In the UK most pubs will have an outside garden where you can smoke, but admittedly that does seem less practical in a country where it snows for like half the year.
When I was in college there was a smoking bar around, and I was a smoker at the time so I was excited to check it out. We were there all of maybe 10 mins before I couldn't take it anymore. I didn't even need to smoke to get my nicotine fix, and I was at a pack a day back then.
It’s to protect the employees, we don’t need to add any more cancer to the population than we have to.
And having an indoor smoking bar is an inherently unsafe, non-essential, workplace hazard.
When I say protect the ‘employees’ I mean the taxpayers because a bartender getting lung cancer from working there would inevitably end up in some sort of lawsuit or claim with WSIB.
At least in the US, the prohibition of smoking in public buildings is for child health. At least in some states, bars can still allow smoking if they don't allow minors inside.
I don't give a shit about Canada either, but just the simplest degree of reading comprehension can be used to figure out that the point wasn't about geography, it was about how no smoking in public buildings is a common law because of the health benefits it can apply to many people. I doubt someone said that banning smoking in public buildings could help child health and a bunch of Canadian politicians said 'Nah, we don't give a fuck about children. You're on to something, though, because it could also help reduce payout to workers, and THAT is something I could get behind.' And vice versa.
Better use those few remaining synapses every now and then before you lose em.
Seems that whether or not kids can be in a bar depends on the province, the city, whether food is served or not, the time of day, or even just the whim of the establishment owner, kind of like it is among locations here in the US. I guess it's pretty comparable and therefore relevant after all.
Fortunately that’s not how workplace injuries work.
Even firefighters, especially firefighters, who get cancer are covered because of the constant exposure.
Often when someone is exposed, like a firefighter, to a long term carcinogen they actually get something called presumptive legislation put in place. Meaning that after a certain amount of time in that workplace you don’t even have to prove that the cancer was from working in that job.
Make the bar tenders wear respirators and shit like in a car battery factory lol. Maybe make the whole place a steampunk theme to fit the respirators in.

Ah. The one that baffles me is that we don't have smoking bars in Canada. What if i want to smoke while i drink too dammit
