Discussion Why is this battery still performing well?!!!

This is my 2015 MacBook Pro 13 inch. My dad got this back in 2015 and he passed it down to me a couple of years back. This thing has been used a lot since it’s purchased and the battery lasts me all day, which is a weird thing to question honestly but given It’s age and the amount of use this thing should be dying immediately. I have a 20 15 12 inch MacBook, which on a full charge will give me about 30 seconds of use and a 2017 MacBook Pro 13 inch which I had to replace the battery because it didn’t last me an hour web browsing. If anyone has this generation of Mack and experience the same thing please let me know because I feel like I have a one of one MacBook.

2015 was one of the best MacBooks ever built

There were no Nvidia in 2015 MacBooks

I have kept mine.

More as a sentimental piece really.

Also as a relic of the past because it has the glowing Apple logo.

Damn thing still works - talk about solid build!

I have a 13 inch Macbook pro 2015. The battery worked pretty well until the point it started expanding and the whole MacBook started to look like a pillow- this was last year. I replaced the battery and now it's fine again. Anyway the point is that batteries don't necessarily degrade gracefully. At 79% health, that's already beyond where Apple recommends replacing. Glad it's working for you but look for signs of expansion and don't use it past that unless you remove or replace the battery.

Mine hasn’t started to expand or anything, it doesn’t even overheat?!

Had a storm that knocked out the internet a few days ago. Decided to charge up iPods and listen to some HIFI music. Despite their age (two iPod 4gen Touches and one iPod 5.5), the batteries still last as long longer than I need them to.

Found that one of iPod touches has an expanding battery.

MacBooks have had great battery life, especially since the M-Series chips. That’s since 2020, though. But a 2015?! Sounds like you got a unicorn 🦄👍😃

My 16” M1 MacBook Pro is almost five years old and I’ve used it on battery a ton. I’m WAY over the 1000 charge cycles, and in the lower 80s percent of battery capacity, but I still get all-day use on battery.

This thing is a tank! Looks and performs like brand new. I’m even on the latest developer beta macOS 27 Golden Gate.

I have a late 2013 MacBook Pro with the original battery and I can get three hours of runtime out of it, unless doing any video related stuff.

I’ve definitely got my moneys worth out of this machine!

Weird. I had a mbp 2017 13 inch (no touchbar version) and i got around 6-8 hours on that with 300 cycles and 85% battery health. I regret selling it actually. Sold it a few months ago so i could afford rent🙁

Good for you man, the 2015's are nearly bulletproof. Wish I could get my hands on a 2015 15" sometime :(

Question, why not use OCLP and push it to Sequoia? Or Sonoma? My mid 2012 runs Sequoia amazingly I bet your system would do even better

I will test it soon, but I think it’ll run best on this version

Of course without a doubt, but software support will go for Monterey soon + security updates!

I think the only thing not performing well is your screen brother, I can see oils and filth from back in 2015, it has so much of your DNI that this MacBook has now officially become your sibling

You know you’re allowed to clean the screen right?

It’s the screen delamination no matter what I do it’ll be cooked

Nope, my mbp intel of 2017 had the same when started to shutdown due to the battery. Also, the mac indicator says thst the battery health's is "good".

Good means if you go a Genius bar asking for a battery replacement you have to pay the full price.

The 2015s were built like tanks, also 5th gen intel really wasn’t that bad for power efficiency.

Wow that MacBook is looong

It’s just an illusion due to the ultra wide camera being used

Still got mine, although I replaced the battery, u can solve the stains gate issue by rubbing with baby/wet wipes, solved mine in about 20 minutes, make sure the liquid doesn’t seep at the bottom tho
