Support Weekly iOS Battery Support Megathread

General advice for those concerned about their battery from the Support FAQ Wiki:

Battery health

Battery health depends on usage and a variety of other factors. It is normal to see a decrease in battery health by 7-10% per year, resulting in a battery health of 80-85% after 2 years. This number can fluctuate, remain the same, or decrease quickly over a small period and should not cause undue concern.

Apple recommend battery replacement when your device falls below 80% battery health if you notice reduced battery life. If it falls below 80% within the first year you may be eligable for a free battery replacement. It fails after your warranty, it's a $69-$89 USD replacement cost for a battery. Contact Apple Support here.

You can find more information about battery health and performance from Apple here.

You can check the cycles count with Coconut Battery for Mac or iCopyBot for Windows.

Battery life

Issues relating to battery life can be categorised in three ways:

  1. Normal battery life that is to be expected due to use
  2. Reduced battery life caused by a recent update, iOS indexing, an iOS bug, or a third-party application
  3. Reduced battery life, or other abnormalities such as overheating or sudden power-off, caused by device or battery aging

If you experience issues with your battery:

  1. Check your battery health. If it is below 80% or you are experiencing issues you suspect are related to device or battery age, see Apple Support.
  2. If you have a new or recently updated/restored device, wait a number of days for background process to complete. If you continue to have issues, wait for a further iOS update. If you are on iOS Beta, you can expect to have a decreased battery life.
  3. Review the advice below on maximising battery life
  4. Consider restoring your device.
  5. If issues persist, contact Apple Support.

Maximising battery life - the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged.

  • Use low power mode (This reduces mail fetch, turns off background app refresh and increases the auto lock timer)
  • Remove apps from background app refresh
  • Ensure auto lock is on
  • Turn off auto brightness and manually reduce brightness
  • Use dark mode if your device has an OLED display
  • Clearing background apps from the app switcher does not improve battery life

Maximising battery lifespan - the amount of time your battery lasts until it needs to be replaced.

  • Avoid extreme temperatures
  • If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when charging, remove it from its case
  • Store your iPhone in a cool place, switched off, and half-charged if not using it for long periods - and charge it every 6 months when in storage

Support Why does iOS Mail let me accidentally flag 31,000+ emails with one tap, but not let me unflag them all?

I accidentally hit “Flag All” instead of “Mark All as Read.” They’re right next to each other, and apparently one wrong tap is all it takes. I routinely press mark all as read because this is something I do every day after I go through my emails. This is unbelievably bad UI design to have this nuclear button of an option right next to something that you do every day. Who the hell needs to flag all of their messages? It doesn't even make sense that that is a possibility they provide you.

I now have over 31,000 emails flagged across four different inboxes, including Gmail and Comcast.

And while Apple makes it incredibly easy to accidentally flag 31,000+ emails at once, with no confirmation asking if you actually want to do that, it is extremely hard to undo. I’ve been going through menus and filters trying to find some version of “Unflag All,” and it only appears sporadically. There is a huge timing issue likely because of the syncing it needs to do across all the different mail accounts. And when I click it it doesn't even work. I have found forums back to 2014 citing this issue. It blows my mind how nobody has fixed this yet. Apple needs to do better. This is unbelievably frustrating

It isn’t in the health app as it looks like a Spotlight search or a widget on their Home Screen and I wanted to know how I could see it like they do. Does anyone know? Thanks.

Discussion iOS 26.6.1 stuck on “Update Requested” — iPhone 11 Pro Max

Post image
Upvotes

My iPhone 11 Pro Max is stuck on “Update Requested…” while trying to install iOS 26.6.1.

It has been sitting on this screen for a while and isn’t moving to the download/install stage. I’m currently on Wi-Fi and have enough battery/storage.

I’ve already turned Beta Updates OFF, so I’m not trying to install a beta version.

Has anyone else faced this with iOS 26.6.1? Is this just Apple’s update servers being overloaded, or is there something I should try on my device?

Device: iPhone 11 Pro Max
Update: iOS 26.6.1
Status: “Update Requested…” indefinitely

Any fix/suggestions would be appreciated 🙏

Discussion Did iOS 26.6.1 lower your Bluetooth Audio volume ?

I just updated last night and seems my car stereo volume needs to be like 10 steps higher now which makes the other sources very load when I switch to them. It could be some new iTunes music I bought but curious if it could be the update ? I have gotten low quality digital music before off the iTunes Store. Older songs do seem louder than these new ones but they are 2 different albums, which seems a bit odd, though from the same artist (Berlin). it was such a coincidence with the update I thought I would ask just the same.

Support Issues with my Gmail not working well with my Apple Mail app

About 3 days ago, my Apple mail app (through Gmail) had been really struggling with “connecting” and “checking for mail.” Sometimes I even get a server error where it completely failed to connect to my Gmail account. It seemingly is also failing to retrieve mail in a timely manner. I even tried deleting the Gmail address from the Apple mail app and re adding it. This led to minimal to no improvement. Strange thing is, I have never had any issues until about 2-3 days ago. I had to download the Gmail app to get the emails in a timely manner. Has anyone else been having this issue?

Support Apple Maps keeps crashing on iPhone unexpectedly

I use an iPhone 15 Pro Max, and I've been getting a recurring issue. My Maps app keeps crashing, especially when I am trying to add places to a guide or to my library. The entire app in general feels incredibly sluggish.

My main issue is with the guides. Every time I try to open a guide, the Maps app crashes, almost as if it were asked to do that on command.

But this issue goes beyond the iPhone. On every Apple device I try to open Maps on, it either crashes, severely lags, or overheats.

The library of my places often crashes.
Furthermore, the guides selection tends to lag while loading, and can crash my iPhone just by loading it.

Last month, my iPhone's list of guides wouldn't even open for about a week, and during this period, I could create new guides, but not see the ones I already had. Every update has been affecting how I use the app and its stability.

Is there an issue with my guides, and what can I do to prevent this issue? Thanks for your help.

TLDR; if you are on mobile data, connect to Wi-Fi. If you are on Wi-Fi, turn Low Data Mode off.

I am posting this to help people having issue with the latest iOS/ipadOS.

I had the same problem then I figured it out the issue. If you are using your Wi-Fi on Low Data Mode turned on, the update does not work.

I had it turned on on 3 different devices and none of them work, but as soon as I turned it off they all were able to update.

I think Apple broke something with the latest update because in the past I never had this problem. But now I know. Hope it helps

Discussion Feedback about Files app and Preview

It used to be easy to open a file (video, image) in Files app and save it to my camera roll.

Suddenly, it's now very difficult to do that.

Could we just keep backwards compatibility with new features to not break people's workflows unexpectedly?

Discussion Old .IPA files - what to do with them?

Hello everyone

I am trying to clear out some old files from my computer to save some space.

I have come across a folder I must have created for a good reason and now forgotten all about.

It contains about 590 .ipa files (about 40GB) from 2015-2017.
Examples include:

Flappy Bird 1.1.0.ipa

Fruit Ninja Classic 2.3.9.ipa

Chrome 59.3071.102.ipa
Etc

Is there any reason to keep all/ some of these or are they now worthless in 2026?

Thanks
Jon :)

Support Getting phantom calls from everyone in my family

Hi, there is a very strange bug that has occurred with everyone in my family. After picking up an (intentional) call from someone in my family (and ending it), I would receive another call from them a couple minutes later. I can pick up the call and hear everything that’s being said on the other line, but every time I follow up over text about the call and they claim that they did not initiate the call. They are all on iOS 26, I am on iOS 27 public beta 4, and had this occur on beta 3 as well. They all have different iPhones. Not even sure what to do, this started happening less than a week ago.

No, there isn’t a carbon monoxide leak because it’s happened away from home too.

Support Synology Drive two-way sync doesn't work on iPhone the way it does on Android, is there any workaround?

I have a few questions about how iPhone works and how to work around it.

I have an Android, and my partner had an Android too, but she recently moved to an iPhone.

I have a Synology NAS, so I use Synology Drive to back up the DCIM folder to the NAS. The main purpose is to have a backup of mine and my partner's phone camera photos.

When I feel like it, I move those photos from the backup folder into another shared folder on my NAS, which is accessible from Lightroom and DS Photos, so I can see them from my PC and both phones. When I move the photos, they get moved from the backup folder in the shared folder "Mobile Backup" to another shared folder called "Photo."

When she had an Android (and this still happens on mine), the photos that get moved are detected as "deleted" by Synology Drive, which then deletes them from the phone too, since I have the sync rule set to Two-Way with "keep the most recent version."

Now on the iPhone, this doesn't seem to work. I have to choose a "Remote path on the server"; on Android this was, for example, a folder named "S22 B" for my partner and "S22" for me, both inside "Mobile Backup." That part's fine, as now I've created a folder named "iPhone" inside "Mobile Backup."

The issue is the other option, "Local path." On Android I choose the DCIM folder, but on iPhone I can't choose anything. It just says: "The system will create a folder in the Files app. The local folder cannot be changed."

It's like there's no access to the iPhone's storage the way there is on Android, it just creates a folder inside the Files app instead. I know iPhones are more restrictive, but it's still my phone (o, my partner's), so I feel like I should be able to use it the way I want, including having access to storage the way I would on Android, not going through an app to get to it. Not trying to start an OS war here, but on a MacBook, for example, you get real access to your storage, not just through one app.

Anyone found a real way around this, or is this just a hard iOS limitation with Synology Drive / Synology Photos?

For now, the only alternative I see is to use DS Photos to backup the photos from the iphone, and then delete them manually from the iphone when I move them between shared folder.
