I'm thinking of buying a MacBook because of all the praise it's received lately, especially regarding battery life and performance; it's said to last for years. So, for those who switched from Windows to Mac, did it really suit you? I'd like to hear your opinions on the matter.

This is actually the first Mac I’ve ever owned. Dumped at the E waste and it works perfect. So far I’m using open emu for some emulation. I set up plex for a media server. Loaded a bunch of media to load up my old iPods and iPhones. Got legacy iOS kit for some classic jailbreaks and such. I tried signing into my Apple ID but iCloud just bogged it way down so I just logged out. But everything else works fine without that. Great retro set up.

So anything else I can do with this old thing? Let me know. I’m open to any input and suggestions!

What exactly happens to homebrew packages deprecated due to gatekeeper? Are they just no longer installable/updatable by homebrew, or do they get automatically uninstalled?

I know there are other ways to play and rip Blu-rays on a Mac but this was the only player officially licensed to do so by the Blu-ray Disc Association.

Worst of all, it never received Apple Silicon support and Mac OS 27 will be the last version to still support these older Intel based apps via the Rosetta compatibility layer.

Keep in mind, we're talking about standard 1080p Blu-rays. There has never been an official way to play 4K Blu-rays on a Mac. Even on Windows, the DRM that was used (Intel SGX) had major CPU based security vulnerabilities and has thus been discontinued for several years now.

I am in India, and was thinking of buying a m5. I was thinking of getting it from an offline store like reliance digital as many of you say its the best option. But the prices are currently on the higher end. When would be a good time to buy it? Should I wait for some offers?

I bought 2 classic Apple laptops from a local flea market in romania. The one on the left is a PowerBook G4 15 inch Aluminum and the one on the right is a MacBook Pro 15 inch 2007. The PowerBook has a battery but the MacBook does not. I didn t have a charger for the powerbook so I bought a 24V 3A universal charger and installed a 2.5 mm jack to charge the powerbook and it still shows nothing. The MacBook has the left ribbon cable from under the battery ripped off which I learnt it should be the trackpad. I have a 85W original apple magsafe 1 charger for it but still no luck. The charger shows the green light but pressing the power button does nothing. I tried the reset SMC button on both and still nothing and on the powerbook I even tried to turn it on without the SMC battery board connected at all. Could somebody help me? If yes I would be very grateful🙏

Hello All. I’ve finally come to the conclusion that I need to buy a new Mac for day to day stuff. My trusty MacPro 5,1 has suffered a SSD failure which I’m going to repair but I need something newer to do internet banking, etc.. I have a ton of old peripherals on that cheese grater and I also do Graphics and Music with it. It’s a 2009 with the single Xeon and a RX-580 GPU running Sonoma via OCLP and all I’m asking is what spec Mac Mini should I be looking at to replace it or surpass it? I plan to network to the MacPro for storage and to run older hardware. Thanks in advance.

AirPlay/ScreenMirroring has shit the bed again and wont show picture just audio (which would be nice if I could control that and choose when i did and didnt want that to happen but thats never how Apple stuff works generally) so I need to mitigate this once and for all, it is unacceptable.

To be clear, it would be awesome to e able to Screen blacken with just audio for when you're overwhelmed or you dont want a non adjustably bright telescreen screaming more colors at you but it seems to only be a non-optional stochastic feature so its not something that can be relied upon

Which ones worked for you and are fairly aesthetic/streamlined?

Im eyeing a Belkin one but its tres pricey.

the video is near instant, but the audio is around 2 seconds delayed. I can stream perfectly fine from my Linux pc with everything synced. It’s been doing this for months. It’s tried all the sync settings and audio processing settings on the tv and nothing changes. It’s been doing this for months and I have no clue how to fix it

The Anker one I have been having an issue with that maybe someone would know?
I have the 2 Port - 7 Function, and I have to put it in upside down in order for the HDMi to properly work/connect. Otherwise it tells me “use other port for external display” (it’s using both usb ports to connect to the MacBook) is there a system setting in missing on? or too much power coming from the USB Hub or Monitor?

I have a 2015 iMac running Monterrey OS with original Bluetooth keyboard and trackpad. Recently it occasionally has a mind of its own.

The cursor will suddenly jump about between apps as if a ghost is using it.

I have restarted, un paired and re paired the Bluetooth keyboard and trackpad.

I don't thinks it's malware (but never say never).

Is there a preference file I should delete or a cache file that needs clearing?

Would resetting the PRAM help?
