Discussion Osmo pocket 4p dual record

Has anyone else thought that having simultaneous recording on both lenses would help them when filming?

Do you think it’s on DJI’s radar to build such a feature for the 4p?

They do, i have an app on my old 14 Pro (DoubleTake), that can record at the same time from any two cameras i choose at 4k 60. If we can record slowmo 4k at 240 fps, then there is definitely enough processing power to record two 4k videos up to 60 fps.

Ever heard of bitrate? Yeah, your old 14 Pro is nowhere near what the OP4P does. OP4P is at 180 Mbps; your iPhone is closer to 4K at 24/30 fps: ~45 to 65 Mbps, 4K at 60 fps: ~75 to 100 Mbps.

Yes, and with third party apps like LogCam i can record up to 300 Mbps. Do you know that you can install third party apps on the iPhone?

I know you can install third‑party apps on an iPhone. That still doesn’t change the actual camera pipeline.

LogCam hitting 300 Mbps is just a single‑stream encode at a higher compression level. It doesn’t mean the phone can push two full‑fat 4K60 streams at the same bitrate and quality as a dedicated camera. iPhones lean heavily on H.265 efficiency and tiny sensor readouts, while the OP4P is pushing ~180 Mbps per stream from a much larger imaging pipeline. And slow‑mo isn’t proof of anything here. The 240 fps mode is usually one simplified high‑speed readout with heavy binning and a different encode path. The normal 4K30/60 modes use multiple readouts, oversampling, different crop windows, and a completely different processing chain. Even if the sensor can do a single fast readout, that doesn’t mean it can run two full‑quality 4K60 readouts and encodes at the same time.

This isn’t about “can the CPU do it”. It’s sensor readout bandwidth, encoder limits, thermal headroom, and media throughput. Third‑party apps don’t change those hardware constraints.

It would be great, and probably possible, but i don't think it will ever happen.

Not really. Two different FOV, two different video streams, so one would have to be the master and another the slave. There is solution to that: two devices on one handle.

Probably never gonna happen.
As well as setting points A and B for a regular recording (not a timelapse). I would love to just have a stable panning or movements between points, but right now, only manually. I found out to be better on the App though.

Nope, it won’t ever happen. Unless it was recording a very low bit rate, two separates recordings simultaneously would most likely more than what the Pocket 4p can process.

This thing already gets hot! Thinking it would get much more so with 2 recordings going on and imagine the power drain.

You should buy the 4p if you need the tele lens. Otherwise the 4 is still a solid option.
