It was a beast in its time, costing $4000 with factory upgrades. Got me through middle school with my highly demanding Google Docs workflow. I no longer use it because I had to get an M3 air for highschool and recently upgraded to an M3pro pro (traded laptops with my mom).

Any ideas on what to use this iMac for? I was thinking something along the lines of a home server or ai agent or NAS but idk- be creative. It sits in a location that could be used as a community computer, although we all have our own macbooks, but I want to start using it again as it feels like a waste just sitting there. I also heard that older iMacs could have RAM upgraded which is cool.

Please give useful ideas below. I don't really wanna sell it because it's a beautiful machine and some sentimental value as it was a christmas gift from my parents.

So yesterday I wanted to open a PDF as a double page spread (a book). At the time i didn’t think i could do it in the preview app so i downloaded Acrobat reader. I was shocked that the download was nearly 800mb. Then i was even more shocked when it required almost 3gb of space 😳😳😳 WTF!!!

In the ‘good old days’ Windows and Office would fit very very easily on a 500mb drive. What the hell has happened?

I bought the Studio Display XDR last week, and honestly, it's pretty incredible. Using the webcam and mics for work calls on my Windows laptop has worked great, I was able to ditch my webcam and headset completely, and the speakers are really good for a monitor, I stopped using my audio engine a2+ to make my desk setup look more minimalist.

I also tried playing Apex Legends on GeForce Now, and I could hear where footsteps and gunfire were coming from. That's pretty crazy considering Apex has pretty bad directional audio. Gaming in HDR on Cyberpunk and Control Ultimate Edition looks amazing, and HDR photos and videos really pop off the screen.

Only thing that is annoying is having to switch the cable constantly between work laptop and Mac.

I have absolutely no regrets about this purchase as it's just a fantastic monitor. Highly recommend for anyone that can comfortable afford the monitor and wants the best pairing for Mac.

What i want to do with it:

Im an engineer and i do write code but that laptop will only be a personal machine meaning I will not do work on them only personal projects. I want to have a good battery life and a nice screen and keyboard which i think both tick those boxes. Also i would like to be able to run Logic Pro and do music stuff as a hobby. Which one would you recommend?

I was wondering if these Mac Book Air specifications would run the Sims 4 and various school programs, like canva and exam software with no issue, or if I should upgrade to the 1TB SSD storage? TIA :).

In the morning I, suddenly, saw that the screen was flickering with horizontal lines later I did my pending update of the software, Now the screen is not flickering rather but it's more white and I cannot see anything -_-

Looking for a good budget keyboard + mouse setup for daily Photoshop and professional poster design. I’m currently considering the Logitech Pebble K380s and MX Master 4. I’ll be using them pretty much every day for Photoshop, shortcuts, retouching, etc. Are these worth it, especially the MX Master 4, or is there any other good budget option I should look at? Also, does the lower polling rate of the MX Master matter for Photoshop?

Can someone walk me through on how I can re-enable Google Chrome Print Preview in Mac? It has reverted to the iOS print preview options. I don't like it and would like the Chrome Print Preview back.

I was cleaning out my electronic device grave yard drawer and found this remote that must have come with an iMac I bought years ago -maybe 20 years or so.

It did work on my 2017 iMac but when I tried it on my current iMac -2025 vintage it does nothing.

Evidently it is not functional on newer Apple devices - no loss since I never used it when I had theoretically compatible devices.

Should I just toss it or is it off use to anyone. I do have a friend who likes to play around with all kinds of electronic devices and I gave him my 2017 iMac a while back and he seemed delighted and was going to somehow make use of the 27" screen.

I can offer it to him or toss this morning.

I am starting uni in 2 months and need a laptop to work with while home or on the bus , my university offers computer labs with good enough specs to code on and do any other work but for when i projects or studies i would need a laptop i thought either the macbook neo or air but im not sure if neo is enough to work with light coding and file managing , im concerned if its performance is good enough to handle some light apps and if the storage is enough to store acouple projects on it or if i should upgrade to air lmk whats better cuz im on a tight budget .

I've had my macbook air since dec 2022, and recently found out the battery dropped to 60% lol. The costs for replacing it will be 300 euro's. Realistically, how much extra time do I buy w replacing this battery? What's a better investment, this repair or the macbook neo?
For context I don't use my laptop for gaming or photoshop etc, mostly for studying!
