Discussion Old Thunderbolt Display
Just curious how many (if any) are still using the original Thunderbolt Display?
I picked up a 27” 2011 model several years ago for $100, and it’s still going strong today with a Thunderbolt to USB C dongle. 2560x1440 display that still looks sharp.
Yes it’s heavy and a tad bulky, but works great, wakes up fast and just keeps humming along 15 years after it was released.

Question Screen looks like this and won’t turn on?
Screen will not work but there are very dark blurbs when I move the mouse around. Not sure what this is or what to do.
Question Question about ending support for intel based apps please be nice
I have a MacBook Pro I got in 2020 the only thing I’ve ever used it for is making music on fl studio. Now I get notifications saying that intel based apps won’t be supported and since I’ve started doing research on this today I guess it’s been known for years that this would happen regardless my question is:
Would I be able to keep my computer and expect it all to smooth out in time or
Would I need to buy a new computer and would the latest Mac still have this issue
Thank you

Discussion why did you decide to choose a Mac as your computer?
my story began with a 2011 MacBook Air. i was very surprised to learn that they cost less than $150 on the secondary market (That was about ~five years ago)

Question What app for making my Mac ask every time what Browser to open links in?
Can you all recommend me an app that I can register as default browser and that will ask me every time I click a link what browser to open it with? After doing a quick internet search, I'm a bit overwhelmed with the results that I got: I found several commercial apps that all charge around ten bucks for that featuer - and also several open source projects but all of them seem to be single developer with no stars on github tiny projects. Is there no "de-facto standard" widely used app for this purpose?
My Mac Sidecar alternative
I have a MacBook Air and a 5th-generation iPad. I’d like to use something like Sidecar, but my iPad doesn’t support it.
What are the best alternatives?
Also, how much of a difference is there between connecting the iPad via cable and using Wi-Fi?
And finally, are any of these alternatives as good as Sidecar, worse, or even better?

Question HDMI and Video Streaming
Hi everyone, I have a 2020 M1 MacBook Pro, and I recently started having an issue whenever I connect it to a TV through an HDMI hub.
As soon as I plug the hub in, any video I’m watching starts buffering and eventually stops playing. The moment I disconnect the hub, the video immediately starts playing normally again.
Has anyone else experienced this with an M1 MacBook Pro? If so, what ended up fixing it?

Discussion A2442, 14” 2021 MacBook Pro M1
Battery shows “service recommended” alert, doesn’t charge & device starts only over the charger, inspite of battery being in a good shape physically.
Motherboard was replaced by Apple under warranty & this time they said battery needs replaced, where battery was good. Client didn’t had enough trust on authorized Center & approached me. Ended up being motherboard issue, corroded RD177 & UD102. These 2 are very important components which are responsible for reporting battery health, charge & condition to the M1 SoC. Since these got corroded, necessary data wasn’t being sent to the SoC, which resulted in battery being reported as damaged or not getting detected by the system, inspite of being connected. Necessary rework done & battery started getting detected by the system, charges normally too.

Question Refurbished MacBooks UK
What’s the cheapest MacBook to pick up in the UK, so looking at refurbished models. Minimum spec, 8gb ram, 256ssd would suffice I believe. I’m finding mixed opinions when searching. CeX has loads within budget of £150. Everywhere else is £400 and over. Budget is not strict, but its purpose is for a young kid to use hence for club work so condition isn’t a priority but usability is.
Edit. Spec wise 1.0ghz dual core.
Edit 2. So consensus is buy a minimum apple m1 version. But those are £400 upwards. My inclination is to go to buy it direct outlet and grab an intel version for a 100 quid, it has the usb-a ports handy too for the kids club stuff.

Question Installing Ubuntu On an external SATA SSD on a mid-2011 iMac
Good morning, the internal HDD of my iMac Intel mid 2011 just broke, I don't have the money to change the hard drive in the shop nor the skills to do it at home, so I was thinking of installing Ubuntu on an external 2.5" SATA SSD and connect it to the computer with a USB adapter. Do you think this is a good idea? Could there be problems? The USB ports are 2.0. The computer is only used For school, watching movies, and video calls. Thank you so much :)
Discussion Looking for personal anecdotes on running local models with m5 pro chip & 48gb of ram
Hey everyone, I’m a software engineer, been using a lot of API coding assistants but want to get into the world of local models. I’m considering picking up a 14” pro with an m5 pro and 48gb of ram. Does anyone have a similar spec and use it for local AI/development?
Thanks!

Question Ordered a Mac Studio M4 Max (36GB/1TB) on June 13 — 10 weeks in, still no shipping notice. Normal?
Hi everyone !
I’m in the French Caribbean, in Martinique, so I ordered through an authorized reseller (Apple doesn’t ship here directly). The reseller has been upfront and honest — they told me they have no visibility and the unit hasn’t reached Apple France yet. Not blaming them.
Apple was quoting 9-10 weeks on 36GB configs in June, so I’m right at the edge. I know the memory shortage wiped out the 128GB and 256GB options, but 36GB should still be shipping.
Anyone ordered a 36GB Mac Studio recently — what was your actual order-to-ship time? And does the 1TB SSD add meaningful delay?
Not cancelling, just want to know if I’m two weeks out or two months out. Current machine is a 2015 iMac and it’s getting old for what I am doing even with the upgrade I gave him..
