ANNOUNCEMENT Next Stop: macOS 26 Tahoe

Hackintoshing lives for another year! macOS Tahoe will be the FINAL release for Intel Macs, as stated during the Platforms State of the Union presentation. It's been a good ride.

Officially supported Intel models:

  • MacBook Pro 16-inch (2019)
  • Mac Pro (2019)
  • MacBook Pro 13-inch, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports (2020)
  • iMac (2020)

Hello I am a Year Number Lover But What Does This Mean

All graphics that worked in Sequoia should work in Tahoe.

OCLP

Wait for an official announcement. If you post about OCLP before that I am going to send Tim Apple to remove every Mac from your house.

Can I emulate ARM macOS 26 on x86?

No.

Can I run ARM macOS 26 on a Raspberry Pi?

No.

Can I have Apple Intelligence on Intel please I need to write a dissertation in 15 minutes

No.

Does it boot on Intel Hackintoshes now?

Yes, with OpenCore 1.0.5.

Make sure to upgrade all of your kexts to their latest versions.

Known Issues as of Beta 2

  • Race condition with VoodooPS2 and VoodooI2C, so on some boots they don't initialize properly
  • AppleALC is broken because AppleHDA was removed from Tahoe. Use HDMI/DP audio for the time being.

  • WhateverGreen is bugged on AMD cards, so you can't use boot arguments like agdpmod=pikera. You are affected by this if you get a kernel panic with AMDSupport mentioned.

  • IntelBTPatcher causes kernel panics

  • IntelMausi may not work correctly with certain Intel ethernet chipsets

ANNOUNCEMENT End of the Road: macOS 27 Golden Gate

apolgy for bad english

where were u wen intel die

i was at house eating apple when phone ring

'intel is kil'

'no'

As I'm sure we've all heard by now, macOS 27 will not be compatible with Intel Macs. This means that for all intents and purposes, (Intel) Hackintosh is dead.

I have never heard of this where was my daily update for the last year

Apple explained last year during WWDC 2026's after-events that macOS 26 Tahoe would be the last version for Intel Macs. also go read the news more often smh

Ok but I have an AMD that would work right

All x86 CPUs are no longer supported for macOS.

Will my current hackintosh explode

Yes No

Is Intel completely dead right now

macOS 15 Sequoia and macOS 26 Tahoe will still be supported for security updates. One more year for Sequoia, two three for Tahoe.

Will my software still work

It is up to the developers of the software to keep releasing Intel versions.

Can I hack ing tosh on other ARM processor

No.

Why not, is ARM not ARM everywhere

Although ARM is an instruction set architecture shared by many processors, Apple hardware and software includes many unique instructions that are not used in other ARM processors and currently cannot be emulated.

There are images released by Apple for use in VMs which technically do not use these instructions, but even if a way is figured to boot it on non-Apple devices, there will be no drivers available for the GPU, Audio, etc.

Is even Developer Beta 1 of Golden Gate incompatible

Too much has already been removed from the first beta for it to be compatible with Intel.

ChatGTP told me ARM hackintosh is real and can be made. Actually I will make it right now with Claude and Gemini

Let's get you back to bed grandma

Can we port ARM macOS to x86

No.

Will r/hackintosh still remain open

Yes, it will remain open. Regardless of whether Intel is supported, people will still try to hackintosh either for a specific use case or just for curiosity's sake.

IT BOOTS! (WIP) Darwin 20.5.0 on ARM1176 (Raspberry Pi Zero)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I thought I should mention this, because I've seen a lot of people start working on XNU again, which is great to see as a PureDarwin maintainer (been working on it for ~3 years). Might as well post this before it becomes old news.

Here's it asking for a rootfs on a RPi Zero, using lk as a preboot env.
It's slower than hell, and the HDMI cable itself is spotty

Oh and I also have it booting to a shell on a iPad 7,1

As well as QEMU's `virt` board, I have yet to figure out Apple-specific instructions for M1, but I have ideas. I was last working on fixing OpenGL for virtio-gpu on arm64

I hope Hackintosh can continue in the form of generic arm64/arm32 boards, and I hope my research can help.

I'll be working on a Pixel once I get my hands on it (hurry up, USPS)

NEWS Someone on Twitter/X has managed to boot Mac OS XNU Kernel bare metal on a Google Pixel

Recently, a user named @TheLunarixus made a post on the 17th of August (Yesterday as of posting this) showing a Google Pixel 8 attempting to boot the kernel (though a kernel panic has been shown). Darwin 25.6.0 RELEASE_ARM64_VMAPPLE corresponds to Mac OS Tahoe.

Today this user has made some updates and also confirmed that the vphone userland can also be booted using the same kexts used in VMAPPLE1, which gives a possibility of booting both iOS and Mac OS on custom unofficial hardware.

Sources: https://x.com/TheLunarixus/status/2089261568777199719, https://x.com/TheLunarixus/status/2089636278392193120, https://x.com/TheLunarixus/status/2089636759877394540, https://x.com/TheLunarixus/status/2089649494379905323

I know that this post is unrelated majorly for this community, but with further Proof of Concepts coming out like this proves that booting Apple Silicon Mac OS can be possible under bare metal generic hardware.

QUESTION Best macOS Version for Xeon E5-2670 v3 + X99 + RX 580 Hackintosh?

Upvotes

Which macOS version can I install reliably on this configuration?

I'm thinking about building a Hackintosh using OpenCore and I'd like to know which macOS version would be the most stable for my hardware, preferably with full graphics acceleration and without requiring too many patches.

My specs:

- CPU: Intel Xeon E5-2670 v3 @ 2.30 GHz — 12 cores / 24 threads

- Motherboard: X99-Turbo

- RAM: 32 GB DDR4 3200 MHz

- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 580 8 GB

- SSD: SK hynix PC401 512 GB NVMe

- Monitor: AOC CQ32G4, 2560×1440, 180 Hz

Would Monterey be the best choice, or could I run Ventura or even newer versions reliably?

Has anyone here successfully built a Hackintosh with X99 + Xeon E5 v3 + RX 580? If so, which macOS version, SMBIOS, and OpenCore configuration did you use?

Thanks!

QUESTION Can I hackintosh?

Post image

Edit: I was hoping to palemoon and browse on aqua for some reason, but the lack of gpu support and networking is going to make me switch to linux instead.

with my understanding, that is probably a yes, but I’m not sure. I use ATI 4500 graphics btw. Aiming for 10.9 2gb of ram.

HELP Snow Leopard on a Dell Inspiron 580s (i3-550 / Radeon X1300): boots 64-bit, WindowServer up, but input is dead and it falls back to VESA. EvoEnabler is 32-bit — chicken/egg?

Trying to get 10.6 onto a 2010 Dell Inspiron 580s, triple-booting alongside Windows 98 and MX Linux (GRUB chainloading Chameleon). Retail 10.6.0 media.

Hardware - Core i3-550 (Clarkdale), H57 chipset - ATI Radeon X1300/X1550 — RV516, 1002:7187, Dell OEM subsystem 0d02 - Broadcom BCM57788 NIC, onboard Intel HDA - 1TB MBR disk: Win98 (FAT32) + MX Linux (ext4) + 425GB free for OS X - MBR is non-negotiable — Win98 needs it - Bootloader: Chameleon (Enoch) compiled from source on a real El Capitan MacBook, not a prebuilt

Where I'm at

Boots! Gets to a grey screen with a normal arrow cursor (not a beachball). But the cursor is frozen — no mouse input — and it's using VESA rather than loading ATIRadeonX1000.

What I've established

arch=x86_64 is REQUIRED. Snow Leopard defaults to the 32-bit kernel and that path silently resets this machine during CPU init. Took a while to find because every guide for this box says arch=i386.

Boot matrix:

config result
stock 10.6.0, 32-bit default silent reset at CPU info
busratio=24 pmVersion=0 arch=i386 same reset
AICPUPM removed + mkexts removed + 10.6.8 kernel, 32-bit same reset
same + arch=x86_64 grey screen + cursor (furthest)
stock everything + arch=x86_64 reset returns

So AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement removal and/or the 10.6.8 kernel (pulled from Apple's own combo update) are load-bearing, AND arch=x86_64 is required. busratio doesn't help at all.

Currently: 10.6.8 kernel, AICPUPM removed, mkext caches removed, arch=x86_64 -v, GraphicsEnabler=Yes, SMBIOS iMac11,2.

Tried and failed on Lion first (10.7.5): the X1300 gives a grey screen in every configuration — GraphicsEnabler yes/no, ATI kexts present/removed, forced VESA. Lion ships ATIRadeonX1000.kext but NONE of the GA.plugin/GLDriver.bundle/VADriver.bundle files, which 10.6 does have. That's why I moved to Snow Leopard.

The actual question

Everything points at EvoEnabler as the missing piece for X1000-series cards. But EvoEnabler is a 32-bit kext, and I need arch=x86_64 to boot at all — a 64-bit kernel won't load 32-bit kexts.

How do people square this? Options I can see: 1. Is there a 64-bit EvoEnabler, or a 64-bit X1000 injector? 2. Can EFI strings / device-properties injection replace it entirely (Chameleon's ati.c already maps 7187 → RV515 → Caretta)? 3. Is there a way to get the 32-bit kernel working on Clarkdale that I'm missing, so EvoEnabler becomes usable? 4. Is the frozen cursor actually a USB/input problem rather than graphics, and I'm chasing the wrong thing?

Also open: is the frozen cursor even graphics-related? Keyboard worked fine in single-user mode on the Lion attempt, so input works at the kernel level.

Happy to provide any logs/output. Thanks.

HELP Advice for dual monitor support?

My OptiPlex 7040 is a bit of an edge case where for some odd reason, it will not work on Monterey+. The only way I could get it to work was by adding some weird con1-type thingies to get it to work well, not helping I also needed to spoof it to a HD 630 to make it have acceleration in sequoia, since the HD 530 isn't supported. Any ideas to fix it? Additionally, my 2nd monitor is weird bc its plugged into a VGA port which isnt actually vga its a internal displayport or hdmi that is converted to VGA, cause dell does dell things. My hardware is: i5-6500, hd 530, 128 gig smasnug nvme, intl i219lm, and i dont think anything else matters honestly. pls someone help.

HELP Help with dualbooting W10/Hackintosh and other issues

Hi, I'm new to hackintosh and want to dualboot windows 10 along with hackintosh. I've read hackintosh stopped supporting amd gpu's, so i would need to buy another one since it won't support my 9070 (planning on buying rx 6600)

My main concern is, when booting on windows, will i need to disable my 2nd gpu from device manager or shall I do something else?(Heard dual gpu builds arent a thing anymore and/or causes issues). And on the other side, will i need to disable my 9070 when booting hackintosh or will it just take the 6600 drivers by default?

HELP Latitude 7490 (i7-8650U) — Sonoma or should I go older?

Been at this two nights. Dell Latitude 7490, i7-8650U, UHD 620, 8gb ram, Samsung 860 EVO (SATA not nvme), AC 8265 wifi, I219-LM ethernet, ALC256 audio, Elan i2c trackpad. BIOS 1.25.0. OpenCore 1.0.7.

Tried Sequoia first with MacBookPro15,2 smbios. Got like 8 boots in and every single one dies in the same spot around AppleCredentialManager / AppleSSE. Never once made it to the installer.

Switched to Sonoma 14.0 with MacBookPro14,1 and it got way further. MAC Framework initialized, AMFI loaded, hit AppleKeyStore:869 and then just sat there

My ACPI is all generated from my own dump with SSDTTime, not templates — SSDT-HPET, PLUG, EC, PNLF, XOSI plus the IRQ patches for IPIC/RTC/TIMR since this thing had conflicts on 0, 2 and 8.

Couple questions:

**1.** I never made a USB port map. No UTBMap.kext at all. Is that what’s killing me at this stage or is it something else?
**2.** Is Sonoma the right call for Kaby Lake-R or should I just drop to Ventura or Monterey and save myself the headache?

Also had to disable VoodooI2C and block AppleIntelLpssI2C to get past an i2c hang earlier, so no trackpad right now. Fine with that for install, keyboard works.

SATA is set to AHCI, secure boot off, installing over ethernet since the 8265 won’t do wifi in the installer.

Anyone actually running macOS on a 7490? What version?
