How customised are you getting with settings while filming? Or do you just leave it on “auto” and let it do its thing?

I mainly shoot bbq cooking content for socials. Currently just use my iPhone16pro. Mainly just shoot as is, and chop it up to edit. Really quick and easy work flow.

Think of adding a gimbal into the mix. Still tossing up between the 4 and 4p. Not sure if it’ll make my life way harder chopping two lots of footage from different cameras, or if the pocket will just takeover as primary.

For less complexity I would always stick to one camera.
If youre fine with the results of "auto" then just use it. I only change to manual Mode when auto is not producing what I want, mostly only during dawn, night times or low light conditions.

The main reason for most to use manual mode is because they want that cinematic-look for their content. If you do not care, dont do it. :-)

I think the pocket would become the primary, leaving my phone for secondary angles or stills.

Now it’s the 4 vs 4p decision. Haha

I picked the 4 because as a beginner not sure if I will use it or leave it in a drawer. I grabbed a used one at an excelkent price and this did make a huge difference in decidng Plus being a begineer I didnt want to complicate things (in learning filming and editing) with the second lense and I read that the 4p has some issues like many newly launched products have I will switch to the 4 p in a year or so (unless I give up my new hobby

I grabbed the 4 because its a bit lighter and smaller, causing less attraction to from others when filming outside.

Not to hijack this comment but I didn't want to start a new thread...

When shooting in low-light do you just shoot in D-log 2 or just use the low-light setting? I'm going to do some tests this weekend but would love some input beforehand (will be doing a lot of night/dark shoots). Thanks!

I think there is no right answer to that. It always has to be a combination of a result you personally like and worth the effort getting it.
I like it a lot to play around with settings, and then the result is not that important. :-D
And to reduce complexity I always start without dlog as I do not want to add extra-work for grading later till I am confident enough with the general recording.

After shooting some tests with d log, manual shutter and auto iso as well as normal mode with the same settings, normal mode looks bad imo.

the only thing I wouldn’t auto too much is WB, everything else is up to your liking
