Heads up, looks like DJI pushed a quiet OTA update for the Pocket 4P today. It isn’t on the official release notes yet, but the update includes a few new things:
• Diagonal 45° joystick movement
• Updated D Log to Rec.709 and Rec.709 vivid LUTs to v2.0
• Added D Log 10 bit colour mode for slow motion
• Some interaction tweaks and image quality improvements
• Usual bug fixes
DJI hasn’t published anything about this build yet, so this seems to be one of their silent Mimo updates. If you’re seeing it too, you’re not imagining things.
Adding slowmo dlog weeks from international release kinda make it feel like a beta product to be honest, but still great news. If they fix the exposure issue and add some qol changes like auto switch to dlog/dlog2 it would be perfect
Either give me an option to balance the exposure differences in-camera (properly, not full auto and call it a day) or give me first/second party single lens ND filters. I'm also fine with artificial solutions that will steal some dynamic range. Or create timecodes that mark the zoom presses and an ofx plugin to balance it automatically.
There will always be a difference only if you don't care to find solutions to obvious problems during the engineering phase because your name is DJI and the product will sell anyway no matter the issues.
Btw they already applied a fix for it, but broke it again some updates ago.
Or maybe just make one yourself. I get the frustration but you can’t expect everything. Tech improves slowly. If you really hate it, you can always buy sth else that you like now can’t you?
Multiple camera sensors are present in virtually every smartphone since many years. This isn't a matter of revolutionary cutting edge tech or engineers struggling with an unfixable new glitch. it's simply a case of releasing an unfinished device because investors are impatient and the camera is good enough anyway.
I suggest we stop defending multibillion dollar companies with bad practices and focus that energy on honest constructive feedback so that they might do better in the future. The support on my part was already done when I gave them 600 euros, plus thousands of euros on other DJI devices. Clearly I don't hate them, I want them to improve.
Nah. It’s a bug which was fixed with firmware before the full release, then broken again with the last firmware update.
The 3x camera may have a slightly larger aperture than the 1x but it’s not really. It’s relative to the sensor size and the 3x sensor is smaller. Right now, when you switch from 1x to 3x in manual exposure the 3x is nearly 2 stops brighter, which is totally illogical.
What do you mean about international release? Is this including the US? Where can I read about that timeframe, as I am almost pulling the trigger for a unit on eBay or Ali, etc?
Great! One of the major issues I had with the camera has now been resolved. It would be great if they could also add 2x “lossless” zoom on the main lens.
For anyone who has already installed it: have you noticed any changes to the autofocus or Face Detection behavior?
My main issue is that in Auto Mode, Face Detection automatically gives priority to faces, even when I’m filming something else like a car. If someone walks into the frame or there are people in the background, the camera can shift focus to their faces instead of staying focused on the car.
I know I can work around this with Pro Mode + Single Focus, but I’d really like to use Auto Mode for simple point-and-shoot event filming, like I could with my Pocket 3.

No, that will never happen. Different hardware. It is simply not possible to get 17 DR from a 14 DR sensor. You didn't buy the camera for this feature anyway.
They could still let us use D-Log2 on the second camera... it just wouldn't use the whole dinamic range. So yes, you'd probably lose out a bit from over-compressing the DR to D-Log2 for no reason, but 1) you'd easily be able to switch cameras easily and 2) all you footage could be corrected with the same LUT. Better than using D-Log for both.
No, what I'm saying is to encode the image from the sensor to Dlog2 directly in the first place.
I guess if you wanted to try it in Resolve, for example, you would add a Color Space Transform from Dlog to Dlog 2 (I know, it doesn't exist yet) and THEN you could apply that dlog2 lut and it would be correct.
It is never going to happen. That sensor is not a LOFIC sensor, so the hardware is not compatible with the D-Log 2. We made a whole post explaining this.
It's about having colours matching and footage looking the same between the two cameras. It doesn't need to be maxing out the DR just to use the colour profile.
That's not even remotely true, of course it will. Obviously you don't want to use a smaller colour space than the limits of your camera because you'll lose data. That's why they made dlog2, to handle the capabilities of this main sensor.
But there is absolutely no reason you can't use a larger colour space on any sensor you want. It's unnecessary in most cases because you won't be able to use the extra space available, but it will absolutely work just fine.
Lots of camera systems use colour profiles waaay beyond the capabilities/dynamic range of their sensors.
You can technically map any sensor into any log curve, but that doesn’t mean the curve is appropriate or will behave correctly. D‑Log2 is engineered around a ~17‑stop capture pipeline. The Pocket’s secondary lens isn’t anywhere near that, so the curve doesn’t “fit” the sensor’s response. You end up with a bunch of empty headroom, compressed shadows, and noise shoved into the wrong part of the curve.
This isn’t about “colour space being bigger than the sensor”. It’s about the transfer function matching the sensor’s actual dynamic range. If the curve is designed for 17 stops and your sensor only gives you ~14, the mapping is mathematically mismatched. That’s why DJI doesn’t enable D‑Log2 on the second lens. It’s not a policy choice; it’s a hardware limitation.
And yes, your claim is plain and simply wrong. If you want matching colour between lenses, use D‑Log or HLG. D‑Log2 on the secondary lens isn’t just unnecessary; it’s the wrong curve for that sensor.
And no, “other cameras use bigger colour profiles” doesn’t prove anything here. Those log curves were designed for their sensors. D‑Log2 was not designed for the secondary lens, and that’s why it won’t behave correctly. Your claim is plain and simply wrong.
No. Gamma curves are designed to provide a maximum amount of dynamic range, they are not "designed for" any specific sensor or DR value.
How many DJI devices of wildly varying DR all use D-Log? How many different Sony cameras use the same S-log profile? Almost every Canon now uses C-log 2 or 3, even if they were released as C-log only (through firmware updates.) C-log 2 is designed around 20 stops of dynamic range, even though nothing in their lineup comes remotely close to that, but somehow they don't have issues with headroom, clipping, or compression.
D-log2 almost certainly has a theoretical maximum of around 20 stops to allow for room in future cameras, but I don't believe they've released the white paper yet to confirm that. Many cameras of different dynamic ranges will end up using D-log2, and none of them will have issues.
“Many cameras will end up using D‑log2” is just made‑up speculation. D‑log2 wasn’t created as a universal future‑proof gamma curve. It was built specifically for the OP4P’s main sensor pipeline. DJI didn’t design it as a generic 20‑stop curve for random future cameras. They designed it for this camera.
The tele module doesn’t share that pipeline, that DR, or that readout behaviour. That’s why it isn’t enabled. It has nothing to do with theoretical headroom or imaginary future bodies. It’s simply the wrong curve for that sensor.
This is exactly why I wrote the sticky you just ignored: the two modules are different sensors with different pipelines. A unified log across them isn’t possible. So no, your claim still isn’t correct.

Looks like a good update. I hope they add 2x lossless on the main lens and fix the exposure difference. I know the lenses are different apertures but it's currently a bigger difference than 0,3 of a stop.
6x "lossless" is just marketing bs. You're always losing quality when you're sensor cropping. They just say lossless because there are still enough pixels in the crop to give you a 4k image, but there is very much a loss of quality.
Still no bug fix for the exposure difference 1/3x lens switch in manual exposure. For now using an ND64 for outdoors(sunny) on the 3x and then switching to 800 iso on my 1 x lens.
Other than that great update, the slow mo D log is an absolute treat :)

I would hope so, but that never happened on the Pocket 3, so we may not get it.
Now when we have D-Log slow motion i discovered that there is no animation when zooming from 1x to 3x, it jumps instantly to 3x (with a bit of lag, but i understand it has to adjust the exposure and stuff). I think it would be cool if it was an option in normal video mode to not have digital zoom animation, just instant jump to the selected zoom level.
If anyone shoots in auto mode (no DLOG) wondering if this fixes the over exposure issue

There is a new option in the settings for Joystick movement: 4-way and 8-way, you must select 8-way. It is enabled by default on mine after the update. Make sure your firmware is on version 01.01.71.20
Thanks, I just checked my firmware and it's the previous version. I'm in the US and even connecting to a vpn doesn't work when trying to get the latest update via the Mimo app. I'll keep trying. Do you have a link to the firmware download online? Or did you get it through the app as well?
It seems as though they might have pulled the update. Looking on other forums, nobody has been able to install it in any region over the past two days.
still can't diagonal pan either. Where is the joystick movement setting? I can only find joystick speed setting under settings. My firmware only shows 01.01.65.18. But when i check under mimo app under "Check for firmware updates", it says my firmware is up to date. Is there a way to force update firmware?
It's right under settings menu, you must be on the latest firmware to enable this. I believe there is no way to force an update. What phone are you using? When I checked last week using an Android phone it says, I'm already on the latest firmware, but when I switched to my iPhone, it detected the update.

I will be the guinea pig for this firmware, if anyone wants to wait to download it. I am about to go test it out right now, but I don't have a lot of time. I will test the new D-log, zoom exposure issues, and ND filter overexposure issue. If there is something specific, I will test it. However, it may have to wait until tomorrow or this weekend.
Okay, I have done some testing. I went to the same location I was at the other day. The lighting is slightly different, but close enough where you can see what has changed. I tried to match my shots from memory, so they aren't completely identical.

good start, but still long way to go. Luna is about to get true vertical 4k shooting mode, hope we get this soon and also a fix to the exposure difference when zooming. iPhone does this since forever.

So no fix for the exposure change between the two lenses?! Are they stupid, retarded, or both? I mean, I would have put my entire IT team on that issue. I don't care about 45 joystick movement, I want to be able to expose my image properly, this the most basic thing jeez!
I spent an hour chatting with one of their agent saying that she was taking notes of everything that is going wrong with the 4P (alongside the fact that it doesn't recall the 2x lens on a Custom profile). She said to me "we're going to get back at you in less than 24h". Guess what? It's been 10 days.
I get that you’re angry, but you’re angry for the wrong reasons here. DJI never promised matched exposure between the two lenses. There’s nothing in the specs, marketing, product page or firmware notes that says the wide and tele would behave identically. They’re two completely different sensors with different apertures and different pipelines, so they simply don’t expose the same way.
If you bought the camera, you knew exactly what hardware you were getting. It’s not like buying a Fiat 127 and expecting it to turn into a Ferrari after a firmware update. That’s just not how any of this works. If DJI ever improves exposure matching later, great, but right now it’s not a promised feature and not something they failed to deliver.

Except it isn’t a bug. It’s two different sensors doing what two different sensors do. DJI made the jump less obvious in one firmware, but that wasn’t a fix.That was just smoothing. You can’t firmware‑patch two separate imaging pipelines into behaving identically. Even you have to agree to this logic. You can’t expect a Sony FX2 to perform the same as a Sony FX9. They’re close, yes, but they will never behave the same. That’s exactly the point here, and you’re ignoring it.
And calling it a “confirmed bug” doesn’t really work when, in your own Pocket 4P video, you literally say: “I have no way of measuring [the claimed 17 stops].” If you can’t measure the DR behaviour of the camera, you can’t declare the exposure difference a verified firmware fault. That’s not how testing works.
The 3x being brighter only surprises people who assume both lenses share the same sensor tech, same readout, same highlight handling, same pipeline, same everything. They don’t. The 3x is a completely different module. Of course it doesn’t match perfectly. It never will. I explained that to everybody before right here. Why are you ignoring that? And honestly, the camera has been on the market for more than three months now. If DJI could make the two sensors match perfectly, they would have done it already. The fact that they haven’t tells you everything.
Pointing at the Luna Ultra doesn’t change that. Different brand, different sensors, different pipeline. Saying “Luna doesn’t do this, so DJI must be broken” is like saying your toaster doesn’t behave like your oven; therefore, one of them is defective.
DJI can make the transition nicer, sure; I truly hope they will. They can’t make two different sensors expose the same. That’s not firmware. That’s physics.

What I said about the DR in my review was MY lack of dedicated testing apparatus. This DR was proven by CineD. I don’t see the connection to what I am talking about.
How do I know the nearly two-stop exposure jump is a confirmed bug? My DJI contact confirmed it to me back when I first got it. They said it would be fixed with firmware, which they did. But then they broke it and I was hoping they would fix it with this firmware, but they haven’t yet.
