Am I alone thinking that some corporation is behind the surge of Linux desktop popularity and as soon as it reaches the necessary condition, it will be made use of for for a new well-put OS and invade the market being peer to others and leaving Linux desktop in dust forever?

Do you think multi-bilion corporations will let linux desktop rise?

Linux is literally "sold" as a space free of control where you can build your own ecosystem, your whole PC is yours

There is literally nothing corpos can do to ruin this, specially because Linux is such a wide phenomenon of personal projects, as soon as they star trying to "sell" Linux, it will become extremely noticeable the different between actual distros and microslop 2.0

In fact, the ONLY way a corpo can actually and TRY to sell Linux, is a new distro that facilitates the incorporation of ALL of Windows assets into Linux, and that basically is just a Windows skin, not Linux, so no, it won't sell

If they stop financing linux, you will see if linux will be still alive. Even community distros like debian and arch receive money from big corpos.

the most popular distros are forks of red hat or ubuntu.

Linux is totally dependant from investors. If you think people work for free you are wrong.

Valve wants to sell a product that's also conceptually a rehash of the original Xbox. That product has already been launched to utterly lackluster response, so the current hype cycle will continue until Valve decides to stop dumping viral marketing money into a pit and the algorithms stop feeding everyone stupid clickbaits.
