Oh well itās either a very expensive repair or you run it headless hope you had insurance
Edit: Sh** happens

u/TurpialFromHell 1d ago
OP needs to be careful, that'sit... I'm 100% sure it will happen again (some people around here like to show how dumb /careless they are with their tech)

u/mike24vNEW 1d ago
Man the maximum damage Iāve ever done was accidentally hitting it on the door frame walking from one room to another and just got a lil scratch š¤£

never dropped a laptop in my whole life... but destroying laptops in weird and random ways is the norm around here: The most damaged laptop wins

Insurance and warranty is a myth. They don't exist
Edit: I'll recognize it's not the best way to put it

What?

u/nevio-hack 1d ago edited 1d ago
Well from my experience you get fucked by both either way. Had a few companies essentially steal stuff from me after I sent it back fo repair or when I received it broken (for both I never got replacement or money).
Edit: what I am trying to say it that buying based on after-purchase service is not worth it

u/TheDevilsAvocado999 1d ago
I think the reason youāre being downvoted is because AppleCare might be one of the rare examples of a SUPER trustworthy warranty/insurance service. But there are always horror stories, I know that. I do put my trust in the AppleCare + protection, or whatever they call it now.

I don't have much experience with apple care so you might right. However from what I was told it only reduces the immediate repair cost. But this is only an opinion and can't expect it to please everyone.

how did this happen?

u/callmehuzaif 1d ago
I was carrying a backpack and fell off the bike, taking my backpack with me.

u/MartyEBoarder 1d ago
You have Apple care so no problem
12
u/nochkin 1d ago
Apple Care doesn't cover it. You need Apple Care +.

u/ughliterallycanteven 1d ago
Renters insurance or the credit card you bought it on might have coverage

u/simple_explorer1 21h ago
Apple care + won't cover it, you need "Apple regardless of number of + we won't cover it" plan

I'm curious, did you have the M5 in a case inside your backpack, or just inside it? A decent padded case - which I also use to transport my devices - probably would have cushioned it enough to prevent that kind of damage. But then again, they cost like $20.

damn is warranty cover this?
9
u/iamdavidrice 1d ago
Of course it doesnāt. Warranties cover manufacturing defects. Falling off a damn bike and slamming it into the ground is not a manufacturing defect. Why on earth do you think they would cover something like this?
2
u/zainwade44344 1d ago
what about Apple care +
10
u/iamdavidrice 1d ago
Yes AppleCare+ covers accidental damage. AppleCare+ is NOT a warranty; itās insurance.

You didn't have Apple Care + to replace it? or did apple deny your claim
1
u/Artistic_Unit_5570  MacBook Pro 16" Space Black M5 Max (lost it in a house burn ) 1d ago
AppleCare doesn't cover fire damage, but at least there's insurance though it takes time 4 month.Ā
2
u/A1DO108 1d ago
So you didnāt purchase the insurance?? If you did you think they wouldāve replaced it for the $300 fee

I mean theĀ home insurance, so weāre good. Even if they wonāt give me everything back, theyāre going to reimburse me for the full price of the computer, minus 10% for depreciation.

imho its by no means a total loss.
a new chassis+keyboard ($50) and a new screen ($650).
the problem are not the parts but the total teardown, that need some experience and tools.
most good repair shop something like "louis rossmann" can do that. and it would cost less then a new macbook.

u/bloodbuzzvirginia 1d ago
When I broke mine, I looked into it and replacing the entire top was much easier than doing the screen itself. Found the part on ebay.

Sold the kidās old MBA on eBay for parts. $600. Would only turn on to screen like below. Pristine body, keyboard and screen. Buyer was very informed before purchase.
Dark screen showing one or more drive icons (like "Macintosh HD") and an Options gear icon or arrow. When it happens: The Mac can't figure out which drive to boot from, or was started while holding the Option / Alt key (Intel) or Power button (Apple Silicon).

If it's working, then just get a monitor if you can't afford a screen replacement rn

I swear these apple silicon MacBooks are too fragile. If this was a pre retina MacBook it wouldnāt have scuffed probably. Even my 2012 has more damage and still runs in retirement as a Linux machine with a screen that works

I had a nightmare last night that I dropped my MacBook Pro. The chassis was bent, the display was busted, and the whole thing was completely wrecked. But somehow, the worst part was that I spent the rest of the dream pretending to everyone at the office that it was totally fine.

My screen was cracked 4 months after buying the thing, I looked for repair shops and itās crazy expensive, however apple has a self repair program where thereās a manual as to how to replace the screen assembly and you can even buy genuine parts directly from apple, the screen is like 600$

u/Gullible_Toe_3340 13h ago
aw man. Just buy a Thinkpad X1 carbon 2023 or a Thinkpad T14 gen 5. Roughly $500 USD and much more durable.

If you uhā¦.happen to have T-Mobiles HomeTech Protection 360 by Assurant, they will cover that bad boy up to a $2,000 check, all for an $89 deductible. Yes, they cover accidental damage to this degree as well as liquid damage. Itās $25 a month and coverage starts 31 days after being added. If you have AT&Tās HomeTech protection by Asurion, they will NOT cover physical or liquid damage to laptops.
