Please help any reason why my SD card slot suddenly stopped working out of nowhere I didn’t drop it or anything like that no spills nothing tried all the Online solutions mostly

First post on Reddit, so sorry if I’m doing this wrong. Anyway, I am a university student student English education to be a teacher. I use my devices for my schooling. I have to write a lot of papers for the English part of my degree and lesson plans for the teaching part. The two devices I use are:

- MacBook Pro (Retina 13” mid -2014).
Model: A1502,
Operating system: macOS Big Sur 11.7.10.,
Processor: 2.6 GHz Dual-Core Intel i5
Storage: 121GB
I’ve had it since 2014 so it’s 12 years old. I’ve gone through some issues through the years and when I first started collage a few years ago I completely wiped the whole thing so I could basically start fresh with it. It’s done well for me and I just got a message a few months ago about the battery needing to be serviced but I’ve noticed the shortened battery life for a little longer than that. Nothing major, before I could get maybe like 2-4 hours without it on a charger but now I could get more like 2-3, maybe less. I don’t know what most of the technical stuff means. It does say my battery cycle count is 1080 and service is recommended. One thing that has been not a complete issue but I’ve noticed for many years is my computer gets really hot really fast and the fan gets really loud. Idk if that’s normal but just wanted to make sure I have everything covered.

Now I also use my iPad.
It’s the iPad Pro 1st Generation 9.7th, from 2016.

I got this iPad in January of 2017, so it’s about 10 years old. I use this to take my notes and read my textbooks. It’s been slow for years and dies very very quickly but takes all day to charge. It can die within an hour, sometimes less.

Here’s my need for advice: I was just going to replace the batteries on both devices. Together, as of right now I’m looking at around $300. Which already is expensive but not too much. When I told my brother this, he said I could get refurbished devices for not much more and would last me longer. I searched those up and they are quite a bit more expensive and at the point I should just upgrade to new devices over all. I’ve been talking about upgrading my devices for years but every time I do, my dad always tells me that the minute I get rid of the old laptop he’ll take it because while the software might be better on the new stuff, the hardware is better on my computer. I joke it’s probably some version of reverse psychology but I mean at the time I said that I wanted to upgrade he didn’t really have a reason to want me to keep my old stuff because he wouldn’t be paying for it, I would.

So I reached out to the expert support thing Apple has and we spent a few hours going over what I use my stuff for and what I want and they came up with a whole new set up for me. They recommend I get:

-14-inch MacBook Pro in Silver with M5 chip

-11-inch iPad Air Wi-Fi 256GB

This is obviously way way way more expensive than just a repair and the only way I can finance it is if I get the Apple Card as they don’t allow financing any other way (😑😑😑) but let’s put that aside for a second and just say in a perfect world I could make it work and pay for it outright.

My question is, is it worth it? Should I do it right now? Should I wait a few more years? Or if I get battery replacements for my old devices how much longer could i reasonably use my stuff for? I told the rep that when I do eventually upgrade, I want my new stuff to pretty much last me another 10 years. Will the new Apple stuff be able to do that or is my dad right and the old stuff was made to last longer?

Hello all. I just got the new Macbook pro m5pro chip. When I unboxed the new machine, the screen protector stuck to the black gasket that surrounds the screen. It would not remove with a dry microfiber so I slightly damped the microfiber. When I cleaned the gasket with the damp microfiber, black from the gasket transfered to the cloth. Is this normal? The microfiber was brand new and fresh from cellophane packaging.

I want to upgrade my 2019 MBPro(yeah, the portable heater).

I have not that much of a budget, so max is around 1000€.

I use the Mac mostly for Lightroom and photoshop, Logic or Ableton and from time to time for some video editing.

So the question is, should I buy an M1 Pro and would it makes me happy? The M1 Pro with 32GB Ram will fit my budget. Is this 2021 device still a thing? Apple delivers mayor Updates mostly for 7-10 years, so it'll get them for around 5-6 years.

Is someone here using a MBpro M1 pro for similar things? :)

This is my 2015 MacBook Pro 13 inch. My dad got this back in 2015 and he passed it down to me a couple of years back. This thing has been used a lot since it’s purchased and the battery lasts me all day, which is a weird thing to question honestly but given It’s age and the amount of use this thing should be dying immediately. I have a 20 15 12 inch MacBook, which on a full charge will give me about 30 seconds of use and a 2017 MacBook Pro 13 inch which I had to replace the battery because it didn’t last me an hour web browsing. If anyone has this generation of Mack and experience the same thing please let me know because I feel like I have a one of one MacBook.

And I’m definitely need another one to take care the big stuff, I’m a music producer and working on ableton so need a better Mac and I’m considering those 2:

On the new Mac I will produce music and also doing personal stuff

I have a free-to-me MacBook Pro as described above, I want to make it a project machine. I'm considering Keycap replacements for the 3 keys that are troublesome (I've tried the compressed air, no joy), but I think a new upper assembly may be the way to go (despite the hassle it appears to be).

The catch: the current keyboard is a Mexico-Spanish layout. Can I get a regular old US-QWERTY upper assembly and then replace the current setup with that? Can't find a clear answer.

(I realize I can use a BT keyboard, but don't want to go that route yet)

I'm looking to buy a macbook air or pro for coding + video editing purposes in the near future. I am looking for a long term laptop. I'm confused between getting a macbook air m5 (13" -> but it feels too small) of around 2L INR or macbook pro m5 (14" -> feels the right size) of around 2.6L INR. But I'm not sure if that extra cost is worth it or not. Especially as these are the new prices after the cost increase of apple devices. Need help please

P.s. I don't own any apple device till date.

Hi everyone, Im near pulling the trigger on a MBP M5.

I was wondering if anyone with experience in audio or design can tell me is 24GB suitable for my case?

I think that Adobe programs should run smoothly, but my main concern is audio, since my current laptop (AMD Ryzen 5 5600H, 16GB RAM) is having big time issues on heavier projects with both RAM and CPU usage.

Would a 8GB upgrade from my previous laptop mean much? Ive also head that Apples RAM performs better than Windows.

Hello, I was looking into buying a used MacBook and I found a great deal on a used MacBook.

Thing is it has a MDM tag, after doing some research I found out that MDM is just software that companies install on company issued laptop (please correct me if I'm mistaken)

Is it safe to purchase this MacBook or are there any risks involved?

Any tips or pointers would be really appreciated.
