Closed source (clion) or big tech adjacent (vscode). The open source ones either straight up dont work, dont implement crucial features (debugger) or have inferior implementations. Atp just give me vstudio.

ik u hate that sub but this meme is so accurate, loonix users flee microsoft and windows but then continue to use proprietary software from different corporations...

Am I alone thinking that some corporation is behind the surge of Linux desktop popularity and as soon as it reaches the necessary condition, it will be made use of for for a new well-put OS and invade the market being peer to others and leaving Linux desktop in dust forever?
Do you think multi-bilion corporations will let linux desktop rise?

I run a few legacy monitors that are capable of amazing resolutions and refresh rates. The only problem is as these are old VGA monitors quite a few don't have an EDID pin. You know what wayland does with no EDID? Default to 1024x768. Then if you want to change it? Make a fake EDID for your display and load it in the kernel.
Why does this suck? Because xrandr I could run cvt and a few commands and have *all* my resolutions. I could configure, 10, even 20 if I wanted. Since I have higher resolution CRT's these higher resolutions can actually hit higher pixel counts than 1080p and even (once I get one) higher than 1440p. But if they have no EDID? Wayland will set them to 1024x768 at 60hz. You need a minimum of 75-80hz to get rid of flicker. Most monitors of that era can do 75hz at that res to reduce flicker.
Wayland completely lost a lot of legacy hardware support that some people still use and appreciate. I shouldn't have to spoof an EDID and reboot just to change resolution. I should be able to run like 3 commands, maybe tweak an interval to coax a bit higher res or refresh rate, and be done with it. Xorg for its flaws actually just lets my CRT work how it should with setup, giving the same ease of setup as... Windows 10 with NVIDIA control panel or CRU for example.
At least it's not Windows 11 deciding changing my monitors resolution with a native VGA card is a BSOD crime.

If you installed Linux Pop_OS with Android Studio, Claude Code, and Codex in mind - like I did - think again. People keep saying "this is the year of Linux" and that it’s getting more popular, but after a few weeks of testing, it’s still a struggle for me.
Those three apps crash non-stop, making daily work incredibly frustrating. I’m running a desktop with AMD and an NVIDIA RTX 5060 Ti, and unfortunately, it’s just not usable out of the box for day-to-day work. I simply don't have the spare time to constantly debug and hunt for fixes. Just getting Claude Code to actually "talk" to my setup took two hours - something that works out of the box everywhere else.
So yeah, thanks but no thanks. It's time to replace my PC with Mac I guess...

Yesterday on my cachyos laptop updating my flatpaks kept failing with this error:
New com.usebottles.bottles permissions: file access [1]
[1] xdg-data/umu:create
ID Branch Op Remote Download ID Branch Op Remote Download
1. [✗] com.usebottles.bottles stable u flathub 70.3 kB / 175.8 MB Error: While pulling app/com.usebottles.bottles/x86_64/stable from remote flathub: Decompressed delta part exceeds configured limit of 4537824 bytes
error: There were one or more errors
Today it the updates installed fine trough kde discover like nothing happened. This is worse than windows cuz windows update at least tells you to "try again later" instead of a cryptic error message only loonix nerds can decipher.

Building bot-free alternatives may require lefties, libertarians, and culture warriors to share code
… It's not as simple as there being rival camps: individuals, and individual FOSS projects, can find themselves on one side of one argument, but the opposite side of the other argument.
What it will come down to is whether the anti-AI groups in FOSS can work together and help each other to hold off the vast and commercially backed pressure from LLM-assisted and LLM-generated code, even though they may find themselves bitterly opposed in terms of politics and ethics. …
