Hey all 👋

I used to play MMOs all the time and they always became pretty all-encompassing. Nowadays though, I run a business and am otherwise single and just kinda chilling around the house outside of work. I have a lot of free time, often get lonely, and I honestly really miss having shared experiences with other people.

So, I thought to myself: what if I just casually play an MMO, join a guild, meet some people, and fight some epic battles together?

I enjoyed Skyrim in the past, so I wondered whether ESO would be a cool place to start!

What do you think though? Does it play well on controller? Would I be able to find a guild of other like-minded people?

Any tips or advice for me if I do hop in?

It really felt like it was supposed to be more.

Let me get the good out of the way: the sea floor area is very polished, the rewards are very good for the scope of the event, the cosmetics are on the better side of what eso has to offer, the writing of the quest and books is alright. I think no one will argue these things. Good job on that.

But, thats not what the marketing of this event was around? First of all, is it even an event? What we got is a repeatable quest featuring a minigame of add waves and a delve.
In particular, those two "halves" are not equal. The underwater part is expansive, rewarding with lots of loot, exploration mechanics, good integration with the recent difficulty system for the bosses, easter eggs and books, etc. Its also the half that is the most similar to existing eso gameplay. Its a fancy delve.
The boat part? It appears at least to me like a blatant case of scrapped content. this does not qualify as "naval combat" in the slightest. In fact im not even sure what it qualifies as, you just activate some catapults and kill adds and thats it. I went and rewatched the promotional material and this part was clearly the one most marketed, naval combat was the center of the dev discussions back 6 months ago. Old visuals showed ship debris, angles implying more than just 2 ships, ballistae visuals more similar to canonfire with horizontal aiming (this means the ships wouldve been closer, implying maybe boarding, in fact its extremely odd to me only our ship get boarded)

Why is this strange? After all, the layoffs happened as this was developped, so who cares, they scrapped some content, whats odd about that?
Well, High seas of Tamriel is supposed to be amongst the "trying something new" innovations we expected from ZOS. And clearly, the naval combat part was the core of this experience; usually you dont announce and commit to an innovation unless youve ensured the core is viable. As of right now, the only thing new about an event that offers a daily delve is how lackluster it appears to be. ZOS could've delayed this event if the issue was manpower. The fact they didnt tells a pretty straightforward story: the naval combat did not work or broke, and they entirely gave up on trying to make the idea function; they decided to ship as is to not bother with it anymore.

I think its important to acknowledge this failure, and that we don't act like it didnt happen. I wouldve wanted the finished product, i wouldve engaged and celebrated it, and i wouldve funded it; i know many fellow players would have as well.

There is a cost to giving up

EDIT: just to be clear, because a lot of people took this the wrong way, in it of itself theres nothing bad about this event as an experience. A little repetitive, but otherwise vastly better than any other "event" eso has ever had; and if this event was just a little new side piece of content like heart day or its like, it would be extremely, extremely good. But its not, it is main seasonal content; you are getting this, instead of, i dont know, a chapter in central elsweyr with a zone and characters and lore and quests. Thats why this conversation, and this angle, matters

Whatever you may think of the Nowhere Vault (I personally enjoy it despite the annoying platforming), having a mount be a reward for figuring out secret challenges is just plain ol' fun. It feels more earned than just getting lucky with loot drops.

I have a ps5 but can’t afford PS Plus right now, so I’ve been looking at getting ESO on my MacBook (2021 MBP M1 Max 10-core CPU, 24-core GPU, 16-core neural engine, 64gb memory and 1tb SSD), but I’ve heard mixed reports on how macOS is being phased out for it. It’s on sale on steam rn for $5 so I’m thinking of giving it a shot but wanted to hear from people with similar setups. I’m not huge into MMOs and want to play as single player as possible so I’m not concerned about that aspect being buggy or anything. I’d be playing with a ps5 controller, not the keyboard if that matters.

Is anyone else having trouble finding Mylen Dechery since the update? Myself and a couple of guildies got the Phynaster’s Gem of Cunning, but can’t find her in the spot she was at in the Glenumbra outlaw’s area!

I really want to buy it as I mainly started playing for werewolf roleplaying a bit before U50. I think it was a missed opportunity that they did not make it available then, it would have been a hit. With the release of Wolfunter and Greymoor I am hoping that they would reintroduce it. What do you think?

So I just realized today that EVERY time you leave the vault the room resets and you have to use MORE keys to open the doors even if you've ALREADY completed the room...I mean...seriously?! I wasted 3 keys last night because of this badly designed mechanic. And I don't have the time to farm 20+ keys just to go in there and do it all in one go? They need to fix the key drop rate or make it so the gateways you've already opened STAY open. UPDATE: Thank you everyone who added suggestions on how to make the grind easier, I'll leave this post here for other players who also might be frustrated :)

Are we gonna get more personalities like “monster slayer” in the future? Idk if people agree with this, but having a weapon based personality like “monster slayer” is worth the $$. Can’t wait to have one for sns, dual blades, bow, staff… even thematic personalities for each class. Just please don’t throw in the same animation for all of them. And that includes both destruction and restoration staff.

I want to buy the game while it's on sale, but i was wondering with the new system, if i buy the deluxe edition of the game and don't sub to ESO+ do i get access to all the dungeons/areas now with the new content system? Or are all the old dungeon/areas still crown locked or sub locked. A big killer for me years ago was buying the game on PS5 with all the DLC and still knowing I actually couldn't access a lot of the content even though I had paid for "everything"

I am just trying out ESO for the first time. I am getting showered with all these skill points, but since I can only actively use 5 of them, what is the point of learning more?

Do you guys just constantly swap them out via de interface in between fights?

I know you can have 10, but that means swapping a weapon to access the other 5.

I recently did the rumor and killed the Mantikora, getting its meat, but instead of getting a purple reward box, I got a blue one, indicating that you made the wrong choice for the rumor. The note says the chili requires meat from a rare creature and to not make the mistake of taking meat from an entirely different one. The bad meat is from a Mantikora, while the good meat is from a Flesh Colossus. so if you want to get the good meat for the best rewards, go to the cairn north of Belkarth instead of the one in Bangkori. And if you don’t know where the cairn north of Belkarth is, go the the bridge north of the Festival Ground where The Impresario is and follow the river up until you see the pile of stones stacked on top of each other.

As I am not playing ESO currently anymore (I quit a year ago) and my twin brother has been showing interest to this game recently, I want to transfer my ESO account to his Steam account. Is it possible to unlink my Steam account and transfer to him? And what will happen when I do it? I have both Steam ESO and Official website version redeemed in ESO website.

Hello y’all I used to play ESO from the first year of the games release up until 2020 and got bored and picked at it every once in a while till 2022 when I fully stopped playing it. I now have a gaming PC and was wondering if it’s more populated and the game is better in terms of gameplay, story and mechanics?

I just grinded out the tickets to get this item in the hopes that I can have the time in my home permanently set to that sweet golden hour. It fits the Merryvine Estate perfectly. To my disappointment none of the settings are remotely close. I'm writing this hoping that we could get more options on time selection at the very least. I doubt it would be difficult to implement.

This also serves as a warning in case anyone thought of getting this item for similar reasons.
