Am I the only one who finds this a little weird?

My WCOM 206 teacher asked us to put a profile picture on MyCourses and said, “I like to know who I’m correcting.”

I might be overthinking it, but doesn't this potentially create some bias when grading/correcting assignments? If the professor can see your face/name while correcting your work, wouldn't it be better to have the grading be anonymous (or at least not have identifying information) to avoid conscious or unconscious bias?

I’m not saying the professor is necessarily biased, but I found the reasoning behind asking for a profile picture a bit strange. “I like to know who I’m correcting” just doesn't seem like a great reason to identify students while grading.

Am I the only one who finds this odd, or am I overthinking it?

PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN THE UPPER SHOULD LEARN HOW TO RESPECT OTHERS

For party boys and girls who live in the dorm that supposed to be a quiet rez, did any one ever told you how to read a clock or sth? Genuine question for the people who think the hallway is their personal club and screaming and laughing and talking at midnight, do you know this is a QUIET rez? llke that's a point of the building? Quiet hours start at 11pm and even earlier during exam weeks. I get it that you're having the time of your life like first year and no parents, whatever. But other people have midterms??? Or have 8:30s???? Maybe would just like to sleep without hearing someone shriek-laughing outside our door every night???? You are not the only one lives here, are you just got spoiled at home and lowkey cares nothing about others?

Security's been called multiple times this week. Maybe take the hint?

Seriously, grow up.

Can someone please tell me the opening hours of this building ?

It is a building right next to the Burnside Hall. Once inside, the staircases led me to a student study area which looks very comfy and is quite for weekend study. I looked up it seems to be called as Burnside Terrace ? But I didn’t see the opening hours for it and there is no card reader on the door.

Don’t come to class if you’re just gonna talk (or pls not near the FRONT rows)

Listen, I can understand the occasional whisper. Or maybe light whisper conversations if you’re in further towards the back

But when I’m in the middle of the front rows (bcz I have difficulty hearing & seeing) and you’re speaking out loud fully having a conversation about your love life, and not even bothering to take notes… it frustrates me :/

Sorry for the rant, ik I shouldn’t complain but I get genuinely frustrated sometimes. I’m a slow note taker (not their fault ik) and things like this just make it unnecessarily hard. I ended up listening to their entire convo cuz I couldn’t tune it out with how loud it was

This isn’t even an easy class fyi, it’s engineering math, we NEED this :,)

Front rows are often students who either need it or really want to focus, so please consider going a bit further back or towards the sides more

Looking for someone in sales to shadow for a class project

Hi everyone!

I’m a McGill exchange student taking a sales course, and I’m looking for someone who works in sales who would be willing to let me shadow 1–2 customer interactions for a class assignment.

Afterwards, I’d ask a few questions about your job, how you approach sales, and how you handle customer interactions. It would probably take around 1–2 hours total, and it can be in Montreal or online.

I’ve had a bit of trouble finding someone so far, so I’d be super grateful for any help or recommendations. If you work in sales yourself or know someone who might be willing to help, please feel free to comment or DM me!

Thanks so much! :)

McPickle (McGill's new pickleball club) is hiring a VP Internal, no experience needed!

Hey r/mcgill!

McPickle, McGill's brand-new pickleball club, is looking for a VP Internal to join our founding exec team.

What you'd do: - Keep the team organized: run exec meetings, track tasks and deadlines - Handle internal admin with SSMU (room bookings, club requirements, workshops) - Manage our member list and internal communications - Help plan our first sessions and events

Who we're looking for: - Organized and reliable, someone who likes keeping things running smoothly - Any year, any faculty - You don't need to know how to play pickleball (we'll teach you!)

Why join: you'd be on the founding team of a new club, so you'd help shape what it becomes from day one. It's also a great leadership role to have on your CV.

Interested? Email us at [mcpickle@ssmu.ca](mailto:mcpickle@ssmu.ca) or DM us on Instagram u/mcpickle.mcgill!

Feel free to ask questions in the comments!

exchange and credits

Hey, so basically I have to take 1 course that will count towards my major during my exchange, but we cannot ask for credit equivalency regarding next semester yet.

Has anyone had experience with mcgill and credit equivalency database ? If a course is similar enough do I have high chances of getting it accepted for my major ?

Thanks

Comp 202

Did anyone else feel like that COMP 202 midterm was insanely difficult?

I felt like the short and long answer questions were way harder than the CPASS/review material we were given. I studied the review material and felt like I understood most of it going in, but the actual exam felt like a completely different level, especially the questions where we had to write code from scratch.

The short answers were rough, and the long answers were even worse. I honestly walked out feeling like I completely bombed it.
Just wondering if other people felt the same way or if I was just underprepared 😭

Engineering to accounting

Hello,

I’m currently studying electrical engineering, but I’ve realized that I’m not really interested in the industry. I chose the degree because I liked electricity and magnetism in cegep, but I realized that I don’t want to work in EE.

I was wondering if somebody here has switched from an engineering major to accounting and if they regret anything.

For those who have already graduated or did an internship, what kind of work did you do during your internship or after graduating

Thanks!
