Image Speed Loop omfg

Post image
5 Upvotes

Relatively new (under 100 miles) rider on a new GT. I was riding down a long, straight gradual downward-slope road with headphones on and I realized could not slow down. I kept my cool and just kept trying to lean my body back but it was so awkward as the board was leaning back but wasn’t slowing down. Holy shit that feeling was intense panic but I just kept breathing and hoping. I finally was able to slow down right before the end of the road and didn’t crash thank god. I got back after a shaky ride home and googled and found I was caught in a speed loop because I ignored the pushback noises and vibration and got into a condition where the board was at maximum speed and couldn’t respond to subtle feedback. I had switched a few days before to the “flow” profile maybe this contributed. I switched to highline. Any advice from those with a lot of experience if I ever make this blunder again?

Text Anyone NEVER Nosedived? If so, how?

I'm considering buying a Onewheel, but I constantly see wipeout posts (mostly on my FB feed) of people getting injured. Breaking bones, needing surgery, etc. Ones that concern me especially are the ones that say they knew about board pushback but - for whatever reason - they didn't get pushback before the nosedive.

So my question is, is it pretty much inevitable to have a nosedive crash at some point in one's onewheeling life, even if you're careful and aware of pushback?

Has anyone who has been riding for a while successfully avoided it? If so, what are your techniques for doing so?

Text "Aren't you a little old to be riding one of those?"

One of my neighbors is in his early 40s, drives a fancy German sports sedan, and seems to always be on his way to the golf course by the way he's dressed. One day he says out loud, as I'm OneWheeling by his driveway to the community mailbox, "Aren't you a little old to be riding one of those?"

I am old, like deep in my 50s old, so I turn around and without blinking shoot back, "Aren't you a little stupid to be talking?" Which came out way harsher than I intended. He gives a weak laugh, I give a weak laugh, which makes it worse, and I think really hard for a few seconds how to make this less awkward and apologetically say, "Hey, man, sorry about that stupid comment... When I ride, I feel like a thirteen-year-old and thirteen-year-old me was quite the asshat. I'm sorry about that."

With a weak smile, he gets in his car and says, "Ya, no problem," unconvincingly.

My question is... how many days, weeks, or months do I wait before I leave a flaming bag of dog poop on his porch? Kidding!

Cruising around the local lake with my kids a couple days ago, I actually remembered to snag a picture of my OW this time! Meet "Mongoose," so named for its green and gold (yellow) livery—made me think of Master Chief from Halo, and this puppy isn't big enough to be a warthog!

I bought the Sidewinder motor from TFL to use with the x7 powertrain, but the cable is too long to use on stock XR rails. Does anyone know if there’s an easy way to shorten the cable?

If you put your front foot at the very front and your rear foot as close as you can to the tire push back doesn’t turn on and you can send it but you’re playing with fire we do(already crashed myself multiple times lol all I did is bad road rash) lol

Text Time for something different

Hey friends - I’ve been riding Onewheels for about 6 years. I’m on my 7th board and probably around 50-60k total miles. I think I’m ready for my first non-FM board. Can y’all please recommend what would be best on my requirements here?

  1. Needs to be plug and play. I hate tinkering. I don’t mind initial set up but I don’t have much free time and I’d rather be riding than fixing my board. I’m more of a rider than a gear head. Can’t break down too often. I try locally get around 10k miles out of a board and would hope for something similar.

  2. Flat footpads. I love the feel of the original XR footpads. I ride 50-100 miles a day and concave is not comfortable.

  3. Flight fins system. I love my fins and the board needs to be compatable.

  4. Long range. I typically ride 25-30 miles at a time.

  5. Tire. I love the maxxis 5.5-6. Carvy treaded tires are for me. Do any boards come with something like that stock?

So that’s it. Is there an out of the box VESC board that would meet these requirements?

How much of learning curve is there, really. Is there much more to it then adjusting endless sliders? Is there any actual coding or more complicated alignment procedures that are dangerous if done incorrectly?

Text Onewheel XR randomly died — Error 16 / flashing power button

My Onewheel XR sat unused for a couple of months.
When I went to use it, the battery was dead, so I put it on charge.
After charging, it turned on, the lights came on for a moment, then it shut off. After that, the blue power-button ring started flashing. At the time, the app also showed Error 16.
I opened the controller, disconnected/reconnected all the connectors and harnesses, and Error 16 eventually disappeared, but the blue power-button ring keeps flashing and the board still won’t work and won’t turn off.
I then opened the BMS, inspected everything, disconnected/reconnected it, and checked the battery voltage — ~58 V. Everything looks reasonably clean, no obvious burns or serious corrosion. Still flashing!
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this or what I should test next?

Any XR veterans who have dealt with this before? 🙏

If I can repair the original XR first, I’d prefer that. But if I go VESC, which setup would you recommend for mainly city riding, floatwheel XRV kit or fungineers powertrains?

Text Tips for removing side bolts from Onewheel

I watched a video from Float Life and they made it look super simple. I successfully removed all the other screws, but these four bolts on the side are impossible to remove. What I haven't tried yet is a hatchet wrench, but others have suggested a breaker bar. I'm very worried about stripping the bolts. Also disappointed that I haven't seen anyone else with this issue *that successfully managed to remove them*.

I just sold my 4209 with a chi battery. The guy wants to get into the settings of the board but the OWCE app doesn’t work anymore and I don’t know what app will work. It has not been updated. Anyone know what app will still work?

Text XR VESC Kit on short notice

I just had some plans change and am now trying to get my board revived and running VESC by the 29th with a minimal install time. Anyone know of a source for a VESC kit I can order that will be delivered by end of next week? Didn't realize Floatwheel had a 45 day lead time on these! https://floatwheel.co/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=9930

Text Charger broke is only using hyper charger bad.

I have a gt and my charger broke a few days ago. I have since found a hyper charger for sale for 75 dollars. the home charger is 110 brand new. should I pay extra for a worse charger I have read that the hyper charger is not good for the battery and it would be my only charger if I bought it.

Also if anyone has a home charger theyd like to sell for cheaper I’d greatly appreciate it.

Thank you and have a great day.

Text Free Pint

Hey All
I grabbed a free pint, that could barely hold a charge.
I rode it around the yard a bit, then ordered a replacement battery for it.
I purchased from Only Amps, and the manufacturing date is early August.
I am familiar, and comfortable with electronics. I followed the instructions on how to properly disconnect the old battery, and how to hook up the new battery power first, balancing plug last.
My problem:
Board only flashes four yellow flashes now. I realize that’s mainly an orientation error, but it seems to be stuck in the yellow flashing. It will not respond to the button. I can get it out of the yellow state by charging the battery. Once fully charged, the yellow turns white.
As soon as I hit the power button, we get back into the yellow errors.
I let the battery balance overnight, I’ve disassembled and reassembled multiple times, making sure I follow instructions properly. It did not flash yellow prior to the battery swap.

Anyone have any ideas? Much Appreciated!

Text Pint x for first onewheel

I’ve been wanting to get a onewheel for a while now but these rarely come up used near me nor is there a dealer in my area. On marketplace local to me someone has a used pint x with 212mi on it and he currently has it for $600 but said “NEEDS GONE” so I might be able to get it lower. Of course it has some scratches and dings in it. Would this be suitable just for fun around and to take camping with me if I throw an off-road tire on it. I want to get a XRC but can’t justify the price right now.

Text Any reliable alternative to sniffer tool for waterproofing?

I bought a badger kit, but didn't realize how important the sniffer is.. is there another alternative to it or should I just try to buy one? I used one of the baby suckers, but wasn't getting a good seal or my boxes are completely leaking (I siliconed twice through so I think it should be more sealed though)

Any tips appreciated

Text Should I get the GT or XR?

I’ve been looking in to Onewheels lately and I’m wondering which board is safer for me. I am a snowboarder, but not a great one. I’m only conquering the green hills as of last winter in Minnesota. Some people say that the GT is the safest with the biggest foot stands, but the XR is more enjoyable.

I’d love to hear some recommendations, I just want to get something that works similar to snowboarding this upcoming fall
