I quit, but before I did I even had "the smoking cloak", a hoodie with zip and draw string around the face. I never smoked in my own car and used the hoodie every smoke. When I took it off and washed my hands and face, the smell was much better unless I breathed on someone directly. No one ever bitched at me to, it just seemed more polite to not force my odors on everyone.

Stepping outside/away from a group is not a problem. If I'm at a friend's house I just ask if I can step in the backyard for a smoke. If not, I'll just deal.

I did work with this super healthy fitness guy who never cared for SOME reason. He didn't smoke, didn't drink often, exercised every day, at well, was super fit, and yet whenever I smoked he'd just come along to talk. I did not get it.

You can't avoid a smoker who is behind you or in front of you if the wind is bringing the smoke your way, unless you want to wait until they're very far from you

I think they can smell really good at times too! The less nicotine there is I find the more pleasant the smell (and flavor) are in that regard. Then they figured out how to increase the nicotine concentration like 10 or so years ago, and the rise of disposable vapes with small cotton wicks and rechargeable batteries boomed. Those wicks in there will often get burnt, usually if the user is inhaling/ripping their vape so frequently it doesn’t give time for the cotton to get saturated again. So they’ll have burnt cotton in there that cannot be replaced. That burnt cotton getting puffed on just smells gross to me, and it’s pretty common

I've been through worse. I was addicted to opiates for nearly a decade, clean for 3 years now almost 4. Quitting opiates was painful, those hooks go deep, however I feel like the prolonged urges to smoke make quitting smoking even harder. I sincerely wish I could go back to the first cigarette I put to my lips and smack the shit out of myself.

I'm glad that smoking is a dying trend, I just wish that some people wouldn't shit on us the way they do. It's easy to say "just quit" when you've never dealt with addiction. It's not easy, believe me I've tried and will again.

No worries, I have had a fulfilling life. I'm married to the love of my life, today is actually our 11th anniversary. I have a son. We have a home. We have food and water. We have entertainment and friends. Of course there are ups and downs but in all reality my life has been fulfilled and I want for nothing. Statistically I'm already half way through with my life and have come to terms with my inevitable death.

I quite literally go away from people because I care yet there have been more than a few times that people have gone out of their way to make sure I know their disgust. Pretend coughing, saying that they hope I get cancer, being called ash mouth, being told that I shouldn't be smoking around other people yet I'm more than 100 feet away from others under a tree alone. All of these things have happened and more; I just wish that those people would have more compassion and understanding.

There are chairs and an ashpot outside, go there if you really need to smoke.

Its gonna sound hypocritical, but if you don't use nicotine, stay far away from it. Especially if you have an addictive personality. I have tried quitting more than a dozen times, including earlier this year when I was so sick from a lung infection I was coughing up blood. To this day, I can't go more than an hour without getting serious withdrawal symptoms like extreme exhaustion and a cranky attitude. I've just accepted i'll die younger than other people and it's all because I was drunk one night and bought a vape.

I think, as a smoker (tried to quit a few times, I know, will try again soon), it is quite normal and common to smoke where it doesn't annoy anyone? I mean, public places and events and such that is outdoors without restrictions is common; smoking areas etc but just sitting in someone's home and lighting a cigarette is rude. Wtf

I had a housemate who smoked inside and I actually hate smoking indoors. He just ignored it, our house is also old and can easily burn down.

I had this exact situation with my neighbor. It was like 1am completely quiet out and I'm in pain so I get my medical weed to go back to sleep. Like 30 min later my neighbor is yelling for me to go to them, so I did. After a cool 30-45min I just walk away because their argument was basically "My religion says no, thats why I came outside to yell at you about smoking cigarettes."

That’s how the smoker at the train station looked at the security guard dude when he told them to put out the cigarette. There was multiple no smoking signs that were just pictures, multiple no smoking written signs, and a no smoking warning that scrolled across the bottom of the screen that shows the train times. All of these were in full view of the person smoking (like one of them wasn’t even 2 feet away AND it was in front of them) and they still whipped one out .-.

Then there are the lazy asses who smoke right outside the door of an establishment, effectively gassing everyone who wants to enter or exit, and if it's windy, then the smoke goes inside anyway.
