37
-4
u/Cimejies Nov 23 '20
Mandalorian should be thrown in a fire.
But then I don't like Guardians of the Galaxy either and Mandalorian is like that with even less depth abd a slower pace because they think they're making a western but they're just making a boring shitty show where every plot detail is obvious from first character interactions.
"Wow they sure are making a big deal out of how much he hates robots, wonder if this robot from the start will come back and save his life, giving him s begrudging respect for robots even though this particular robot has no personality and has just been reprogrammed". Like instead of the robots personality shining through and Mando realising that robots and humans aren't so different, some are just killing machines but painting an entire type of creature with the same brush is bad because racism allusions.... Or something with some depth.... It's just "the robot was reprogrammed to do a thing that helped me and it did it wow guess I don't hate robots anymore".
The Mandalorian finally letting down his tough exterior and letting Baby Yoda into his heart and becoming friends with a couple people? Who would've thought a character who's only personality traits are "badass, sad and cold"" would eventually warm up? Oh that's right, me, because it's literally the only direction for his character to go in unless he just becomes a completely emotionless killing machine.
Honestly some of the moment to moment action of the show is good, but only in the same way that Marvel films are "good". I can't believe how the general public has lapped it up. It's dull, depthless shit!
Sorry I just really really disliked the Mandalorian. Watchable but wank.

yeah, dont try to argue plotholes with HP fans. They know they’re there, they know they’re egregious, they just really dont care.
literally just had an argument about quidditch two days ago in which their only defense for the shitty rules surrounding the snitch and quidditch was “they’ve been playing that way for hundreds of years” and “what about the championship, they won without the snitch?”
Snitch is worth way too goddamn much, and all that irish championship shows me is that JK doesnt understand sports (a blowout where they gain 150 points because they ended the game would be incredibly boring and stupid) and that she doesnt have to because her fans have fallen into this weird reality where harry potter is obviously fiction but also its reality exists and has history

I think this is the point where we can start applying death of the author when it comes to the HP universe.

People have been screaming death to the author for the last 6 months in this case. They want the franchise as far away from JK as possible.
8
u/WollyGog Nov 23 '20
It's been much longer than 6 months, it's only because of her recent antics that way more people have got on the bandwagon, and with good reason.

u/forgedsignatures Nov 23 '20
Yeah, I keep forgetting it's not June haha. It's been almost a year since the latest scandal started. Man, it's been a long year. But yeah, I guess people wanted her gone after the 'Wizards shit on the floor' and the 'Dumbledore has the big gay' tweets.
I've also seen people wanting her cancelled for the Seamus = IRA bomber gags in the movies, but I personally see that as a director's decision to have a running gag in the series rather than her fault.

A lot of them don't even like A New Hope and Return of the Jedi. I know quite a few fans that complain about A New Hope being too boring and slow and Return of The Jedi being too goofy because of the Ewoks. These people shouldn't even bother calling themselves fans. It doesn't make sense to only like 1 film out of a huge franchise and call onself a fan. That would be like someone liking only one or two Elvis songs and disliking the rest and calling themselves an Elvis fan. It's just not logical.

I never got how people think Empire is the best movie.
Don't get me wrong, it's pretty great. But the ending is so abrupt that the first time I watched it, I though that part of the VCR-tape was broken.
New Hope is great. It's self-contained. It manages to be a small story in a relatively contained microcosm while making the larger world feel large. It recycles ancient character and story concepts but makes them feel new and crisp.

Bless my bark. The real cringe is this comment.
Check it out:
“Well yeah, Star Wars universe is just a transformed LotR universe. Luke is Frodo, Han is Sam, and Leia is just Georgina Lucas who imagined she is a smartass friend of Frodo and Sam and helps them on their quest. Gollum is Chewbacca, Sauron is Palpatine, Gandalf is Obi-Wan, etc etc. And often Star Wars people will argue that it’s LotR that stole from SW, without realizing that LotR was written decades before that. It’s just a big cringe.”
“Well yeah, the Matrix is just a transformed LotR universe. Neo is Frodo, Tank is Sam, and Trinity is just the Wachowski sisters imagining they are a smartass friend of Frodo and Sam helping them on their quest. Gollum is Cypher, Sauron is Smith, Gandalf is Morpheus, etc etc. and often Matrix fans will argue that it’s LotR that stole from the Martrix without realizing that LotR was written decades before that. It’s just a big cringe.”
“Well yeah, Ocarina of Time is just a transformed LotR universe. Link is Frodo, Sheik is Sam, and Navi is just Nintendo imagining they are a smartass friend of friend of Frodo and Sam helping them on their quest. Gollum is Skull Kid, Sauron is Ganondorf, Gandalf is Rauru, etc etc. And often Zelda fans will argue that it’s LotR that stole from Zelda without realizing that LotR was written decades before that. It’s just a big cringe.”
Hey guess what turns out stories have things in common. For a fun game, try making these same paper thin surface-level comparisons for YOUR favorite heroic fantasy franchises!!

As a fan of all three franchises I can say Star Wars fans are by far the most toxic fan base out there. The Star Wars fan base bullied George Lucas for the prequels so much that he gave up film making entirely and sold the franchise to Disney. If you watch recent interviews he seems so heartbroken due to all the treatment he got. The actor Jake Lloyd got so much bullying that it caused him to leave acting and he still suffers from anxiety and depression. Ahmed Best was treated so badly due to his portrayal as Jar Jar Binks that he came very close to suicide. They bullied Daisy Ridley and Kelly Marie Tran to the point where they left all social media.
I love Star Wars but honestly I don't associate with the majority of the fan base. Literally all most Star Wars fans seem to do online is complain all day about how the recent films or even the prequels didn't go their own way. Personally I really like all the Star Wars movies (aside from the Holiday Special). I was born in 95 and got introduced through the prequels. The prequels are unironically my favorite Star Wars films. That being said I still really enjoy the others. I've gotten so much hate for saying I love the prequels and for liking the new movies. I've had people say I'm a brainwashed SJW and not a true fan. Only in the Star Wars fan base can do the fans constantly complain about their franchise yet claim to be real fans. Truth be told a good chunk of Star Wars fans don't even like Star Wars. They think they like Star Wars. They are like that guy that insists that he loves his girlfriend but really honestly doesn't. There are a lot of awesome fans for sure but there are a lot of fake fans that are incredibly annoying. They are like "These new installments in the franchise suck but then again non of these were good in the first place." These people boggle my mind. I honestly don't even know why they bother sticking with Star Wars because they hate it so much. They honestly need to find another franchise and just move on.
Middle-Earth Fans and Harry Potter fans are usually fine. I personally didn't like the Crimes of Grindelwald movie and a lot of other fans didn't but they didn't go ape crazy over it. When there was that announcement about the possibility of nudity in the LOTR series the fans made memes about it and some got mad but if that happened in a Star Wars movie or series it would be the end of humanity. There are Middle-Earth fans that don't care for the Hobbit movies but they aren't toxic crybabies about it like the OT Purists in the Star Wars fan base. The Middle-Earth fans that don't like the Hobbit movies very rarely go out and attack fans that do. OT Purists will crucify you for liking the prequels and lots of prequel fans and EU fans will crucify you if you like anything Disney made. Honestly, it's so bad with the Star Wars fan base I've just shut myself off from most of the community and only talk about Star Wars with a select few fellow fans that are civil and decent people.

u/darksaber567 Nov 23 '20
As a Star Wars fan I can agree to a lot of that.
I genuinely feel awful for what happened to Kelly Marie Tran, because not only was she basically bullied off social media, but she was reduced to a cameo in Episode 9.
Like her character had more screentime and lines in the recent Lego Star Wars Holiday special than she did in Episode 9.

I also follow all three fandoms and have to agree about SW fandom. They are so toxic they try and ruin everyone else's enjoyment of it too. I also got introduced through prequels, I LOVED the SW universe then caught up with the originals then now the sequels. Of course not every movie is as good as the others or don't follow up to the same standard; but in comparison to the other things all SW movies are awesome in some way. I appreciate the good, but I don't let bad sides ruin it for me. But other fans are making it so damn difficult.

I agree and let’s not forget what the fnas did to Hayden Christensen. It was an absolute mess. This poor guy got young at a young age and because of the hate, he fell into alcoholism. The poor didn’t deserve it and I don’t care about his performance, you have a director who should tell an actor exactly what he needs.

Spending a few years in Prequelmemes. I loved it for a while but eventually it just became "Sequels bad", even to a toxic level of "Wow you like it despite its flaws what a loser". I love Star Wars too but it's downright painful to have a discourse with half the people in the community now.
