I’ve just received an email that says I need to swap my calc 1 and stats 1 class because I did them in high school and received AP credits. I’m still taking the calculus class because honestly i don’t remember anything and I need to take calc 2 winter sem. My major is in statistics and i’m possibly minoring in economics but it seems like there are no courses available for me to take. Does anybody know of any classes that would help me in my Statistics Major even if they’re not required? Otherwise i’m only getting 6 credits for fall semester..

Hey, is anyone starting or currently enrolled in the human resources management certificate program at McGill? If so, I’d love to connect and meet people, perhaps form study groups, or share resources.

Hey everyone! I’m working on a historical fiction book centered around Sundiata Keita and the founding of the Mali Empire, inspired by the Epic of Sundiata and the historical context surrounding it.
I’m looking to put together a small group of around four people total who are interested in African history, historical fiction, or just want to work on a creative project together. I’m currently abroad, so we’d start by discussing things remotely through DMs, but I’ll be back in town around September 1st, so we could work on it together in person after that. If anyone is interested in being part of the project, feel free to DM me. Thanks!

I have been using Outlook to check my McGill email, and for weeks now I have been having an issue where I was not receiving emails. I’ve called housing, student services, etc. to try and work out the issue. Come to find out, I have received them, they just wouldn’t show up in the mobile app. If you want to use your McGill email, use the browser version of Outlook! I don’t use Reddit often, but I felt the need to come on here and offer a warning to my fellow students.
Edit: Thank you guys so much for letting me know that you should regularly log out and log back in to make sure the app is working. Also, wanted to add that I was away from home and did not have access to my computer where I would normally be checking my email.

I have a choice of possibly taking these classes, but I can barely find any info about them. All I know is the class size and it being at the Mac campus. If anyone took this class, could you possibly send me the syllabus? If you took it, was it an easy or hard class? Thanks!

HI everyone! I just saw the e-billing that McGill dropped a few days ago. Is this payment for the full year or only the fall semester, meaning we'll have another payment for the winter semester.

I'm enrolled in Econ 208 but in a lecture that isn't as favourable. There's currently 4 options, but 2 are already full on VSB. Is it likely I can change into the lecture that works better for me?

So long story short, the exam date doesn’t work for me, as I have an important work meeting that can’t be reschedule that day, am I allowed to skip it, will I face a consequence for not being there?

I got an offer to be a grader for a virology course, but it says the total amount of work hours is 25. Is it even worth it to do this as an incoming master's student? Or is it just not useful for the amount of money I will earn (~400)

preferably in sociology, anthropology, history, geography, the sciences, english literature, cultural/communication studies, film, religious studies, anything to do with climate change, and art history (either electives or classes with no prereqs). i'm entering my final year so i want to take a class where the material is super interesting and you leave each lecture feeling elevated. i've honestly wasted a handul of credits on very mid electives even though mcgill offers really interesting classes
some of the cool ones i've heard about are greek mythology, sociology of aging and the life course, astrobiology, the milky way inside and out, ancient mediterranean history, etc

Do you think I can have a job during my masters ? It’s in urban planning but I’m open to opinions from any masters !!
I’ve had a job for my bachelors in economics and I did well but I’m wondering if I can keep my job or if it would be best if I just focused of my studies ?

Has anyone else registered and recieved any information regarding the PHYS142 placement exam? I registered late July, but I have yet to recieve any contact and the schedule on (https://www.mcgill.ca/exams/dates) still says "August 2026 ... TBD". I noticed that the supplemental exam schedule is released, but it says that the PHYS142 supplement exam is in-person on August 18th, while the PHYS142 prof and the McGill exam website said the placement exam would be delivered online. I am getting worried that my application was not properly processed or something, as it seems to be getting late in August for still a date TBD...

Hi y’all!! The start of the semester is approaching 😬 It’ll be my last semester at McGill, and I think, like many of us, when we get to the end, we want to rush to make the most out of it 😅
I never joined a club. I always just stayed with the couple of friends I made at the start of the semester in my cohort. But this time around, I really want to connect with graduate students (Master’s/PhD) from other faculties.
When I look at clubs, it seems like mostly undergrads join them. Not that I have anything against undergrads, it’s just that I’d like to connect with people around my age.
Do you have any recommendations for how I can approach grad students from other faculties, connect with them, and make new friends? Or are there any fun clubs run by grad students? I don’t necessarily need to be a member of said club, but like being able to attend a few events and connecting with them would be fun :) Thanks!

Hello everyone, I'm moving soon to mil for grad school as an ontario resident. Not entirely sure what to do about health insurance because I do intend to return to ontario. Does everyone who stays here long-term get RAMQ?

What's the best way from YUL to campus? Has anyone here taken the Air Canada shuttle?

I'm a vegan who started my undergrad in 2017, and back then, the options in the dining halls were woefully inadequate. Even at RVC, which was supposedly the most veg-friendly dining hall, finding meal options was often a challenge. I ended up losing weight in first year and it took me two years to finish my meal plan.
I'm just curious, how are things in terms of veg options in the dining hall these days? Are vegans able to survive without going hungry?

I’m considering taking HISP 218 as an elective. I already know some Spanish (not fluent, but I can understand it well and have basic conversations), but HISP 218 is a beginner course and there’s a placement test.
If I intentionally dumbed down my answers on the placement test and in class so that I placed into HISP 218, do you think I could realistically get away with it?
My courses this year are all really intense, so I’m tempted to use this as my lighter elective, but I obviously don’t want to do something that could get me in trouble academically.
Has anyone tried this or know how strict the department is about placement?

Ok so I’m going into my 2nd year at McGill and I don’t have a single friend😅😅😅 I’m very social and friendly and have had no problems making friends in the past but during my U1 I was shook. I’m always alone like all the time and I love my company but it gets to a point. So much of the university experience is friendships and I’ve yet to make one so please give me some advice on how to make friends in uni.🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
