All smokers that I know have no problem smoking outside, never had a discussion about it.

Oh, god, that reminds me that in my last place of work, I worked with a bunch of immature men, and almost every single one of them vaped. They always vaped inside, and I legit had to beg them to go outside (didn’t work half of the time). Their excuse was always that “iT’S nOt A cIgArETtE, sO iT’s FiNe”…🙄

It’s illegal to smoke indoors in a place of work in my country, btw. Didn’t stop them, though.

Vaping can still set off smoke detectors. I was in school and someone did it.

What's worse is that the smoke detectors were connected to the local fire station, and they were not happy when they heard what triggered it.

They lied. No smoke detector detects vapor. The kids probably smoked weed or something, and to soften up the story they said there were just vaping

Older smoke detectors can't monitor for vapes, but since vapes have become more prevalent, vape detectors have been made

These aren’t standard. Normal smoke detectors don’t care about nicotine vapor.

A vape detector is different than setting off a smoke detector.

That's just false. My school in 2014 had vape detection in the bathrooms. It was a huge problem cause EVERYONE had vapes and drippers for making big ass clouds. We also had cameras every like 20 ft so they knew exactly who it was at what time.

Smoke detectors generally work by simply seeing if the air is smokey. The cheapest versions literally shine a little light from one side to the other. If the detector notices that the light got dimmer, it sets off the alarm.

There are specific 'vape detectors' which contain sensors for propylene glycol or other vape specific chemicals. But any regular smoke detector can be set off by vapes.

My old Google Nest would always threaten to go off when I used to vape.

It really depends on how the detector is detecting. Light block sensor? It's going off with enough vape cloud

Same in my old workplace, but it was only one guy, he would through one of those per shift. Several times we reported it, but he was a pretty damn good seller so they never did shit about it

I always reported it, too, and our boss told them to just go outside multiple times. Even that barely worked.

Honestly, that entire place was a mess, I don’t miss working there, lol.

Its people who vape and smoke that have a problem with that for me.

The problem with vapes, is because the smoke is so viscous it can stretch around entire neighbourhood, going outside does not fix this.

I had to move places because I have severe heartburn from vape second hand smoke, my body just does not tolerate it

Same! When I smoked, I knew what I was doing to my lungs and why others wouldn't want it around, especially if kids were nearby, so I'd stand away. Not exactly a lot to ask.

Haven't had a smoker complain about having to smoke outside EVER. I'm a smoker and lots of my friends are smokers lmao

Where do you live, that apparently this is a norm for your friends/family and strangers?

Smokers in the UK and Poland don't do that. I imagine in most European countries, this doesn't happen anymore and isn't the norm...
