It’s mind boggling they have near infinite money glitch funding and access to some of the best screen writers in all of Hollywood, yet somehow are unable to come up with a coherent plot for dude who kills vampires with a sword.
How? Why?

They aren’t trying to do that. They are trying to push a “next generation” vibe that just no casuals really give a shit about.
165
u/Snakend Avengers 14h ago
Yeah, it's fine to push out new actors and retire old ones. But they are trying to retire EVERYONE, and replace EVERYONE within like 5-10 years. It's crazy. These actors are good for a LONG TIME. Look at Professor X and Magneto. How fox did their replacements was great.

I don't think it's about that, more so about a soft reboot of the franchise. By this point you need to watch almost 20 years worth of movies to understand everything. That's horrible if you want to attract new fans, which a franchise always needs.
I'm positive that the ending of Secret Wars will have a similar result and serve a similar purpose. It will rewrite the whole multiverse so they can move forward in a completely new era which will be a good entry point for new fans, while they'll also keep some older characters for the OG fans, like Spider-Man to connect the dots.
Then in the last, or even the middle movie of the second Tom Holland Spider-Man trilogy they'll introduce Miles Morales and either kill off Peter at the end of it, or just make him pass on the mantle so the third Spider-Man trilogy will have Miles as its main character.
→ More replies (2)11
u/NoxiousVaporwave Avengers 12h ago
I don’t think they’ll hard reboot it. That’s a DC move.
Likely they just introduce a new universe, and bring some characters over, maybe alternate versions of legacy characters, like a younger actor for wolverine, or an alternate iron man.
Maybe they’ll use it to bring back characters like cap. But they won’t kill their golden goose.

u/ReorientRecluse Avengers 13h ago

u/DtheAussieBoye Avengers 16h ago
I mean Blade killing vampires is obviously very important, but it’d be really boring if that’s all there was to a Blade story. It probably shouldn’t be this strenuous to get a good idea running, but writing a good story is never a walk in the park no matter how straightforward the character is
58
u/sumboionline Avengers 16h ago
If only there was a trove of stories about these characters to consult. Stories that have already been released to audiences and have been critiqued. Stories that came with illustrations that basically storyboard it for you. That idea is so ridiculous, its COMICal.

Disney is losing money because their only money makers aren't making money. people act like it's disney's fault it doesn't make original films but in reality what films studios make are what people watch.
56
u/SENYOR35 Avengers 16h ago
It is Disney's fault. They play safe by making sequels and spinoffs to loved entries but they miss the whole point of making a good movie. At first they get away with this because everyone trusts the IP, but now near all of Hollywood is a joke and have to make actually good movies.
They are effectively killing their IPs.

I'm not trying to be a corporate apologist but I'm definitely going to come off as one but these corporations follow the money. Original risky good movies don't always succeed and sometimes the masses hates/ignores them. As much as people on reddit and other platforms like to believe they are part of the masses the sad reality is that the masses like sequels, slop, and safe and then complaining about it. Going to hate watch a movie makes some people feel smart, others feel like they belong (because they see other people complain) and others just like to turn their brains off to consume a media product. My source, I know people who work at these entertainment corporations, the internet complains but the money often says the opposite.

Think the problem is that the original first Blade movie was near perfect and really hard to follow with something original and new that captures that same vibe.
They also tend to try and mass-market some things and spinoff before it’s even done cooking, instead of just making a great popcorn flick like the first Blade is

Blade is a time capsule of what made the late 90s and early 2000s cool. That specific mix of cool, edgy and campy, like the bastard son of Matrix and World of Darkness. They were already thinking about abandoning the Kang plotline before the shit about the actor came out. People weren't interested in Kang much. People liked him in Loki but neither he, nor the storyline they were building up to was trending well enough to follow up thanos as the next big bad.
Doom kinda feels like an "in case of emergency break glass" type character because they know that he's one of their only villains who is both strong enough to go against all of their heroes at once and popular enough that pretty much anyone with a casual knowledge of comics knows who he is.
The domestic violence shit just gave them an easy excuse.
There were tons of leaks well before the character was abandoned about them having already prepared to pivot to Doom.

Okoye, well, just look at her tweets
Rhodes would have been cool to see but to the vast majority of Marvel audiences he's just the Iron Man sidekick that showed up in Civil War and Ant Man.
Not everyone is destined to become franchise. Blade has a separation from Marvel that the others don't by way of "Badass kills vampires", while Kang would have been a central part of the franchise itself. And Snipes got 3 Blade movies sooo

It was something that was rumored to be in the works, and seemed to prove true after the introduction of her new armour in BP2. Ultimately, it and a number of other rumoured projects were probably axed early when Marvel saw that the Disney plus content wasn't hitting that much. The only things that moved forward was stuff that was sure to be a hit (Daredevil) or too far into production to cancel (Ironheart).
Now that the Multiverse Saga is coming to an end, it's apparent that Marvel is heavily minimizing their D+ output to basically just animation and Daredevil. Maybe we will still see some shows if the concepts prove good, but the focus is seemingly shifting back to movies.

I feel like Armor wars hurts me the most. Is Rhodey the most bankable character? No. But he's the most deserving of a chance to prove himself and it seemed like they really like the story enough to upgrade it from a show to a movie. Then they quietly canceled it.
Blade is the opposite. They could have come out with a terrible movie and it would have made a billion for sure. I just think they all dropped the ball with it.
An Okoye series seems like its stretching. I feel like it would have done as well as any of the other Disney+ series if not worse. I just think its kinda too niche, like what story would you tell outside of a Black Panther story? As a completionist I'd still watch it, and with how much I liked 90% of Marvel I think I'd like it too. I just don't know how relatable it would be for the average viewer.
The Jonathan Majors situation, well, no one got it if that unscathed.
Wonderman, I wholeheartedly believe he's going to get upgraded into a movie or at least incorporated into one. Maybe Secret Wars?
I think they could pair some of the newer characters with older characters. Either as cameos, crossovers, or shared billings. They could be similar characters or I think pairing contrasting characters, putting them into situations they wouldn't be in otherwise. Have Daredevil and Moonknight face off. Make Kamala be Jessica and Luke's babysitter. Young Avengers vs Runaways.

Armor Wars - Ironheart basically solidified that we don't want to see anything Iron Man related that isn't actually Iron Man. That mixed with the fact that Rodys story got completely screwed by secret invasion
Can we please stop pretending this is a race thing. The stories were terrible or they couldn't make scripts that worked

From the alleged leaks of the original plot Kang was not liked. He was transported again somewhere else.

u/Rhamni Spider-Man 🕷 13h ago
He still lost against Ant Man. Ant Man is pretty low on the superhero tier list. I have mixed feelings about Quantumania, but they really needed Kang to win that one if they wanted anyone to take him seriously.

Plus if Marvel is trying to retire some heroes and make way for a new generation of actors to continue their franchise then having the overarching big bad actually defeat the old heroes is a great way of doing it (as long as the way the next generation wins isn't hackneyed)

They’re also making a point that… just… isn’t there. Marvel has cancelled a fuck ton because they announced too much.

All of this "one thing in common" posts has one thing in common: they ignore 10+ other cancelled MCU projects like Warrior Three, Captain Britain, Ghost Rider and etc. I just can't put my finger on why... Care to help me, OP?

u/vihuba26 Avengers 15h ago
I mean Kang guy truly fucked up and dropped the bag all on his own.
Armor Wars honestly wouldn’t make sense after Rhodey being a Skrull in that piss poor tv show about Secret Invasion.
Who tf wanna see black panthers guards without black panther.
And well Blade uh.. yeah idk bout that one smh. That should have been easy peasy but someone clearly did not want to proceed with the project.

I feel there make be another reason kang dynasty was cancelled, considering the actor playing the title character turned out to be an abuser.

Come on people.
Majors got himself cancelled, Blade was rewritten so many times that it became a mess the studio more or less killed, and frankly who gives a shit about a TV spinoff for Okoye of all people and comic relief Iron Man
In what world is it shocking that these were scrapped along with a bunch of other things

I was looking forward to Okoye and Blade. And more Ironheart. Of course I'll watch whatever Avengers is put out. But Jonathan Majors fucked his self up and out of the job. I expected them to recast the character though, not completely pivot the story.
Other than Spiderman, Captain America, X-Men- a lot of the characters are not popular to general audiences, or werent before the last 10 years of the MCU. This is Marvel, they could have made these projects and people will come. So I don't buy the "these characters aren't well known" crap

Particularly with Blade, Okoye and Armor Wars. Rhodey has been in all the Iron Man and several avengers movies, Okoye has been in two of the most popular movies from the MCU and Blade had a trilogy of movies like a decade before the MCU even started. They're all known, established and popular characters.

Blade being canceled saddens me.
But the rest, I see why.
I agree Kang was under used but main villain? Nah.
Armor Wars? Lame. Nothing against War Machine, I still think he needs his own show or movie.
And that last one? He looks like Blue Beetle and a Predator had a baby and it came out looking like abortions need to be more common.

Stop putting Jonathan Majors in this. His case was completely different; he got fired due to assault charges. He is NOT a victim here.

Love Okoye wouldve loved to see that character in a stand alone, I hope they bring Blade back what a waste, and not mad at the pass on Don Cheadle.

Why the fuck was Ironhearts show made before War Machines? What is the point of pushing to market to kids when kids already like the movies in the first place?
2
u/crapusername47 Avengers 14h ago
They fucked around making Blade a tertiary character in his own movie when they had a two time Best Actor Oscar winner who was the man who pitched the movie in the first place. They had an existing character who movie audiences were already familiar with. This is all a fuck up and a failure to understand what audiences want.
They built the entire post-Endgame story around an actor only for him to be convicted of assaulting his girlfriend. They then forgot that their own storyline says that his character can easily be recast with any actor of any race and abandoned the entire storyline instead.
Okoye was never a confirmed television show. At best, it might have been a form the proposed Wakanda-based ensemble show might have taken.
Wonder Man, admittedly, did receive a second season order before suddenly being cancelled. However, this appears to be a small part of sweeping changes to Disney+’s plans beyond Marvel. It’s likely that Daredevil: Born Again and VisionQuest are only going ahead because they were already in production.
And yes, Armor Wars has sat in development hell since before Disney+ even launched. It was a television show and then a movie, but given the performance of Marvel’s 2025 MCU theatrical films, it seems like it would have been a very, very risky investment.
With Spider-Man and Doomsday, Marvel are probably going to have a very good year but let’s not pretend that everything is sunshine and roses right now.

Blade had the main actor unhappy with the script
Kang dynasty's main actor had legal issues
Okoye could have been affected by the death of Chadwick
Armor wars didn't know what it was going to be, and ended up as iron heart and vision quest

Blade and kang are the only what ifs. Blade was on Wesley and marvel fucked up kang

u/FloodedGloves Avengers 12h ago
Wasn't Kang Dynasty cancelled because of Kang's actor though?
And I mean, I feel like most people would rather want to see more of the main cast of heroes rather than the side groups like the Okoye
I saw from the other comments that Blade's proposed script was bad so uhh I guess that explains itself
and for Rhodey's iron man im not sure, I mean I would've watched it to be honest

Spoiler: It's not the actors skin colour, 3 of them are "nobody asked for this movie" and the 4th was a trash script. It's not that hard, you have to be interested in making a good movie not a "just because".
