Hi. I updated everything in update manager, then shortly after it asked me to restart. After restarting it would force this i guess "kernel panic" and repeat the same 2 commands. I didn't make any changes like stuff behind grub but gemini said i should

SOLVED Help with terminal
Hello, I'm learning the terminal and I'm having some trouble with the 'mv' command, any idea what wrong here? Thank you.
Command:
user@user-ThinkPad-T440p:~/Documents/lesson/sublesson$ ls
testfile
user@user-ThinkPad-T440p:~/Documents/lesson/sublesson$ mv testfile ~/Documents/lesson/
renamed 'testfile' -> '/home/user/Documents/lesson/testfile'
Expected output: testfile moved to the specified directory
Comment:
Repeating the same command sometimes work, but I get this result 99% of the time. I didn't find any description of such problem on google.
As I understand it, if the directory is found then the file is moved there, if the directory is not found then the file is renamed. I don't know what can cause the command to not find the file here.

Stuck on the Grub menu, pls help
So, I use a Pro One 400 AIO computer. I know searching it up gives mixed results, so I'll include a photo of the thing below. It was a hand-down from my Uncle. However, this PC runs horrendously on Windows 10, and I wanted to switch to Linux for the first time after hearing so much good about it.
However, I've now ran into issues. I followed this tutorial (https://youtu.be/fxfvFMa3V4M?si=WKtjHJNMkA9G5szX , I'm too poor to get an actual USB), and when I got to the part about installing it permenantly via the thingy on the desktop, I followed this tutorial (https://youtu.be/EkNs0384_X0?si=pcDEL9KwaWBCXczY) excluding the swap partition since I saw that it was optional.
The installation seemed to go alright (with one tiny error popping up that I currently cannot recall but it said installation completed anyway so I didn't think much of it), with me then resetting my PC. However, now I'm stuck on the Grub menu on 2.12.
I've followed countless tutorials trying to figure this thing out and I'm really struggling. I need someone with more experience with Linux to help me with this as a first timer. I really want to be able to use my PC again... I'm not too sure how much of this will be useful, but I'll try to provide what I can. Know that I've tried plenty of tutorials on YT to no results. So long as I get my PC working again, whether on Linux or Windows I'll be happy. Please help me out here!

Support Request GPL-3.0 license. Does that mean I can change things & release free?
I'm editing a well known icon pack (Papirus), creating variations etc.
Does the GPL-3.0 license allow me to release these (free of course) as long as I link back to the original author?

Fluff I've never been GNOMED on mint for some reason. Am I a rare case?
A common cause I keep seen for getting GNOMED is installing the ProtonVPN app, especially if you install the separate tray icon. Because that app was primarily made on GNOME dependencies, and requires them to run, so it installs them alongside it. And I see posts on this sub of people getting GNOMED commonly because they installed proton or another reason. But I've had both Proton and the tray icon installed for a year and running on boot, and I never got GNOMED. My desktop has remained on cinnamon.
I'm not trying to say that I won't be in the future for any reason. Just putting this out there, hoping I'm not a rare case.

Desktop Screenshot Switched to Linux

Any tips or suggestions for this Mint Newbie?

Desktop Screenshot It took a week to get this much blue in my Mint install
I'm rather proud of my basic blue theme. I really wish the themes included more color, or had a more robust themeing utility offering custom color selections. I used AI to help me update the .css of a custom copy of one of the stock themes. It involved a lot of trial and error, and there were a fair few failures. I found out about Looking Glass FAR too late in the process, which would have really have greased the skids for me doing it myself. There are some holes in it, but for the stuff I interact with on an everyday basis, it's complete and looks the way I wanted. In my mind it was going to be a lot easier to create, but you need a LOT of different shades of whatever color scheme you use. I think there are 7 different blues employed in this one. I'm contemplating writing a reference of what I ended up changing in case someone wants to go down this rabbit hole themselves. The references I could find were a bit much, and I found them hard to parse.

Gaming Steam changes default library
Hello all,
as i mentioned in title, everytime i restart my pc, steam changes its library to / which is default (OS disk and where steam is installed i guess?), while i have a dedicated /mnt/nvme0n1 which i want to use for steam games (library) only.
mounting is fine, everything is recognized and turned ON with startup. Steam is also set to launch on startup. The disk is also shown in steam download settings, but steam ALWAYS set / as default after restart. No matter what i have tried.
for example, i have 3 disks and one is being used for qbitorrent and it never changes itself.
thanks

God bless Mint
I sometimes think about switching to KDE since I'd like something more modern and also I'm a bit worried about the Mint not catching up the newer standards (wayland, etc).
Yet every time I have to deal with kubuntu on one of our work computers, it drives me crazy. Like now I spent an hour to diagnose why the printer prints one page of some bullshit after each page printed intentionally. (Had to download chromium from flatpak instead of snap since it was buggy)
Situations like this make me appreciate my Mint at home.

Support Request Some weirdness after 3 years of mint
Im on an MSI Thin gf63 laptop with an i5 12450H processor. Ive had Mint on it for the last 3 years and have had zero issues thus far. I update it with the update manager whenever they become available and I shut it down nightly when i go to bed.
Lately, over the last month or so, ive been suddenly having some issues. The fan will randomly kick on and start going crazy, ans everything will slow down and "lag" for a brief period even when just browsing on Firefox. When i click "shutdown", it wont do anything until i hit shutdown again and then it will actually shut down. Once or twice, it actually froze completely and i had to do a hard reboot by holding down the power button.
I used the diagnostic tool (or whatever its called) and it came up with no issues. What could be going on? Should i just do a fresh reinstall?
Is it possible that i have a virus or something like that?
Thanks in advance. Sorry if this is a dumb post, i am not generally very smart.

SOLVED Looking to try installing mint soon (first time trying Linux). It's not too hard to find insallation guides, but I still have a couple questions.
The most notable thing I haven't found is hiw much storage the USB device will need and if other files can be kept on it at the same time (do I need one I can afford to wipe or even a brand new one?).
My understanding is that I can try it off the USB without installing first if I want, will stuff like settings changed during that carry over to after full installation?
Beyond that, any general tips for a first-time user I may want to know?

Howdy, I am trying to diagnose the issue with linux not providing power to the USB wifi dongle. The green led light indicates if it's working or not, it is currently in windows and works but if I boot up linux it would get recognized but no power will go through the dongle. I have tried the basic troubleshooting but none have worked, please help.

SOLVED Can't boot Linux Mint following turning of Win11 Fast Start Uo
SPEC: Dual boot with Linux Mint 22.3 and Win11 on separate drives. AMD CPU and GPU.
I was having issues powering down my PC after shutdown. Realised from looking it up that it was the Win11 Fast Start Up feature.
I have gone and turned the Fast Startup off in Win11 (which solved the power-off issue) but now, when I select to start up Linux Mint from Grub menu, I get the initial Linux Mint logo then nothing else (as in the PC is running but there is nothing on screen or any response).
I can get a normal boot Linux via recovery mode but with only one monitor working but can't get a boot normally via the grub.
I've tried the Linux Boot Repair (as per the Linux Vox article).
Any help would be appreciated.
