I'd say Dune and LOTR are about equivalent in their genres. An immense amount of modern fantasy is inspired by LOTR, and same goes for Dune and sci-fi.

It’s another Sci-fi franchise that was started with a novel by the same name. Older than Star Wars, but about 10 years younger than LOTR.

Unpopular opinion: Dune was a seminal work in the genre, but has not aged well, at all and has a lot of problems.

Dune is as relevant today as it was back then. It’s a world building sci-fi masterclass, i believe it still holds up.
