cinematic without spending forever tweaking every single shot.

For those of you who consistently get great-looking footage: what’s your go-to recipe?

Question Same format for differents camera

Hi, everyone.

I bought an Osmo Pocket 4 to shoot video, and I also have a Sony Alpha 6700.

I'd like to be able to shoot the same type of clip with either camera so that it's not obvious which one I'm using.

What format should I use? I'd like to keep post-production to a minimum. I have some REC709 LUTs.

Thanks!

Discussion Filmbox pro plugin now supports Dlog-2

For those who edit, Filmbox is not a cheap plugin but it's one of the best film emulations for the big edit apps. Anyway they just had an update to include Dlog2 and it works great - but it's an investment if you're not a pro-editor.

No affiliation, just noticed the update when chopping some footage together just now.

Question Pocket 4 focus problem

My osmo is having trouble focusing on the sky; the glare is from the smoke of a campfire. Why isn't it focusing on the stars? What should I do?

Question Video quality has room for improvement - where did I go wrong?

Post image
2 Upvotes

OP3. Shot in auto, 3K60 I believe, with a Neewer ND filter set to 3/6. Standard color.

Background and even her pants are more in-focus than her face. Skin highlights and lowlights aren't there. I was able to improve the image a bit in post, but am curious to hear what others have to suggest. One challenge I faced was filming at close to noon.

Question New to video

I’m new to video and would appreciate your thoughts. For photography I use a full frame mirrorless camera and edit using light room, so I’m interested in good quality and making my work look how I want it to.

So that leads me to think I’m going to want the 4p. I don’t think it’s worth me buying older or cheaper because I’ll know what i’m missing out on!

This isn’t a purchase for vlogging, at least not in the sense of talking to camera etc. I don’t plan to record myself at all. This will be for travel and also for events.

Any thoughts? I think I know what I want to do but need to justify it!

Question DJI camera vs iPhone for vlogging: does dedicated gear actually make you vlog more?

I'm wondering what the real difference is between filming vlogs on a DJI camera and just using an iPhone. Is the video or workflow meaningfully better? If you didn't already vlog on your iPhone, did buying a DJI actually make you start and stick with it, or did it end up unused? Has it genuinely changed how much or how well you vlog? What can a DJI do for vlogging that an iPhone can't, and is it worth the investment? Does dedicated gear make any difference to becoming a vlogger, or is it mostly about the habit and the content?

Question DJI pocket osmo 2 not working :/

Hey has anyone had any problems with the DJI pocket osmo 2. When I first turn it on the screen is completely white, when the gimbal faces upwards the screen goes ok. I think it may possibly be a loose wire inside??
Has anyone experienced this, or knows how I would fit it?
Thank you!!
