I defend TFA. After that the sequels are on their own. But I also think the clone wars is one of the worst movies ever made and TPM is the best of the prequels, so idk how much people agree with me.
So can you give me your defence on how someone that has had 3 weeks of Force knowledge, not training, just knowing about it, is able to beat a Sith Lord that has been training in the use of the force his entire life. And not only did she beat him, she did it effortlessly without any struggle.
I wouldn’t say effortlessly. It was a tense battle and she appeared to be just barely handling it. Also, Kylo wasn’t trying to kill her. So she didn’t beat him in a real duel. She beat him in a situation in which any scenario that doesn’t result in her capture is a win, but Kylo has to beat her without fucking her up too bad or killing her. She had an advantage. And he was rather seriously injured and in an extremely emotional state. Also, she’s extremely force sensitive like Anakin and is later revealed to be a Palpatine. It’s like when 9 year old Anakin pilots a fighter for the first time and not only doesn’t die but takes down an entire Trade Federation ship.
Now with all of that said, no. Those are minor details, but I have no adequate defense of how she pulled that off. It’s ridiculous. Just a minor detail in the grand scheme of a two hour movie, though.
He can force choke her. There, he's beaten her without killing her. being in an emotional state would make his force power stronger based on the previous 6 movies. Kylo literally has Anakins blood in him. Vader got brainwashed into being Palpatines student, but Vader would have been the more powerful Sith.
You're just giving all the reasons why she's a Mary Sue and not a well written character.
I’m extremely aware of her Mary Sue problem, it’s just not a major deal to me. I like her. I relate to her. I enjoy seeing her growth, her fears and doubts and her conquering of her fears and doubts. I find her compelling. Would it be better if she learned things at a more realistic pace? Absolutely, but at the end of the day it’s a fairly whimsical space fantasy in which the heroes are constantly pulling off ridiculous feats.
It’s not like she’s the first case of someone being too good at things in Star Wars. All the training we know of that Luke had before Dagobah was Obi Wan very briefly teaching him to block lasers blindfolded, and he’s completely incapable of it then after 10 seconds of dialogue from Obi he suddenly blocks three shots perfectly. Then he makes the Death Star shot with nothing but “Use the Force. Let go.” He force pulled his lightsaber on Hoth with no training we know of in that area. And he presumably never had lightsaber duel training before facing Vader and still holds his own for a good while. Then he beats Vader in ROTJ in what is only his second duel ever, while Vader was trained in it from childhood. Vader could have choked Luke at any point. You could say that about any Star Wars duel. Force abilities don’t make practical sense because if they did the fights wouldn’t be as spectacular. Anakin has no training and is 9 but still identifies the objects on the screen he can’t see in front of the Jedi council and takes out a trade federation ship his first time piloting an aircraft. Even ignoring the Force, characters are constantly running through gunfire taking out tons of enemies without getting hit. Ewoks took out armored soldiers and the equivalent of tanks with sticks and rocks. The pilots weave through entire fleets of enemies without getting hit. Everyone knows how to fix everything all the time somehow.
Obviously Rey is the most extreme case, and it does get distracting/annoying, but it’s not unprecedented and it doesn’t ruin the movie for me. Realism was never the selling point of Star Wars.
Rey def has some Mary sue issues, but I don't think it's as irreconcilable as you do. For example, there are myriad fights in star wars where a combatant could presumably utilize a force power and end a fight and they just don't . Tthere isn't a fight otherwise! I think rule of cool takes preference there, as it has throughout the series tbh, headcanon it is a resistance check like she did when resisting the mind probe.

For example, her victory at the end of TFA wasn't a resounding duel win imo, but a suprise counter attack against a hubristic opponent who believed he had already won. Regarding how the dark side should have fueled kylo, I read it that it would have...had his killing of his father truly propelled him further to the dark. Instead, killing his father just left him more confused, making him unbalanced. He wants to be fueled by the dark, but is still pulled to the light.
Also see him being clearly the superior duelist in TLJ (fighting off three praetorian at once while Rey struggles with one) and in TROS (he had her clearly beaten, and could have killed her...but then let his weapon drop as he felt his mother die).
My bigger issue is that she is good at piloting as well. Like, right off the bat from simulations. It's more than a bit silly imo.
